Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

While I'm out doing this exploration thing, two things have struck me:
  • An observation: route plotting takes a while longer than within the bubble proper - approx 5 seconds as opposed to instantly and I'm not that far out.
  • A question of sorts: all of the stars and planets must be in a database somewhere. If I go to system X and see planets A, B and C, so can you, right? So... where is this database and just how big is it? Frelling enormous is my thinking!

Hmm. I can't answer that directly, but, look up 'procedural generation' on Wikipedia. (y)

Hmmm. But isn't procedural generation an example of random generation? If so, then what I would encounter would be different to everybody else...

But perhaps I'm barking up the wrong algorithm!

No it isn't random - a simple analogy is that it is a generated "set" from a "seed". The "seed" is the thing created by stellar forge - basically everything in the galaxy (apart from the hand-crafted stuff) is generated upon you encountering it but generated exactly the same for anyone encountering it.

It is all explained here (well worth watching)

P.S. No I don't know how it does it either.

I think it might be famine. You telling me I need to wait for that too change before I can unlock the engineer?

Coming back to that, as we are chasing the same engineer coincidently, I got only mineral oil as well, then picked up six data run missions and a handful more to help with the famine issue, on return, 23 units where available.... then I had to do some real shopping, which is CRAZY friday at 4 PM in the city, people behave as if there is nothing left tomorrow, and the whole experience is very stressful, at least here in the land of the teutons, in NW Ireland on the atlantic coast, people are much more relaxed and do not behave like that.

Pheeew. Shopping in, now making a parsley root, potato, celery, carrots, leek, smoked bacon , white wine soup.... then back to Lave... LOL :)

Probably because in NW Ireland, people are used to nothing being there tomorrow :p

Bon appetit. Sounds delicious.

Oh my poor brain. Octrees? I sort of get it but that Dr. Ant is an astrophysical virtuoso. I think he's really Deep Thought 2.

I collected the necessary sensor fragments for Palin. I also dropped in on biological site to collect some more raw materials.

Now I need to strategize how to rank up Palin so I can get my Corvette's thrusters to G5 dirty drives.

I might take my Sidewinder to Arque and get the FSD engineered with Palin to build up my rep and rank up my access since I have plenty of materials for that.

I also need to get some pharmaceutical isolators .

Well you can rank up using repeated g1-g3 builds so that is fairly cheap and you can get away with remarkably few pharmaceutical isolators as you only need them for the one stage.
Next consider unlocking Chloe out in Witch Head she is a duplicate Palin so you can have two different blueprints pinned which can be handy. I have one with Clean drives pinned the other with Dirty, clean are quite good and somewhat easier materials wise.

You can get that 400 tonne cargo of Lavian Brandy but you need help from someone prepared to do around 33 trips in and out of Lave Station one every 10 minutes or so.
You both load up with the Brandy and leave the station when you get around 10km away your friend abandons his cargo which you collect while he goes back into the station where 10 minutes later he can load another batch of cargo to bring out to you, repeat this process until you have a full hold it does help if you have more friends helping.
This procedure is known as Teabagging but keep in mind this is not a term to search on outside the game forums.

Oh that's what I'll try when I get to open play. Many thanks for the advice.
400 Billion Star Systems, I wonder if I can find a friend out in there?
You know IRL , 7billion+ people on earth, still I am not trying limit my options.
By choosing just one or two fiends.... :)

Bon appetit. Sounds delicious.

I met people who lived there before electricity and cars were on the island, two of them, Hughy and Biddy, were my neighbours. Another neighbour was the one who called the cops on Ulrike Meinhof ( I kid you not!) and on "my beach" located on a wee cliff, was a small hut where you could find Rainer Langhans ( Commune 1) shouting like Hell at the sea for hours, performing what is supposed to be a scream therapy.

:) Apart from that, very nice people out there.

Donegal could be straight from a Tolkien book, in spring the entire coastline explodes for a short while into a colorful display and the place looks as if it was a blueprint for "The Shire", but in Winter the scenery changes dramatically, being a post-glacial landscape, a barren turf landscape, well, all of the sudden The Shire turns into "Mordor", for many months.

To scrape a living from this landscape was extremly challenging and in modern times, the proximity to the North brought along another bucketload of problems, and of course, fu____g Gombeens are in every corner of this planet, even Donegal. LOL

Thanks, soup was delicious indeed, 7 hours in the crockpot, then leek, bacon white wine, broth for 20 minutes in the pan, stir in sour cream, grate some fresh ginger, and mix with the rest of soup, a couple of slices swedish bread, done. A nice wee winter warmer.

As for crockpot, is there space for it in the imperial courier, if not, I am not buying. :)

There is space but for obscure historical reasons the Empire runs on 110V so your crockpot will take much longer to cook things.

I was meaning to help with the Lavian Brandy famine, but when I woke up in my spaceship and powered up my system it seems some kind souls had already taken care of it. Gladly supported their local economy with 50 units of Brandy (3 trips).

I'm now flying around doing more engineering. Primary target for me is my Vulture, which I installed a 4A Fuel scoop in to stop having to transfer constantly. Visited a few material traders; while I have acquired a decent amount of manufactured ones (had 60+ core dynamics composites) I'm lacking in raw and encoded. Will have to see to that soon I think.

I am even more lazy with a 5A scoop in my AspX. Deploy scoop.... 3.....2.....1.... retract scoop.

How do you get along with that Didi dude? Honestly, I want to throw him in a cheap cargo box and ditch him into a nuetron ride,, yeah, you go it, I can't stand him!

I had a feeling when I heard about that brandy thing, but Heck he is even worth, besides pretty much a one trick pony, but behaves as if he is the King of engineers, jabbers all day long in his high pitched whiny voice, and then that spit always throwing bubbles in the corners of his mouth, disgusting, let alone that stench of cheap Sirius hooker perfume, unreal! Besides he thinks he is gorgeous and always fiddles with his ridiculous head implants.

Obnoxious sucka.

Anyways what did you get, he is useless for shield generators.

;)

ROFL.... Oh well, then I bring my Römertopf and induction oven instead. Don't know about you, but I get always hungry in space.

A 10 hours slow cooked venison from the 12-legged-triple-antler yellow deer from Thor's Helmet sector ( bit of the beaten track) is not only delicious beyond your wildest dreams, but be careful with that tender cooked meat, never, NEVER EVER do serve a dish like that to Aisling Duval when alone with her, but if you do, have fun and that Lavian brandy ready, trust me, you'll need it later. LOL

Never worry - the Instant Pot also comes in a 120V version and, what's more important, also in a version with pressure compensation for those occasions when you are in an environment that is outside the standard pressure range. And, despite its name, it also works as a crockpot - with temperature control and timer setting.

Turn fire alarm OFF!

After a long mining haul, try this: Slice 2 inches fliet steaks from Vulcanian attack beavers, Blue Pepper from Sirius, Black salt from Hawai and flambé with 3 cl of Lavian Brandy.

Thank me later...
