Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

OK, I think I'm lost a bit - where can I see how many surface CZ's I've completed?
It's in Statistics - Combat splitted into High - Medium - Low.
I did go out in my Python this week with 3 mining lasers, abrasion blaster and charge launcher. It's not a bad set up, but does feel sub optimal. I find the Python just a touch too long, slow and cumbersome for core mining - even with engineered thrusters. There is just something that feels right about the Krait II for core mining, even though looking down on the asteroid field looking for cores seems to work best for this ship.
Yeah, but no place for subsurface missile + ye, it's slow with 3 lasers, 4 better. Speed is not that big issue for me (core mining Keelback, so P), an issue was my pulse wave in Python that found me cores while laser miining, was sad to abandon them. But for both core + laser bigger ship is needed.

I've never tried sub surface mining. I'll try it sometime. The hybrid laser and core miner was an experiment. It works OK but I'd rather outfit a ship for one or the other and not both at the same time.

Never tried core mining in the Krait. I use the Python and the Clipper depending on what mood I'm in.

Core mining is fun to do, and even though it takes double the amount of time it is nice seeing a 150 million credit payout from a 224 ton cargo hold.
The Clipper is still on my list to try core mining in. In my head I think it's a bit big, but the cockpit view is amazing and it's insanely fast and agile for its size. My second commander uses one for mission running, so I could just outfit that one for core mining and try it. It is fully engineered for speed.

No doubt, yeah, specialized ones work best, my whole story started after i fitted a pulse wave to my laser miner, just to discover after that, that i do find cores with it.

Then thoughts about fitting all the stuff necessary to handle another core while mining platinum, but no, then it's only 2 lasers. I do fit a single subsurface missile on my every miner tho - only takes one slot and may earn you some extras on your way.

I ended up with laser mining Python that performs quite well + a core mining Keelback mostly for fun. Had quite an xp in Colonia when i found like 5 cores in 5 mins, sometimes it can be impressive even profits wise.

OK, colour me confused :ROFLMAO:

According to my stats, this:

But I'm sure I've only done 3...

Its actually game like. You press and hold the bound button to shoot the missile, and if it hits its mark, it drills into the surface, which you can see on the target panel, and while it drills you let go to stop at a particular depth, hopefully within the blue pixels...I find it challenging...and fun...it doesn't let out as many fragments but they are more pure...

Found my first Void Opal today core in an overlapping Tritium hot spot

...
Yes, and the class matters. They multiply the number of fragments you get like so :
---
(so always use an A-rated prospector)
Mine is a 3A - I had a much better time in the overlapping Tritium hot spot - 97 Tritium, even ended up with 5 LTDs and about 45 limpets left...

I have just bumped up with a FB post saying EDH4 and EDO4 players will be instancing together, is that mean the chance getting matches in CQC will be better after that?
Nope, they can't instance with each other, according to FDEV's FAQ

The relevant bits:
"For example, a player on 4.0 (Horizons) will only be able to see other Commander on 4.0 Horizons when in-game. They will not see anyone on 3.8 or 4.0 (Odyssey). This example extends to each to each of the other two versions."

I have a couple of laser mining questions for all you miners who know A LOT more about it than I do.

Is the Pulse Wave Scanner useful for laser mining? I'm not sure...I specifically didn't use it on my last outing, which ended earlier today.

Does using the Prospector Limpet allow more raw ore to be removed from a particular asteroid than not using it? This seems to be a yes, but I haven't done a detailed study...
I heard along time ago the Pulse Waver Analyser (PWA) does nothing for you in laser mining, but I was curious a couple of days ago when I had my Pythion outfitter for laser and core mining, and so had a PWA fitted. Basically it shows a bright glow for cores as we know, but also - I think - a dimmer glow for asteroids with surface deposits you could remove with an abrasion blaster and maybe you et something for sub-surface - I'm less sure about that. Any other rock will not glow, and that rock could be 66.66% platinum. I've used a PWA on a rock that was 66.66% platinum so I know that for sure. It was dark.
Doesn't matter what prospector you use when core mining, but for laser mining an A rated is a must.

Last night I used the PWA and found a rock with a water core (or some such irrelevant thing) and it also had 4 Tritium subsurface deposits. I got about 25 or so tons out of that one alone.

ETA: I had to synth reload the subsurface displacement missile launcher 3 times...

It dances around asteroids at a rate that makes the Python seem like a Federal Corvette. I'm serious. It's THAT much better.

BUT

The off angle aiming takes a LOT of getting used to. My kingdom for just one center mount on the Clipper. Just one.
