What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I've been working on a sandbox zoo containing all the African animals we (currently) have, organised by Biome. There are 6 zones - Aquatic, Tropical, Subtropic, Grassland, Savannah, and Desert. I've put all the habitats down already so I know where everything is, but hardly anything is decorated yet!
On that note, I was working on a couple of the Tropical species in this zoo, the Bongo and the Okapi! Here's a top-down look at their habitats. They're actually separated, but I have one of the mesh-type fences in the middle for the water, and it doesn't show up much at this distance, haha. At least on whatever low setting I've got the game on to avoid frying my device, heh.

I'm not really one for the buildings so much but I LOVE playing with the plants and making everything look super lush. The Okapis!

And then the Bongos, this first one is showing where the fence boundary in the shared waterhole is.

I have no idea if I'm going to finish this zoo, or if the ADHD brain gremlins are going to steer me into something else, but for now I'm enjoying the ride and having a ton of fun with it. ^^

Let's continue our visit to the Nocturnal House exploring the other half of it. After the badgers, red pandas and binturongs, now you find the pangolins:

Next you discover the adorable fennec foxes, which also have an outdoor area like all other animals in the house:

And the last animal is the aardvark:

I wanted to show how the corridors look inside. They are very simple so that people focus on the animals:

After doing the whole tour of the house, you leave through the second entrance/exit to continue your zoo visit. I like that the building doesn't look so big from the visitor point of view:

So after my Christmas holidays, I believed I would jump back into Planet Zoo right away, but I went astray with Assassin's Creed Odyssey for a while. But yesterday I received the new computer I ordered, and oh boy! Everything is so much more SMOOTH! I was able to play in my Niceland Zoo, which I had previously abandoned because it started lagging. Now I'm able to play in it, invite more guests and even expand with more habitats. So the new setup allows me to make larger zoos which is amazing! I'm now adding Mississipi Alligators and probably some other species too.

Ages ago I started a zoo in Hokkaido based on real Japanese zoos like Maruyama and Asahiyama zoos. I thought I would have another go as I am trying to practice building so I copied the polar bear enclosure I was working on and tweaked it a bit. I don't know how far I will get with the zoo but I am happy with this so far.

I have given up on this one. I just really, really dislike the colour of the tundra biome grass. I could cover it in snow but I don't want to make a zoo that only functions in winter. I am, in general, finding the lack of flexibility with the biome textures and the map backgrounds a real stumbling block at the moment. I started something on a grassland map but I don't like the colour of the soil. I started a taiga map but I really dislike the colour of the grass and snow won't stick. I started something tropical but the weird mountain formations are too much. I just can't make what I want to. So I am taking a break rather than get frustrated. I won't be gone but I just can't see myself building much for some time because nothing works the way I want it to.

Most of us have this sometimes. Step back and take a deep breath, the joy for the game will come back sooner rather than later.

I played a lot lately, just didn't share my progress. For februrary I'm changing up my morning routine and play an hour before work, instead of writing. I'm looking forward to this and hope, at least two of three zoos will be dlc ready when time comes.

Since I only worked a half day today, I build a new sun bear habitat in Wingburg, to have enough space for breeding. Now the Binturongs are on their own again. I just copied their shelter over vor the sun bears, but will update it eventually.
Unity is also comming along quite well, only Murmeldorf is neglected again.

There are Parts of Hokkaido that are temperate on the Ingame Globe. Have a Zoo there too so I'm absolutely sure about that

That's exactly what I feel like about the antarctic Map. Those damn Trees in the Background and I think someone mentioned once that real Mountains are also extremely uncommon there. I'd love to finally build the final Version of my antarctic Research Center but for that they would first need to make it possible to play on a scientifically accurate Map (a Option to create a Coast Map and some antarctic Plants would also be nice)🐧🐧🐧

I actually ignore the globe locations as they aren’t realistic in terms of biome or background or in only one or the other. Once I’m in the zoo I don’t care. I just wish, as I have said before, that we could have green grass on a grassland or mountain map. Or a map without hills in the background. Or snow that doesn’t melt the minute it stops falling. Not too over the top given we can have floating islands in the sky.

Normally Snow stays for a While. Even really long on the Tundra Map. Do you play in Sandbox? If so, make the Weather cloudy when you don't want it to snow anymore. I think someone once mentioned that this should work. As I said it also normally stays really long in the Tundra Biome, so it should also work fine if you keep the Weather random. You'll only have a relatively short Time without Snow and then there will be Snow again for a Eternity. Antarctic Summer is the closest Thing to properly implemented Seasons we do currently have in the Game. Summer might even only happen every few Years there (Not sure. Didn't play in my Research Center for a long Time)
I agree that green Grass in the Grassland would be nice because the african Savannah isn't yellow and dry all the Time. It depends on the Season and I think North American Grassland is (almost) always green. Don't know enough about North American Grassland to be sure but I assume at least in some Places it snows there during Winter? Customizable Weather would be nice when you start a new Zoo. Also customizable Plants and Backgrounds and a Option ,,Seasons on/Off"

I got frustrated with my formal city zoo and decided to unwind with a walk in the woods. Not done much today as both the badgers (to the left of the lake) and the red pandas (on the right) have had cubs so I've mostly just been watching them while I decide what's next. I was thinking wolves but I'm leaning towards the ibex to celebrate the mountain enrichment being fixed with today's update. And it would allow me to build up the terrain behind them in an attempt to get away from my usual flat zoo...

I've put in a fake railway ride to mimic a theme park I used to go to when I was a kid where you either walked the from the car park to the actual park or caught the miniature train. I've also realised that I keep using Rycie's classical font. Really wish we had less cartoony font in the game.

Looks really nice. I think the Font of the Build Pieces is ok, even though one that looks like the one on the Picture would be nice. What bothers me however is the Fonts for the customizable Signs. Most of them are just to Theme Park focussed

I only play in Sandbox. My point is about snow staying on the ground with a clear sky. This for some reason is impossible except for tundra where it is fine. Any other biome the snow disappears as soon as it stops actually snowing. So you can’t have snow and a clear sky on a temperate or taiga map for example. You can only have snow on the ground when it is actively falling from the sky.

I never have random weather, I always control it myself. I wouldn't want seasons to be implemented because I want a real time zoo where I can make the weather reflect the actual real life conditions as they are now. You can do that with sun and with rain. But it is impossible to have snow on the ground with a clear sky. If we had manual temperature controls we could do this.

It's not a proper fix but if you put coolers down, you can keep the snow.

Thanks. And that's a good point about the signs as well.

They could make Seasons optional like the slower ageing due to the short Years and because some Players don't like them.
Reminds me of a Feature that Black & White had. You were able to connect the Game with the Internet to get the same Weather in the Game as the current Weather where you live

Even though we don't have any Species from there yet, I've opened my first New Zealand Zoo. The Kangaroos and Red eyed Tree Frogs already moved in to get Money for the Park. I do almost always use a Heightmap to get a smaller Entrance Building. I need to just create a completely flat Heightmap someday. At least I won't need to remove the Mountains completely because I've planned to have Hills on one Side of the Zoo. The male Kangaroo is really big and leucistic🦘
Edit: and my first female Kangaroo was born. Every Kangaroo that was born in my Zoos so far, was male

Progress on my zoo is slow lately, but I'm enjoying every little step of the Peafowl Temple. Today I finished the little fountain on the right side and the foliage around it.

I don't like the South American floor pieces as a path, so I'll probably change it, although I haven't thought of a better alternative yet.
