Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

My current parking space is rather scenic, don't you think? :)

Holy moly. Yeah I think you win. 😲

Any more victories like this, and we're going to lose.

I'd rather have not had to deal with the bathroom ceiling collapsing (thankfully I wasn't in there). Or the attendant attempt by the a-hole neighbor to get me in legal trouble for "breaking her apartment". I've been playing something nice, relaxing, and mindless the last couple hours to calm down. Namely, The Sims 3.

Yes, it really is.

The same neighbour who dropped her bathtub into your bathroom? That must be America (sha la la la)...

Yeah, I just can't understand the mindset of some people.

"I'm being evicted, so I'm going to flood my bathroom!"
"I got caught because a leak formed in the apartment below mine... Grr"
"The bathroom floor collapsed because I'd been flooding it. I'm going to sic the police on the neighbor who got me in trouble for flooding my bathroom!"

Why is this even a thing?

EDIT: I'm really glad maintenance had shut off the water in that apartment yesterday. It would have been even more of a pain if there'd been water gushing out after the bathtub fell through the floor. As it is I was cleaning up as best I could. Also glad the entire ceiling didn't collapse, just the area where the tub had been sitting.

EDIT 2: The Updating
Well, I've found out what's going on. A-hole neighbor has been arrested on a few charges... Among them punching a police officer after said officer refused to arrest me. Yeah, perfect end on that front. Kind of like when some a-hole swatted me over me passing him in Mario Kart, taunting me over X-Box Live over how he hoped the police killed me. Only for me to later hear him being arrested for swatting me while playing another online round of Mario Kart. Why do I keep running into these idiots?! My bathroom has had it's water cut off too in case my bathtub's been damaged in non-obvious ways, so I'm having to fill the toilet's tank with a bucket after flushing for now. Contractors are going to be in next week to fix the ceiling, and install a new bathtub. I have asked if it's possible to have a shower stall put in instead since I don't really take baths. The tub's not long enough for me to comfortably sit in or deep enough to sit in comfortably.

So... On to trading, I guess. Not in VR though. I need to remain aware of my surroundings still.

  1. I quite liked that when I caught it, the remake lost the feel.
  2. Never caught that one.
  3. Very odd but good, they have just finished reshowing them on forces TV, where I learned Steel and Saphire where elements.
  4. Loved that, had trouble following it at times but loved it.
  5. So very good even the remake (How 2) was good.
  6. Another one I missed.
To be fair I was out of the target age group for some of those.

Well, landed at my first planetary outpost. Because of how bad I am with judging when to exit Supercruise, it took me 2 real time hours to reach Aitkins Hub. Unfortunately, my hopes of being able to sell my hydrogen fuel for profit there got dashed. But I was able to pick up a couple missions going to the space dock in the same system, plus a low profit cargo. Once I landed at Mawson Dock I turned in my courier missions, sold my cargo, and checked the mission board. Seems Coelho Station over in the Matet system really wanted Preformance Enhancers for some reason. There were eight missions to deliver two Preformance Enhancers to Coelho Station, each one paying 41k and change credits. Oh, and a courier mission paying 18k and change credits. Had some extra cargo space after accidently firing off all my collection limpets while fighting off a really bold npc pirate, so I also picked up four tons of pesticide. I could make 600 credits per ton profit over in Coelho Station with that, best potential profits in the starter systems at Mawson Dock. Well, outside pirates that is.

Took off, almost as soon as I arrived in Matet system someone scanned my ship and demanded half my cargo. NPC pirates... again! So I shot up the pirate that dared demand my cargo. Unfortunately he managed to run away. Still, made my way into Coelho without any further problems. So ka-ching! Payday is here! Feels good after being forced to dump cargo at a loss several times. My coffers were kind of wiped after outfitting my Cobra mk III. Still haven't gotten everything I want for it either.

One of the things that really annoys me in the noob-zone is if you bring some cargo on spec you can't use it to satisfy a mission on the board.

For example, travelling back from Coelho Station to Mawson Dock with spare capacity, load up with, say, 6 t of coffee. On the Mawson Dock mission board if there is a mission asking for, say, 4 t of coffee you cannot accept the mission and satisfy it with the coffee you already have. Even launching and re-docking you still cannot do it.

This is stupid because outside the -zone that is something we can do - bring cargo and use that to complete missions. I can think of no reason to prevent this in the starter zone.

While I am whining about anomalies in the noob-zone, what gives with their station orientation? Outside the starter region all station slots are oriented to point to a location above the south pole of the body they are orbiting. In the noob-zone you have some oriented along their orbit - why? Just to mess with noobs when they venture outside?

I think the "source and deliver" missions are the ones intended to teach you that it's possible to buy commodities needed for a mission (if for example pirates stole the cargo).

EDIT: Ugh, so tempted to leave the starter systems early. Paid 1600 per ton for a hold full of polymer, with the intention to sell it for 3,000 a ton elsewhere. Decent profit. Only by the time I pulled into port the price of polymer had tanked across the newbie systems. My current port of call is now offering 400 credits per ton, with the average sell price in the area being 600. Dag nabbit!

Some of those passed me by. A for Andromeda is a new one on me!

I used to have to sit with my daughter in my knee while she watched Rainbow - she loved Bungle but Zippy scared her.

Strangely, Zippy reminds me of the frogs from the Smash advert.

"They peel them with their lite knives. And then they smash them all to bits! Hahaha haha!"

Mining report from Nagarlaw. Tritium everywhere...
The ring system has many hot spots and one large area Tritium.
So converted a Krait Mk2 into a miner. While onboard the FC, such a fun bonus to do that.
jumped into the ring 1.6 ls outside of and near the T hot spot, using lances on many roids passing by.
most low yields below 20%, but Tritium is all around, just not indicating as shiny with the pulse wave.
200km from the hotspot prospectors picking up high yield tritium and low temp diamonds.
all get-able using the lances, some surface deposits. I guess I need a blaster then.

Only problem, could not jump to super cruise from outside the ring, 'Orange Sidewinder'...ed
logged off, so will try later...

FDev seems the master of unintended consequences so perhaps there is something about those noob missions. You didn't go to the bother of ejecting and picking up the cargo? Actually it makes me think the cargo in the noob zone has some special property. I bet you didn't buy the commodities outside of the noob zone. A curious observation you have there.

Hey Mr To'f, some food for thought on a FC for you.
I went with this config after reaching 6.7Bcrd's. The 6Bcrd FC.
Seems like a good general operations config for a non squad Cmdr.
put 500Mcrd in the carrier bank and have fun for a year.

Elite:Elite:Novice, I wish I had a better understanding of the principles of the combat game.
I quickly learned to ' do as they do' . In a res or combat observe the viper and vultures.
They boost in to assault you then boost out. I find gimballed weapons on a medium ship works for me.
The krait Mk2 is in the middle of the ship range. Made the assumption it should be good to defeat all ships when set up.
So, a 'joust of beams at full boost', I've said that before. boost out, turn line up the target, boost in, the best shield wins.
rinse and repeat, npc's can't generally hit moving targets. Oh and I generally only target the power distribution module.
No PD no power , drains the capacitors.

A some point I do want learn how to only disable a ship, module by module, so as to leave it sitting cold in space.
To make pirating the cargo easier. If some knows a sequence to this let me know.☠

It doesnt work like that either.
IF you disable the engines of an NPC - they will maintain the speed and direction. They won't stop.
Pirates that do that have to use their ships to apply brakes to the drifting ship by putting their ships in front of the disabled ship and using their thrusters to stop both ships.
