Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Spent some time learning how to mine rocks. (No I don't have a lot to do on xmas day 😹)

First off, just buzzing around the rings near Jaques looking for some core-minable things. Boy did that take ages to fill my humble 96t of cargo! You have 5 busy minutes when cracking a rock, then 15-20 on the lookout for the next one. That's a little too much executive function for my taste, so instead I refitted for an all-in-one miner and went to a painite hotspot just 50ly away.

And here I encountered the first weird pirate behaviour; the little buggers came back about 10 mins after their initial scan, by which point I had a few tons of painite aboard. Shot me up pretty bad before I managed to low wake out of there. A bit my fault because I really haven't got any defenses on this, but also, never, ever had pirates appear again after their initial scan when zoning in.

Anyway, patched up, came back, and decided to let the PWA guide me to any interesting rocks. Which turned out to be a really good plan, because it had about a 1 in 3 success rate picking them with either painite or osmium (both sell upwards of 100k in Colonia), and some sort of special feature. I got surface deposits, subsurface deposits, and even a couple of cores.

I don't know if this is the most time efficient method of mining, but it is much more satisfying than core hunting because there's no need to visually-inspect rocks before planting a prospector, and so many of them are of some sort of value.

End result, after about 5 hours, a bit over 35 mil. Not good hourly returns by anyone's measure, but I lost a lot of that buzzing around finding ship components (why doesn't Jaques stock a PWA?) and reading up on mining tutorials. The take-two painite run took under an hour and filled the cargo hold for ~20 mil.

On the way back, I hit the second weird pirate behaviour; I wasn't massively surprised to get an interdiction attempt on the way to Dove Enigma in Colonia, but the same guy decided to show up as I was docking. Suffice to say, a bunch of local enforcement appeared and by the time I left, there was nothing left of him but a high wake 😹

Think I'll get myself a python and kit it out for some further mining runs; the extra cargo capacity (or maybe limpets) would be welcome, and additional hardpoint for a second sub-surface blaster would definitely be good. Constantly running out of ammo on that one.

After that I'm going to have to do some sort of materials hunting to max out the engineer here then... back to the bubble I guess. Unless I get the urge to go do some deep exploration again. I've no interest in the fps parts of Odyssey, but maybe I'll get it just for walking around...

@Nekozji don't worry about the python, get an t9 if you can afford the heavy price tag. and fitted that with the limpet controllers, I think my has 8 limpets all at once, and 1 refinery. minor defence . I think it about 256t. but fills up very quickly. and small jumps only 19.83ly (max)

:)

cost is 144,987,534
insure: 7.2 million

The second weird pirate behaviour I used to see quite often and it is very satisfying sight if you have been mauled by that pirate on the way to the station, though I remember more explosions than high wakes.

I suspect in the first weird behaviour the pirates hadn’t left just moved out of scan range, if they don’t jump to cruise they are still in the instance where you are.

Hmm. Did support missions all suddenly get disappeared?

Yes, I know - Christmas night and I playing ED. No, I have nothing better to do. Well, I could watch Titans, The Wheel of Time, The Expanse or perhaps some Peaky Blinders I suppose.
Well, I've just finished the Tiffany Aching series.
Now reading Jingo, and then I think I just need to read Carpe Jugulum.

And that's the Pratchett journey over.😢

They show up for faction in Infrastructure Failure, or sometimes Civil Unrest. So they can disappear when states change, which often happens on a Thursday.

Just find another place that has those states, and you'll probably find some.

For me, I decided to work on my alt CMDR a bit. She was able to easily unlock Farseer, because meta-alloys are now abundant at Odyssey planetary ports. So then I decided to get her some materials, because she has (had) literally nothing but 15 Tellurium in her materials storage. No data. No manufactured.

Jameson's Crash site might look good today, I thought. Sure enough, it was actually fairly light out. It's always been pitch black the few times I've visited it.

I think I might ferry her out to the Crystal Shards to fill up on raw materials. While they still exist.

This is me spending part of Christmas :)

Happy Holidays, all.

done the first part of winking cat? yes.10 mill for reading a message plus a launcher :). i think went there read all the poi i could find including the Sirius one on the next planet which no one ever seem to mention.

basically reads " world craft are no longer working in the any empire system"
has the Sirius group have taken over most of the operations.

I might fix up a Scav Dropship for Tanya from all these free Winking Cat credits.
I did exactly this. It's a Chieftain with missiles on all hardpoints. The reasoning behind it was clearing out scavs when on restore power missions. I lack the skills - currently - to take those bad boys on foot and you don't get any money from scanning the corpses - they disappear when you disembark.

But nuking them from orbit (it's the only way to be sure) is quite fun anyway.

Having said FDS, I've just seen a necro thread bemoaning the rubbishness of the T-10.
So I might buy one of those.
And I actually really like the stock livery.

Decisions, decisions. 🎅

The T-10 is extremely impressive if you load up every hard point with a missile launcher and put them all in one fire group.
Unfortunately it is a big target that is a little too slow all round to make combat feel pleasant.
