Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I don't know what "via RD" means. You just set up, inside EDDiscovery settings, to enable webserver - it uses a port number (you can change) and can be viewed via a browser on the iPad or tablet over your network. It is readable enough, you can change icon size and the touchscreen can bring up info like a mouse on the main prog. You can show different screens, I didn't use the webserver at first as it didn't have the scan graphic screen, once that was added I jumped at it.

Here is a pic showing the size I use (I have blacked out the the mess on my desk, sorry) to give you an idea...

(mucked about a bit lot so it will upload and to try to give an impression of size... that is a 2017 9.7" iPad..)

(didn't realise the iPhone pictures are so huge!)

Just noticed that a new 10.2" iPad with double the RAM costs less than my 9.7" one did in 2017. (Now I am wondering, do I actually NEED 2 iPads? ;) ).
That's pretty slick, I think I might try that with my laptop, I've been using EDDiscovery for four months now and like it. Like Gomez said, it can be complicated until you have an epiphany and it snaps in to place in your head.
Nothing beats the 141.2 DPS of the frag Mamba while the ammo lasts. It's all about the hardpoint positioning with that ship - all on top.
I had one of those take me out in Colonia, I was testing my Anaconda right after I got done engineering it and forgot I was in open mode. I have engineered Bi-weaves on it and I was interdicted and the Mamba took them out in one shot, then he targeted my engines and destroyed my ship, I was looking at a rebuy screen in shock. The whole incident was in EDDiscovery, the ship type, ship name and pilots name. I guess he's notorious for doing that, probably someone's alt account.

The Anaconda is a big slow target. At a compromised nav beacon Anaconda's explode faster than most ships because it catches all the frag fire. Eagles an Vipers take a lot longer as it's really the huge rapid fire incendiary round multi-cannon that gets them. The frag shots rarely hit these small fast ships.
Fast charge bi-weaves are great, as the Mamba can outrun most other ships to top up the shields when needed. It's a greatly underated ship that can turn quicker than its reputation suggests if you do the right thing with pips in engines, control your speed carefully and use boost sparingly.

I prefer the Mamba over the FdL purely for its hard point placement. The one on the underbelly of the FdL is icky to me - and so is the one on the Corvette but that has lots of guns. I like guns. Especially state-of-the-art bang bangs.

Hmmm... As I mentioned earlier I'm gradually heading towards the Temple Region. I've been setting routes of maybe 9 or 10 jumps at a time roughly in that direction but just now, I was hyperspace jumping towards a star early in my latest route, with a jump of about 50 LY, when suddenly I got the "Mauve Adder" bug and the program crashed. When I went back in, I was placed at the star right at the end of my latest route, so I progressed in one go about 250 LY instead of only 50 LY. 😗😏

I've come across a few white dwarf stars around here (although I wasn't in one of those systems at the time,) but haven't asked any of them to dance for the extra jump range. So I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

(EDIT) Sorry I got that wrong. I didn't got 250 LY at all. In fact I'm not sure I went anywhere, but whatever, the game seems to be back to normal so far...

You don't want to try a WD boost, the jump boost is small and the exclusion zone is very big (compared to the jets) so it is easy to crash out and take damage. Stick to Neutron Stars for boosted jumps, they are usually very easy to charge and you get a good boost....

Now I got to bind the Warthog and see what it really feels like, but it is hyper-heavy compared to my TM 1600 and about 1/5 inc taller, also, knobs action is a lot firmer.

Back when I was starting out in the game there were several discussions about the Warthog including comments that due to its weight it had to be registered as a weapon in some jurisdictions.

Well, the Vulture is fun, but it just doesn't have the punch of the FDL, so I went ahead and jumped back into it, bought the ship kit for it and decked it out.

I can't imagine how good this thing is maxed out. I'm only about half way engineered and it's simply off the rails good.
There is a reason why the FdL is usually the meta for PvP combat.

My rig is only a year old and it's well out-of-date already :ROFLMAO:
Mine will be pretty soon too, but I have some head room...

I get used to the underbelly hard point, I fitted a 3C Beam Laser [Gimballed] Long range XXX Thermal Vent on it, it's slow tracking but if you give it a little bit of angle of attack it gets faster, you just need to keep your nose up in relation to the target.
The whole point of my build is strong shied and target shied depletion together with strong arty, in some assassination missions I went out vs two heavies (target FDL and mercenary Anaconda) and the FDL escort, Vultures.
They are harder to kill than on Extraction sites but I managed, I lost a Corvette to stupidity once when I failed to recognise when it was time to bug out but after that, I've been pretty comfortable.
Deep Blue.

The large under the nose of the Corvette is OK for me as I put a long range thermal vent beam there and on the two mediums. Whatever it's shooting at is in front, and if it can't hit something the two huge overcharged autoloader multi cannons can.
I don't think I need to say much about the mess that is Anaconda hardpoint placement. The huge hardpoint cries out for a multi cannon, but anything under a ship needs to fire longer distance in front of the ship without the need to lead the target - like a laser....

Slowly heading back to the bubble, about 50 jumps away, and yesterday (Thursday) for the first time in ages seeing the occasional Distress Beacon on planets that I was mapping in an unarmed DBX I was going nowhere near them.

Today (Friday) seeing a formation of six Rogue Signals in the FSS but couldn’t get range information for them, it looked like they were near a small red fuzzy object.

Actually I don't really want to try any star jump boosts, whether Neutron or WD. I've not practiced any and don't want to risk losing my ship when I have all this unsold exploration data with me. Any time I come across one of those stars I supercruise away from it, honk the FSS to see what else is there, then jump to the next system.

And yet there are ways to counter them with a slow-ish Corvette, like getting into an asteroid belt where the FDL speed is no longer an advantage, like Mirage 2000C vs F-16 in DCS, it's all a question of playing by your forte, not your opponent's.
It also dawned on me recently, every Chieftain Vs FDL PvP fight on YouTube I've seen results in a win for the Chief.
Someone will post 10 videos of an FDL winning now 🤣

I agree, that was my exploration ship, Durandal, it doesn't have weapons. I have a Krait MK II for combat and have had pretty good luck with it, I think it's like you said before, it's a lot about pip management and keeping your speed in the blue.

Haha, I feel your pain. I thought I was billy big boots with my 5900X and 3080 and now that's considered "average" and I see the processor I paid way too much for and the GPU I also paid too much for going for half now.

That said, not much upgrade path still, the new NVIDIA cards are basically skip fires (or house fires based on the 4090!) although those new AMD cards look nice.
