Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

There are a few suit cosmetics that make your CMDR look like something out of Captain Scarlet. I'll try that when the game stops giving me transaction errors when trying apply them.

The "Tiger" one - which I think came about to celebrate the Chinese New Year - has a white version that reminds me of Elvis. Not good for stealthy looks. Plus the trash press... ""Elvis alive and well and living near Eol Prou LW-L c8-302".
At the moment mine looks like something out of a really under budget SciFi schlock movie, X-ray suit with Intrepid extras and a Pumpkin helmet, yes I am trying to come up with something worth entering into the Screamshots competition.

Hmmm, skin in EHD4 arx store still bugged? All skins are highlighted with "Odyssey required" 🤷‍♀️
Well it’s not as if you can use them for anything other than sitting in a cockpit in EDH4.

I'm now on my way back to Deciat and only 5 jumps away, re my mini-discovery expedition in my 32ly jump range Dolphin. I reckon that even though I only went out about 500lys I didn't do badly, honking everywhere I arrived with the FSSS and managing to get plenty of first maps. No first discoveries of course but I never expected any of those at such a short way out. I actually came across an already discovered Earth-like world this time amongst other things, which oddly enough was one more than I found on my previous 10,000ly round trip in the Asp X.

Proof! The Dolphin is a better exploration ship than the AspX.

Hehe

I once put it to the Devs about having an intergalactic jump capability. Their response was along the lines of "Woah hold on! It took us long enough to do the Milky Way!".

Well, that's just being lazy 🙃 :p 😜 😗
There is a rumour* that we will get the jump capability/ferry to get to a neighbour or satellite galaxy when we have discovered/visited 10% of the Milky Way. For reasons of Heinlein, Van Vogt and Blish I would quite like the Magellanic Clouds to be reachable.

Aye I meant moon not planet. Yes of course the tidal locking would be to the parent planet, not the star as you say, same as Earth's moon. My timezone is Zulu ie GMT and BST when the clocks have moved forward as they have right now until the end of October.

Anyway, it would be quite a novelty for me to approach Farseer in daylight so maybe I'll time my arrival to coincide with that some time. :)
The first time I arrived in daylight it felt almost wrong.

*That I just came up with.

Best explorer is a dbx. Modified fsd giving 70+ly range with a guardian fsd booster.
Small easy to land.
I used to think that. But on really long trips, the smaller fuel scoop and less internal slots for modules changed my mind. I think the Phantom is better at most things for an explorer ship, except the landing in tight spots. The DBX will always own that. Both are great, and I choose whichever I feel like when long distance traveling or going exploring. But if I am going more than a couple thousand ly's I never seem to pick the DBX anymore.

Yah the refuelling is slower but it's easy to fly not too quick, which can easily get you into trouble planetside, but above all its cheap if blown up hehe. My goto explorer ship.
Mind you tbh I've never flown an asp or dolphin.
You should give the Dolphin a try,it is cheaper than the DIamondback Explorer, has a size 5 internal slot and more internal slots, is more agile and is almost impossible to get heat damage.
Admittedly it has about 10% less jump range but that isn’t the issue it used to be.

The "Vintage" skin package is COMPLETELY bugged out.
So here we go. First off, here's the suit:

Vintage-blue-suit.jpg

Here's how it has to be equipped:

red-for-blue-arm.jpg

yellow-for-blue.jpg

You have to use all yellow on the head and torso and even then you don't get all blue. Notice the yellow patch on the chest but the blue straps.

Then you have to use the red left arm to get the blue stripes, but notice how the red left arm also has the blue ring around the wrist where the actual blue right arm has the redish ring around the wrist.

It's completely bugged out and done entirely wrong. Yet another thing that really gets under my skin sometimes about FDev: It's the simple, really stupid mistakes that can be fixed in seconds that they simply refuse to fix that drive me absolutely nuts.

I use a DbX as a hopping-about-the-place vessel - the jump range makes transiting the bubble really quick and the fact it is small-pad friendly makes it less prone to delays at outposts. I have used it in exploration activities but it just feels wrong when you are 10s of kylies out for some reason, the larger AspX feels much more in-tune with the zeitgeist of exploration. On the other hand, I did a long trip in an exploraconda and I would never do so again - it was heart-breaking to wallow about in supercruise. I might try a Phantom at some point.

I come over all 60's sci-fi when I see that cosmetic

I came across an incredibly scenic planet today. I thought the big ejecta crater with the little mountain range nearby might be interesting, so I went down.

The mountain turned out to be 7km high. I think it's the highest one I've ever found.

The huge crater below the mountain is 5km deep, making it a good 12km vertically from the bottom of the crater to the peak of the mountain.

I kept flying all around this area, just looking at the views.

The terrain on the mountain was very steep and uneven. I didn't try to get an SRV down there, but it would be challenging to navigate.

There was even a forest of Tubus on the plains below the mountain. (and a Where's Waldo vibe ;) )

Pretty cool, I think :)

I managed to get a few Atypical thingies locally in the Mamba at nav beacons. While I was at it, I also managed to destroy a couple of wanted Master NPC ships, which were one notch higher in combat rank than my one of Expert so all good.

Now I'm back at base I've got my trusty old Cobra MkIII ready as it has a mining laser fitted, so I'm off to try to plunder a few asteroids for arsenic (I don't have any of that all) and a few other bits and bobs...

That is an amazing place 😁

OK another goal for my October expedition achieved - gain another exobiology rank. I started at about 10% into the previous rank.

Not sure what to do next as I'm only 15% into Elite II so might not have time to get to Elite III. I'll think on it in the morning. 11 more days until the return journey to the bubble.
I'm at 60% of the way through Taxonomist.

That’s curious. I was recently working with a player who firmly believes that there is a gateway that leads away from our galaxy in the game. Only accessible by carrier due to the distance between stars on the galaxies rim

Currently planet side. Waiting for a colleague with a carrier to take me to The more distant guardian colonies for analysis of the glyphs, then a trip to trapezium because I’m still trying to locate the missing beacon that is associated with the structures there. Still analyzing the markings and carvings I found. I have a few matches. But nothing concrete as to the meeting. I will keep you posted. Qapla

Took 16 Tons out for a stroll into the resident asteroid belt to test the equipment and understand the practical side of all the mining theory...

Worked out pretty well, got to use the mining lasers as well as the abrasion blasters. Could have used the means for subsurface mining, too, if I had them aboard. But to cover all the bases, I would need a ship with more hardpoints. No heat issues, as the temperature didn't get over 50-ish% before the lasers ran out of juice.
Actually was quite fun, maybe because I had no pirate interference. And yes, mining is a feasible option to make some money. Even though I did not spend much time out there, maybe half an hour, and collected a small bag of mixed goods (around 15-20 units in total), containing some silver and other stuff, it gave me almost 300k Cr (if I remember correctly), without even trying.
