Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

This guy has the most innovative High-G landing technique I've seen. I have yet to try it myself, but it's on my list.

Ventral thrusters: get upgraded by planetary suite to be able to handle high Gs
Pilot: uses main thrusters instead

KnezBP's post above made me curious so I popped over to Cubeo for a gander, not having been before. I don't think... anyway... that outside port thingy seems to house two ships, the lkes of which I've never seen before. What are theser things? They look, when up close, like cruise ships of the ocean going kind:

I think you are just looking at the underside of a damaged Majestic Class Interdictor - the Imp capital ship.

My random wanderings have taken me to the NGC 6357 nebula. Some nice pinky-purple backdrops here.

I've been to NGC 6357 before but only passing through so this time I've decided to stick around for a little while and do some proper biological research. I expect it to mostly involve bark mounds - and sure enough the first planet I find with bio signals ...

...better start picking off these growths then!

Posting diarrhea today.

That "tunnel" looking thing isn't accessible. I wanted inside :D

Nice. Glad my travel log inspired you. :D The whole shipyard structure with the carriers and sticky out docking things made it a good little assault course to test the Eagle. I came back with my Cobra III and it felt like I was flying a brick. The first thing I did was crash and lose my shields.

Well the standard Eagle is the most agile ship in the game, the Cobra is about the 8th most agile.

Good news! I joined Tyres’ group! :)

The less positive is that my ship is still getting permanently stuck at minimum speed post FSS, until I drop from SC and wake out again. There are no conflicting binds, this is the set up I’ve been using for ages; so I guess it is bug report time. I’m sure that will get fixed in no time at all cough

I'll probably get an Eagle when I'm back in an area where they're sold. I like smaller agile ships but maybe I can eventually engineer the Cobra to the point where it's a near perfect compromise between explore, fight, and carry cargo. For me anyway. Obviously everyone has their own perfect setup in mind.

Yes, his technique looks easy to use, and incredibly safe. It also makes a lot of sense using the main thrusters like that. Just point your nose vertical after ending the glide early, wait for the ship to stabilize at zero speed, then go backwards down to the planet by using reverse throttle just a tad. Don't change from vertical orientation until you're at the surface.

I just haven't had a chance to actually do it yet. But I will!
Thats... obvious?

It really took the community years to work out that the most powerful engine on any ship is that main thruster?

I despair.

Lol. I think we knew that. But he’s the first I’ve seen using it with reverse throttle to land on high-G planets. Other techniques like toggling FAOFF/FAON or slow pancake style I’ve seen in many vids, though.

That was a fun diversion. Trying different mining techniques. I'm thinking sub-surface is a pain and not worth the aggro - but that's probably because I'm not practiced enough. Still, it made a change from LTD's.

The Raxxla thing is proving to be a little... well, I'm wondering whether, when they said it exists, it actually doesn't and the Dev is having a giraffe :D

So, I could be back to exploring soon. I do have more than enough for an FC now but I probably won't indulge. Probably not. Maybe one day.

Well, it's finally completed.

Callsign J-KR, a 140,000 word Elite Dangerous novel.

You would think that now life will return to something resembling normality in these unusual times, but instead I've started on J-KR2. This time I'm blowing lore and canon apart in my own deeply researched take on Project Equinox, Thunderchild, Gail and (hehehe) Raxxla. The prologue will be posted tomorrow sometime, and I'm almost as pleased with it as the epilogues of this one.
