Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Been afk for two weeks ( :().
Missed the end of the Witch Head repairs, but I did my bit.
Built a new ship while I was doing those runs, the Anaconda 'Hexenkopf Kurier'.

Since getting back in game, I've worked both mining T-9s very hard, currently at 2.7B.

Next job, complete restock of engineering materials. Done 'Bug Killer' for Encoded, Crystalline Shards for Raws, a bit of HGE scavenging in the Keelback.
Currently in the Python 'Robigo Runner', restarted the Criminal Vacations business, also for a few nice G5 manufactured.

I discovered a neat little planet during my Stellar Unknown travels, it was very small and irregularly shaped, almost like landing on a big asteroid. Had lots of cool mountain ranges so I spent a whole day climbing and jumping off mountains. It was a blast but I killed 2 of my 4 SRVs so I think I'm going to detour to Morgan's Rock after I cruise by waypoint 3. I'm currently between the Eta Carina and Statue Of Liberty nebulae as I decided to check out both while in the area. I'm currently sitting on the lone planet in the Eta Carinae system which turned out to be disappointing. Beside being confused by the location (I thought it was supposed to be located within the Eta Carina nebula but I was probably incorrect) I was sad to see that the Homunculus Nebula which surrounds the system was not included. It's just a B star, an O star and a HMC.

Just banked my first painte, low temp diamonds, and even some void opals. Approx 150M crd, still not feeling safe with a full cargo hold. And run for cover when near 50t units.

So, I have a plan, since I need to get better at combat. The strategy is to go to a nav beacon in any system that has a port with interstellar factors working.
To do Market research on the drinking habits of pirates. The hold has beer, coffee, tea, wine and liquor. There choice of goods if the hatch breaker succeeds.
If they are successful in leaving the nav zone before I get them, all well and good. I have collector limpets to recover what was mine. When they explode.

This was working well, until to my shame I got tag teamed by sidewinders. A sidewinder got away with the beer....was not feeling good about it.
Returned to the dock and put a point defence low on the cutter near the cargo hold. That's still quite sporting of me isn't it...I will run out of PD rounds soon enough.?

Oh the cutter is now all flavor of lasers big and small, for the light show mainly.

Yes Point Defence Turrets run out in seconds.

Roughly one thousand seconds unless engineered for 50% extra ammunition.

Wow, been a while. How is everyone?

Last I checked in, I had just got my Krait II and was beginning to engineer it for jumpiness in preparation for A11X (which didn't require it, but was my self-imposed deadline) and Stellar Unknown. Having that done, I participated in A11X, which was my first expedition. It was awesome and a great primer for SU, now underway, and in which I have participated in my first shenanigans...thankfully at WP1, where the distance to rebuy didn't put me off the pace...

Ahem

Between the two expeditions I took up the engineer grind once again to build a bounty-hunter Vulture so I could take up the Federation grind and unlock Sol, mostly because I came across the Solar System bobbleheads and decided I wanted them, but that I would have them be a souvenir from my visit to the motherland. Also for a change of pace from exploration. So I made a lot of NPC's go boom in Fed bounty/black ops missions, got Competent and made my rank until I unlocked Sol. TBH, the trip was a little underwhelming. I was supremely disappointed in the lack of Great Lakes, having grown up on the shores of one and now living on another, so I couldn't visit my IRL home. My favorite part of the trip was seeing the Valles Marineris lit up at night, all Expanse-like. There was a capital ship at Mars as well, which are always cool. There I learned not to breach the patrol craft's perimeter when they are present. And seeing the Moon was pretty cool, too. What's with Earth's axis? When I was there, North America was in the dark, but it was daytime in South America...?

I took a couple of weeks off from ED prior to the launch of SU, having burnt myself out on the grinding and disappointed with the Sol experience, and picked up Pathfinder: Kingmaker, which by the time the expedition began I was a little loath to step away from again. When last I played it I was stuck at the Stag Lord's fort, but somehow made it through with flying colors this time around and made a lot of progress afterward, claiming two more regions and exploring the whole of the Southern Narlmarches. It really is a great game! But with the launch of SU I was back with gusto, and am thrilled to be in the void with all these excellent and admirable commanders!

