Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I honestly wouldn't even go bounty hunting without a fuel scoop 😹

If I was really serious I might fit a class 1-3 scoop, as I did on my T9 when I was using it for a cargo CG. For the sake of a couple of % cargo space, you save yourself the pain of that one time you forgot to refuel before you left and now here you are, in an uninhabited system, unable to leave. And no, you don't want to fill a T9's tank with a scoop, but it's quicker than calling the Fuel Rats!

(I know the Fuel Rats are amazing, but I'd rather never have to call them!)

They spilled all the good beer and their customers left in disgust? 😰
My T9 can jump 220 LY without a stop and doesn't carry a fuel scoop. If you find yourself stuck someplace it's just very poor planning on your part.

In all my bounty hunting, I've never had to jump more than three times and it's normally only 10 to 20 LY per jump. No ship I've ever used has ever come close to running out of fuel even when stacking 18 missions at once.

What's more, bounty hunting never occurs where there are no bases, so you can always refuel any time you want.

Fitting a fuel scoop for anything other than an exploration ship is a complete waste. You lose cargo space or a reinforcement module or something very useful. All you have to do is have a plan.

Well, I park my Carrier in orbit around Wolf 363 3 and never run short of targets, there are two Resource Extraction Sites that I can use in the system, one High the other Azardous, so no, my Corvette is not equiped with a fuel scoop, waste of a well needed Internal compartment.

Same for my Cutter when I do trade loops, I fit a 4C Fuel Tank instead, have enough range for traveling to station and do the loops and avoid overheating.

About the Fuel Rats, I tried to join but their are near impossible to contact, I'll try again because this is a role that appeal to me plus my Krait Phantom fit is one of theirs with some adjustments.

OK. leaving Aucoks EY-L c10-13 now, been doing a lot of exploring, L 2 and 3 Scanning. Will do it again in 5 Jumps.

The nice thing about mining out in the black is I can stop whenever...and when I get back, no pirates. So I don't "have to" fill the full cargo capacity in one sitting, though sometimes I do.
I have never mined that far out, but if when I do I probably will avoid doing that because I don’t want to learn new ‘bad’ habits. It’s a bit like waiting to jump a Dolphin until it would be safe in a normal ship because if I got into the habit of starting the jump as soon as I was lined up I would cook one of my other ships by mistake.

Oof. Good luck, bon voyage etc!
Ta!

I'm hoping to alight in the bubble sometime on Thursday. I broke the back of the journey today but there's still a goodly distance to go. It's not just down the road to the chemists.

I've used the Spansh route plot tool and it is most excellent - each jump is 499 to 500 LYs in length to maximise range. Boomshakalaka.

On another note, I haven't "seen" some CMDRs around for a while... such as @Para Handy @Speedcuffs @Spaceman Si @Simon Templar @Rock Hunter etc. Hope all is well!

My last core mining run for Alexandrite of my expedition to Planetary nebula NGC 6842 area. The only reason I'm core mining is to do it with this view. I don't need the credits. Heading home to the bubble on Monday, and I don't have time to play over the weekend.

Geeeeezus. 35mn warm up for a Carrier launch, that's new.

Coffee, then on my way again, 17,754.44 LY to go, I elected to go for a tour of the systems around the carrier every 5 to 10 system depending on my mood, taking the Krait Phantom for a spin scanning systems at Level 2 and 3 to sell system scan data to Universal Cartographics, which should contribute to mitigate the cost of traveling that far and back...

Sounds like a server issue although my jumps are the usual 15 followed by 3 cooldown.

I'm still heading for the Morgan's Rock Asteroid Base that's 4,000 odd LY from Sol, but getting closer to the bubble again on this route, as right now I'm only about 1,400LY from Sol. Anyway, those hilarious spacefaring Red Dwarf guys have helped me out once more, as I just came across this completely undiscovered system that includes a water world. :) So it's off to map it now.

I’m still knocking around, mostly just reading (keeping an eye on the thread about the anomalies etc) but I haven’t had a chance to play for almost a month due to travelling for work projects. I was stuck in Trollhattan, Sweden for a week with COVID but thankfully home now so maybe next week I can have a play around.

I‘d also noticed ParaHandy’s seeming absence. If he’s decided to leave the forum it will be a big miss. I’m sure I’m not the only one who received a great deal of advice and knowledge from him over the years.

Take care Cmdrs

So I'm doing these reboot missions and taking the time to go through these settlements and get all kinds of materials. I mean I'm finding TONS of stuff, but none of it seems to be used for crafting anything.

Is there a short list of materials I should be getting and just ignoring the rest? Also, I think additional backpack space is going to be the first mod on my Grade 3 Maverick suit. It gets really old really quick running back and forth to the Scorpion to offload the backpack.

Yeah, was a server issue, I couldn't log in for while...
Based on the time of your post it could have been around the time of the Thursday reset which might have been a factor.

Back just after the hugely profitable Tritium CG when almost everybody and their Alts bought a Fleet Carrier times where in hours it was said that the published times for jumps are the minimum allowed but if the servers are too overloaded the time will increase so as not to kill the hamsters or damage the generators attached to their wheels.

If Inara doesn’t have a list you could compile one as they do show what each blueprint needs.

Other than the backpack issue couldn’t you just store them? After all they may be needed in the future if other blueprints are added and can be traded or sold now without affecting your engineering capabilities.

Again, running back and forth over and over again for materials that aren't used at all doesn't serve a purpose. Why store that which is never going to be used? I have searched but can't find any information on if they can be traded or used for anything else at all.
I believe they can be bought and sold (traded?) via the Bartender on a Fleet Carrier but to be honest I may be miss remembering.
