Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Crossed from Colonia to Polo Harbour without incident.
Despite neutrino jumping a few times, i suffered very little damage. I've packed a xeno-scanner, on the off chance i run into something, and dumped the MRP in favour of a dinky AFMU backup.
Up,down, south, north,in or out,i'm spoilt for choice.I may even stay here for a while, the star distribution is already noticeably higher.

Strange happenings with the FSS...

My usual HGE hunting method.
1. Drop into system.
2. Scoop and honk.
3. Drop into Nav Beacon, scan.
4. Back to supercruise, immediately check left panel for HGEs.

Yep, no problems, head for HGEs in some kind of logical order. After finishing the last (initially) visible, back to supercruise, back to FSS.

Here's the strange thing. No squiggle on the spectral analysis showing unresolved USS.
But quite often there are.
Second strange thing, no HGEs in the FSS, close and check left panel... and suddenly there's another HGE.

Maybe I'm just not fully understanding.
🤷‍♂️

Hmm. Sometimes, emissions don't initially show but appear as a new signal source after being in the system a while. Is that what you are experiencing?

ETA Those nice folk at FD have changed my CMDR name. (y)

Remember USSs have a shortish life and then others spawn, so they can appear and disappear from our various displays.

That’s the trouble with these kids, they think everything is a race. What is with these ship cosmetics? It’s not a ruddy fashion parade out there. Two years in the army and a sensible haircut, that’s what they need.

I know. I keep expecting some whjppersnapper to pipe up with "I've finished Elite".

And I remember sensible haircuts. Mind you, I also remember hair.

My 2 weeks annual leave are over. Back to work tomorrow. Only 1745 emails to sort through. And I start shift work for the first time in my life at 52 in order to help my daughter with the babysitting of my three grandkids while she starts training for British transport police.
In a more related vein, spent the last week unlocking engineers and working my way toward Expert.
Amazingly, still not getting bored of this lark even though its the only computer game I've played this year.
I usually zone out after a month and move on, but I can't seem to let this one go.
I think I need help....

No sounds like you are doing just fine to me.

Just left Morgan's Rock out at the NGC 6188 Nebula. It was a bit of a detour off the Stellar Unknown path but I really wanted to dock somewhere to get rid of some of this exploration data and I needed some services, from what I understand there's not much opportunity for docking after this unless I head back to the Bubble or ahead to the Core.

Something kind of funny happened before I docked though. I've never used an AFMU before but I outfitted one for this expedition, I figured that since I was headed towards Morgan's Rock I would play with the AFMU and figure out how it worked then I could replenish the ammo when I docked. So I switch over to the right panel and choose to repair my FSD... while I'm in supercruise. In hindsight it makes sense that it would shut the module down to repair it but the thought didn't occur to me until after I'd been yanked out of SC and my ship stopped spinning around in nauseating circles.

Anyways I got to the station, sold my data, repaired my ship (including the damage from my sudden drop out of SC) and replenished my AFMU ammo then set back off. I'm heading to Qeajo CZ-N c20-15 (David and Goliath) to check out these mountains then I was thinking about making the journey up to the Glorious Nebula. I've never been that far off the galactic plane before, I've gone maybe half that far under but I think my Anaconda should do the trick without much need for injections. I may need some but if a 45ly range AspX can make it with injections then I'm in good shape I think.

Also don't try doing the thrusters in supercruise either - same result*.

* So I am told.

Got a bit bored from core mining in my T-10, so I decided to challenge myself trying to build medium sized ship for the purpose. The obvious choice was a Krait mk II, since it's got both speed and agility plus a decent cockpit. I tried such a build, but it lacked cargo. Then I remembered Yamiks ranting about the Kraits just being a lousy version of the Python. On my hurried way towards a Conda I skipped the Python, so I'd never really flown one. That was a mistake! What a great spaceship.

On the FDL I've always hated the off center seating position, but it makes a lot more sense in the Python. Furthermore, in VR, the Python cockpit is really nice. Great feeling of sitting on "the Bridge", and as the only ship I've seen with this feature, the cockpit is reasonably dark! That makes quite a difference looking at the universe outside, especially when mining a dark ring. I turned the HUD down to minimum, and it looks amazing. The cockpit on, say, a Conda or a Cutter looks kind of like sitting inside the house at night looking outside. You get blinded by the light inside.

Furthermore the thingy can fly, and it's got decent cargo space. Absolutely a keeper (y)

Oh, btw. This one has a lot of rapid fire missiles. I need those Packhounds. I know it's something with promissing to be loyal to someone royal for a month, but is that it? Where do you do that in the game?

Yeah,i'm not sure which was the loudest, the bang as we dropped out of SC, or the resultant slap of the facepalm.

I didn't facepalm myself too hard over my unscheduled stop, it was a funny learning experience and I always learn best when I burn my hand on the stove. I guarantee I never do it again. Besides, it was kind of cool/cinematic. I didn't know an Anaconda could whip around like that. It turned a boring transit through a boring system a couple of jumps from my destination into something I won't soon forget. While I could have done without the shock I like the fact that this game gives you enough control over the systems of your ship that it's possible to make mistakes like this. Some of the more memorable/funny moments I've had playing Elite Dangerous are the result of the game giving me enough freedom to make an idiot out of myself. Some moments took me longer to see the humor in than others but I didn't lose my ship or anything as a result of this so I was laughing pretty much as soon as I figured out just what I did.
