Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I found this odd ring thing. Best wat to describe it is via a photo:

What was wierd was that I couldn't probe it: I was always too far away

After a moments pondering, I gave up as my brain is too small to cope with such anomalies. Any idea what it is I am seeing?

The very next system over, however, came up trumps for me:

Not much to write home about - until I checked the nav panel:

Thars pain in them thar hills! And fuel! And other goodies I'll be exploting tomorrow... "Ahhh, smug mode".
But you have published the location on a forum, the ravening hordes will descend on it and mine it all by then.

Just finished watching the nVidea live stream reveal. I want an RTX3090 now...
Wow...The numbers are awesome. I come from large mainframes in the 1980's.
Touched a Cray once, installed a Japanese vector processing mainframe for a Met bureau once.
That machine could barely do 5 gigaflops and lived in a large computer room full of peripherals.
Fujitsu_VP2000 , historical info in japan.
So, now it is all in your Pc case....I might have to change my new laptop....back to a desktop??

You touched a Cray? Very nice!

Yes, the numbers are impressive but, in the stream, so was the price: $ 1,499 which roughly translates to 1,100 of your earth pounds. That's a lot of ARX.

I'm trying to learn a new video editor, so I made this just for you, Tyres!

It shows how to find Painite in less than 2 minutes! Check it out.

PS I don't always find it in the first 2 asteroids. It's more like every 4th or 5th asteroid has Painite. But it should be easy to find! :)

Cheers for that! (y)(y)(y):D

Very similar to my approach. I always have two prospectors out while my limpets are collecting - provided the roids are close enough.

Incidentally, your COVAS seems to have a nice 3Dechoey sound to it. What have you set for that? I have Windows set to virtual surround using my Soundblaster Zx card but yours sounds better.

I seem to have been taken over by wanderlust. I wasn't planning on getting too far from the bubble, but...I seem to be drawn to the center.

Right now I'm in the Hawking's Gap sector somewhere. I don't know why, I just wound up here.

I found a system with quite a few asteroid belts, and realized that I've never actually visited one. I've always heard they weren't worth looking at, and so I never have.

So I dropped into one, just out of curiosity. There were a few big asteroids, and I mean just a few. One of them glowed yellow when I pulsed the scanner -- it turned out to have some very nice surface deposits of Osmium :p The other asteroids had low levels of low value ores.

Well, at least now I know the rumors were true :)

On the bright side, I also discovered a lovely uncharted Waterworld.

The galaxy is vast, and the more I explore, the more that sinks in. I like it.

Maybe it makes the troubles of the world seem smaller.

Or maybe I just like screenshots. :)

I like the rusty paintjob on the T9/T10 in the first image.

A few weeks ago, I found a system that seemed to meet all the right conditions to spawn LTD haulers in supercruise, and had a reasonable (long enough to have time to move to intercept, not so long as to be a pain) cruise from star to station. Low player traffic too.
Last saturday, the local anarchy faction went pending to take over.
Yesterday, they went pending boom.
This morning, they won the war, and boom went active.
And then, finally, I went out to see what I could find in supercruise, now all the dominoes had been lined up...

I love it when a plan comes together.

Whilst cooking up a batch of tritium, I happened across some granddads...

Edit: Due to my lethargic nature of getting from one place to another, I'm still 19KLYs away from Colonia.

Also... my carrier commander (who doesn't recognise her own boss, i.e. me), just said "oh seven commander". Oh seven! O7! I nearly lol'd for realz.

Had a very frustrating eve yesterday- bumbled about some geological sites on a planet with slim pickings - only about five sources for unremarkable mats at the three sites I tested.
So, I continued on mission to try and unlock a Guardian FSD blueprint at HD63154 - even the parking was painful:

Cue an hour of messing about with pylons and sentinels, before finally getting the orb up...

...then utterly failing to successfully scan the blooming thing!! Ended with a Scarab on its back getting done in by even more sentinels.
😖

Ouch. Annoying.

Persevere though - that booster is well worth the trouble!

Summoned the carrier to a body I wanted it to orbit so I could make a short journey for delivery of tritium.

I saw the carrier appear on my nav panel and zoomed over to it - except it wasn't there. I'd got there just before it did - I'm such a Lando.

So I waited a bit and I get the comms "Warning! Capital class signature detected!" or something similar. I thought I was going to witness some spectacular-massive-ship-exiting-from-hyperspace light show.

I was disappointed.