So now I'm back in the Krait and making my way to WP2, but staying at the Y value of WP1 (+400-something), so coming across a ton of undiscovered systems, (in which RNGesus has been with me), including my first ELW. It's a long way, though, so I'm going to have to pick up the pace at some point and stop scanning everything I come across. Especially if I want to check out any of the POI's, which I really do.

EDIT: DIdn't know that would paste the link...for those who don't know, I suppose.

No aims today. Flitting around, r2r here, HGE there, planet pootling etc. But I found my mind wandering and thinking about carriers.

I'd imagine they'll be way more than I can afford but I wondered, if I had one, what ships I would carry and what role the carrier would serve. I'd like a hybrid trader-explorer but also the abillity to do a bit of mining here and there plus have a gunship to fend off the nasties. It's all early days and who know how things will pan out, but it's nice to dream a dream every now and then.

ETA I've decided my in-game commander name is, well, a pile of bat guana and I'd rather have it the same as my board handle. Before I ask the galactic powers for a change, who is it I'd contact and do you think this reason for a name change is pretty petty?

Before ED I used to play EVE:Valkyrie, and I kind of missed firing misiles, so I fitted the Mamba with a long range huge beam, and a load of non-engineered seeker misiles. Except for running out of ammo pretty quickly that's is a really fun fighter. Plenty of juice for the laser, and great fireworks. Guess I'm back to engineering then... :)

I guess I'll go for High Capacity, but any advice on Experimental Effects?

Edit: Btw. Check out this 3DS Max rendering of the Mamba:

Just submit a ticket on the Support website - explain that you are asking because you would like your commander name to be the same as your forum name - I hear that they usually do one change without a quibble and like "deeper" reasons for further changes.

Mat collection continues...
Finished at Robigo, EFCs and Bio thingies full.
Nipped over and did some Sothis-Ceos poop runs for old times sake.

Refitted 'Robigo Runner', more Hge chasing in Fed/Imp space.

Now at LHS 3006, grabbed five HGEs (\o/). No sign of this major 'War' that is being reported other than much (poor) trashtalk.

What this game needs is some decent, professional sledging!

Once the mats are done with, I'm considering another Asp Scout build.

I wish the Goids would get their act together.

On the support site it says:
"If you need to change your name for a specific reason please submit a ticket to the Customer Support team with the reason for your request and a short list of your preferred options in your preferred order.

Please be aware that these changes are limited and should only be requested under special circumstances.
Repeated name change requests may result in your existing name being locked in place, with no option to adjust it in the future.

We do not rename CMDRs for clan purposes."

So there ya go. https://support.frontier.co.uk

Market research going well, pirates definitely like beer, liquor, and wine over tea and coffee in Nav beacon areas.
Its's a bit like a shark cruising past a reef waiting for the little fishes to come closer. ( was going to say a drive by shooting...but thought better of it !)

Using engineered beams/lasers with long range and mixture of thermal conduit and scramble experimental effects.

Market research at compromised beacon is a bit more of a statistical challenge. Jumped into one.
A full board of ships , about 15, 2/3 wanted to participate in the survey and started launching hatch breakers, 6 inbound at one time.
They did not complete the questionnaire and a few just walk a away with the samples. Got done to one shield ring and had to boost away to save myself.
I have now raised my combat rating to 41% competent. I can cleanup 4 consecutive expert anaconda's, plus a type -10 for good measure. I like my cutter now.

This was a Type-10....

Long rage weapons, but some time up close is best...eh Terry...

For a couple of weeks at least I’ve been doing some mining. I’ve cracked a few cores but never returned home with more than 4million Cr. Last night I found a new place. Although I only came home with 20 million I finally cracked some cores that held a great yield. Not sure what prompted the change, I wasn’t doing anything different. I’m still unsure how people are rolling home with a billion in the cargo hold. Maybe practice is making me better.

Next week: unarmed, F/A off mining in a HazRES with optional shields.
