Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Sounds like you'd all like to live "in the black" IRL :D

Not sure you be able to get your ED kicks if the leccy is a problem.

I would!! It was why exploration appealed to me so much. As soon as I bought the game, my focus was on getting credits and equipment together for my Asp, and as soon as I obtained it, I went off without a second glance.

I read books when the leccy goes off :) I've been in that position before :D

Some years ago I was going to up-sticks and head home to Scotland but my offspring raised merry hell with me since there is at least 3.5 hours ferry trip (longer from Oban) to South Uist and I caved-in and stayed here in deepest Yorkshire. (I should have gone really. {sadface} )
As an alternative you could bring some of Scotland to Yorkshire if there is a deep enough bit near you, a website I was browsing showed the puffer from your avatar for sale.

Additiion to the additional:

The black is not for me :( I don't know how you guys spend so much time "away" from the bubble - it was far too isolating and I felt... out of touch. So, I'm back in Shinrata and have just handed in my carto data which amounted to a paltry 14mCR. Embarrassing
Don't worry about the price. If you did 1KLy and scanned every system (which I'm guessing you didn't ;)) and found that it wasn't for you, then that's fine. I've just finished jump-honking from Colonia to Sag A* and I only got 40-50mCR. And that's with the first-discovery bonus :p

I know people have had all kind of explorer goals, but have anyone tried to circumvent the galaxy? Basically go "around" it as far out as possible? I know there's no discrete edge to follow, but I think you understand what I mean.

Lots of people. Enough to set up some dedicated rules if you want the badge (there's a thread somewhere around in the Exploration forum - since I don't care about the badge, I read it and forgot it when I started my circumnavigation - two years ago or so, on my first account). I had a second account by then, who is currently (and the foreseeable future) stationed in Colonia, so one day my first account just said "sod it" and took off. Not with the ship I'd have used if I had consciously planned it, but good enough to go.

He's currently sitting on a planet with Polonium and Crystalline Shards, about 20 kly or so from Beagle Point (still going there).

Oh, and "as far out as possible" depends on your ship and its jump range, so it will be different for everyone - and yes, all those stars on the edge have been tagged by now.

The trip from bubble to Sagittarius A* took me three weeks. When I cashed in at Jaques I found that I had earned over half a Billion creds. I did that by resolving each celestial body with the honk, then surface scanning all the terraformable HMCs, all the ELWs and all the WWs. The trip back from Colonia to the bubble was done at full speed, honking only when pausing to fuel scoop, and not surface scanning anything. That earned around 50 million iirc.
It really does pay to stop and look around.

I know that you can take time, but I was rushing 'cause, tbh, long-range explo isn't really for me. I want to get back to the bubble so I can resume my rep grind in my lovely krait...

Playing with my newly upgraded laser mining Orca which does double duty as an emissions hunter I have learnt an important safety tip.

Threat 0 Encoded Emissions site is not risk free in a high speed ship.

I arrived at the first such site and dropped out of supercruise to the almost immediate sound of proximity warnings followed by a loud clang and other upsetting sounds. It turns out that I had face planted into the largest piece of wreckage (containing the beacon) doing for my shields (with 3 pips in them) and 21% of my hull!

When I get back to port after using the 96 limpets I started with I will have to consider bigger shields, meanwhile when I get close to the location I am now closing down the mechanical throttle before pressing the 75% preset button so far I have come to a stop before hitting anything else.
I wonder if the collision has shortened the ship enough to fit on a medium pad now?

I am still making my way back to the bubble. Once again I had to manually navigate to a main sequence star to refuel because my route kept taking me to a bunch of brown dwarfs. I think there is a bug that when you leave the game and then come back in again when it recalculates your route, it doesn't make sure you hit the refueling stars at an appropriate time.

Ah but first off I have not got £100+K (can't remember what he has it up for this time) and second, the hull would no doubt reveal a nightmare once the thing is slipped (it sat at Inveraray pier for years).

My limit is basically this:

149456

;)

That was fun, cleaned out three conflict zones, but got a bit cocky in the last one, so i had to bail out.... limb out would be correct, no more canopy, no more cabin pressure, so I supercruised back to base with that darth vader sound and the clock ticking, but made it.... :)

I am sure your assessment of the hull as being a nightmare is as close as your estimate of the price which is only 10% (and a bit) low.
Something here smells fishy... LOL ;)

If I had the space (and time and skill) I would love one of these in a display case on the lounge wall:

(.... perhaps even the Highlander or Sealight from Mountfleet - but they are even bigger. )

Always liked the summer evenings in Killybegs. There used to be a small shop which you would pass by after a glance, looks a little like those canadian greasy spoons, but far from it, they make the best chowder and fish & chips I ever had. Went back often just because.... :)

Never been but just in case you thought otherwise the puffer was not a fishing vessel - it was designed for general cargo, of a size to fit the Forth and Clyde Canal and with a hull that could be beached to serve locations without a jetty.
