Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Last night, the night before the update... LOL... Finally.... drumroll.... Made it to dangerous by relaxing as strip mining HazRes mats collecting. Went to Lorie Jameson with the required Kongga Ale and finally got them Scanners on fast scan and SBC's pinned. Nice! :)

..............
Next up is mining encoded mats at Jameson's crashed Cobra, once the server is back online. I read that you can do it from your ship, so that you don't have to use the SRV, and honestly, the only fun in a SRV is running over geysers on a very low G moon, trying to get into orbit.
I was there once, and did not like the SRV hassle, I had problems positioning the sucker in the optimum spot as per cmdr Exiguous and driving around there is as fun as a root extraction. From a ship? I'd be back in a heartbeat of that works.

This is silly. Sitting in the debris field / crash path, each of the comms points in range and SET YOUR HANDBRAKE - relog, fill up dead quick. Absolutely no hassle at all.

Just tried scanning datapoints at Jameson's crashed Cobra from a DBX. You need to get VERY close, and I'm not sure you actually recieve any mats. I'm on my way back to the SRV, once I've restored my bindings.

Btw. Even though I had KGBFOAM enabled in the Galaxy Map before the update, the first thing I experienced was being thrown out of witch space at a nonscoopable star. Be careful out there ;)

You guys are so fun.

I just want to add one thing about the point defense at the guardian ruins. I've done it twice, on 2 accounts, and never used point defense. So don't feel like it's a must. You can just avoid the missiles, play hide and seek with the drones. If you do get hit it will knock you around, though. Setting the handbrake helps there a bit.

I'll probably go again on my newest CMDR. Maybe I'll actually try the point defense this time. Or I might forget. :p

I'm at the Bug Killer doing the same as I haven't been for ages but it looks all normal here. Getting data at about 40m with no problem.

The only issue I have so far is that the display is juddery when first entering a system *. Or logging in.

EDIT * lots of people getting this. Devs say it's server lag or something and it will settle.

Today I busied myself unlocking The Dweller. He requires you to demonstrate your ability to smuggle, by dealing with at least 5 black markets.

It's been a while since I attempted to avoid a scan, and I'm out of practice! I didn't even bring heatsinks.

I got scanned at the first station I attempted, and my cargo of Imperial Slaves was seriously illegal. I expected a harsher response, but all they did was issue me a fine. They still let me land. I paid them the fine. They smiled and looked the other way as I sold one Imperial Slave into illegal servitude in the Federation. I wonder what happens to them? I doubt anyone buying them illegally is going to honor their original contract. Hmm. Such a shady business.

Such is the moral fibre of Elite (and me, apparently :p ).

The rest of the deliveries went smoothly, with no one the wiser. Except, somehow, The Dweller himself. Even though I didn't get caught, he still knew as soon as I had delivered my 5th slave. Anyway, he invited me over for a chat about laser upgrades, and requested that I bring him a half million credits, small bills. No problemo. I'm the criminal sort, doncha know?

So now my 'conda is partially engineered -- enough to make quite a difference already. It doesn't really take that much playtime to get Grade 3 stuff, and it's only a bit worse than Grade 5.

Here's how it looks at the moment:

And a picture, too, cuz I like taking pictures. This is Blackhide base, where The Dweller does all his best dwelling.

Go get data from 'Bug Killer ' site instead, lot less hassle.
Easy parking.
There's a spot where you can line up the SRV on two of the thingies, click-scan, click-scan, relog, repeat. No need to move the SRV or mess with the turret.

I honestly found it much quicker than Jameson's.
Once I'm full, four jumps back to the Encoded trader at Ray Gateway.

Ooooooooohhhh...... First ever Thargoid encounter!!!!! :) While in my SRV that deep sea creature came in.... but did nothing to this unarmed cmdr. which makes me wonder... perhaps they are not hostile? - LOL -

Found an occupied escapepod too, another first, but... argh... no cargo... so want to Rays Gateway and picked up a cargo to bring the poort sucker back to civilisation.

Fun stuff! :) Thanks for that, and yeah, downtrading at the station is very nice and fills up everything quite fast.

A useful lifeskill I am sure to boost through a narrow doorway with no-one looking.

I would like to see the ethical alternative offered. If slave trading is to be offered in the game, why not make slave-trader hunting more of an option. Blockading or destroying slaver installations. A community goal or two down the line we would see the cut of the CMDRs jib.

I found it quite straightforward to open up The Dweller. 5 units of Imperial slaves (they love it anyway) and delivery of one per platform station. I found these less likely to bother with a scan.
