Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

You can craft heatsinks (and pretty much every other type of "ammo" and also many other useful things) on board. It's called Synthesis and it is accessible via the right-hand panel.

Well, at least if you are scavenging raw (from mining and in SRV) and manufactured (from dead ships etc.) materials on your way.

Also - your situation is one of the reasons why it's wise to have "jump to another system" and "jump to supercruise" bound on two different keys. You can then hit "jump to supercruise" and escape without needing to cancel your route in galaxy map.
Many thanks for the advice - I do indeed have them mapped to a single key - Will sort out my key bindings.

Oh and don't feel bad about feeling like a newb. Elite is like that and continues to be like that for the entire time.
I mean, I've been playing for six or what years and the game still throws me a curve ball that leaves me gaping, from time to time.

LOL I googled it - I ate some Pie!
Bah! You gave it away!

Here you are then, solve this:

:devilish:

Incidetntally, I do have a favourite equation:

N = (R*) × (fp) × (ne) × (fl) × (fi) × (fc) × (L)

...So not a good day today.

Still heading to Beagle Point, and was on a paltry 250+ jump leg.

Was getting a bit bored, so started messing around.
After a few jumps I'd perfected a "Barrel roll fuel scoop maneuver" and had it nailed to muscle memory

Then, to my surprise, I dropped out of hyperspace into a dual star! First one I have seen!
So, as you've guessed, zigged instead of zagged, and got too close to one, and promptly dropped out of super cruise

I was reasonably calm at first and fired off a heat sink - hit jump, and saw a message about can't jump, exceeds 5T fuel..... didn't read the rest as the n00b smell in the cockpit was replaced by something more sinister!

I switched to the galactic map and cancelled the route, then switched back. Temp critical, fired off another heatsink.
Hit jump again, and managed to get clear.

Checked heat sinks - none left!

I fitted 2 heat sink launchers and assumed unlimited - didn't RTFM!

Scurried off with my tail between my legs to the nearest (20+ jumps) Fleet carrier for restock and repairs. Also cashed in 45Mil of cartographic data.

Not quite the end of week two, and still a n00b :(
I try scooping from two stars at a time whenever I find two really close stars. I haven't found anything close enough yet though...that takes a lot of heat sinks getting in between two of them.

Not sure if I've ever synthesized ammo for heat sinks but I must have at some point.

Also nice to know from that link that I can synth life support if I ever need to. Didn't know that was possible...

Scavs are present at an empty settlement where I need to obtain a thing.

Since I'm such a wimp, I missile them to death from my ship. Land away a way, and drive to the buildings. Decide to take some photos. Hear a scav ship exit orbital cruise. Drive back to ship. Take off. Apply more air-to-ground ordinance.

I love doing this but it breaks the immersion when the corpses just disappear upon disembarkation and it doesn't count towards mission bonus for eliminating them.

Lord above, look at the time. I ought to get some shut-eye! :D

I like a relaxed pace most of the time, and I've recently discovered that I love abandoned settlements at night with lots of scavs.
With night vision, quieter footsteps and an audio masked executioner (finally) I pick them up one by one at my own pace, or zap them from the back if I feel so inclined.

when i do it, i seek behind them and maybe get 1. then the rest get me.lol

i think since i started ed i managed to get one mission completed.although lately i am lasting a bit longer. running away from them.

There are many aspects of the game where I still qualify as a n00b and I have been playing for years.

Multiple star systems can be a real issue sometimes and no one technique is going to keep you safe every time.

After advice and lots of experience I have learned then when crashed out of cruise by a star I am not in any real trouble until I use more power and try to get back into cruise, the solution without using heat sinks is to shut off non essential power in the modules tab which minimisers the overheat.
Non essentials in this case means anything other than thrusters FSD and life support.

Even if you can see your jump target it is better to jump to supercruise, the buildup is quicker, so less time to cook, and you can use the time in cruise to restore power and let your ship cool down as heat tends to get carried through the jump with you.
