What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I tried to do something different and get out of my comfort zone, so I did a funicular or cable car for the people who don't want to walk to the upper zone of the zoo. It's quite simplified, because I'm not a great builder and with my laptop I can't get too crazy.

Now the upper viewing platform for polar bears is easier to reach:

Great work, I’m trying to push myself too but it can be so challenging at times.

Some new shots of my WIP park!

Im also back! Atleast for a little. I didnt do that much, but i build this nice little shade structure for the lions and a new custom fence, splitting the back side of the lion habitat from a truly big attraction. Soon, Mr Benjamin Blümchen will join my Zoo so some preperations must be made, wish me luck.

In the back you see what soon will be turned in a nice, big mixed species habitat with multiple zones were the smaller antelopes and ostriches can seek refuge. For now, i want to include our big friend who stays a secretfor anybody who doesnt know, leechwes, gazelles and ostriches, making a very nice view from the main viewing gallery of the lions.

The shelter itself is only slightly themed, but the lions dont seem to mind. Thankfully they can actually enter a little part in the center from all three entrance sides, so the hidden sleeping hay and the pumpkin will hopefully lure them in to see them relaxing eye to eye through the glass. I also put the pumpkin in a way that it couldnt roll away and at the edge of the traversable area, so any lion munching on it like our pretty girl here will watch right into my camera while taking screenshots. Nice!

Now theres just one more lion in the room: How do i keep them from breaking out on the side? Maybe i will extend the hut a little and hide a fence in bushes or use a glas top for it. We will see.

So yeah, im feeling motivated rn and hopefully i can finish something in the next days or atleast make some big progress! Cant wait to see how it all will turn out.

Today i used my time to adjust my pathing and to work on the fence of the lion and elephant habitats. While doing so i got randomly inspired to build a little aardvark habitat so, here we go.
We got a really nice panorama view, when your coming up the habitat is allmost invisible as it lays low under the raised pathway, but lays nicly in view when your standing next to it, making a very nice Panorama with the elephants and also lions depending which side your looking from.

But thats not all! As you can see, theirs a functional tunnel underneath the pathway that the aardvarks frequently use to enter the habitat of Finis 3 gemsbock, as i thought just this was quite small and without any real stable for them. So let me ask @Fini, may my two cute little Aardvark chare the habitat with your gemsbock, or shall they get their own little hud on the other side?

Overall im actually quite happy with this side of their habitat, but im sure it still can be improved quite a bit, so if anybody got a good idear, pls tell me, thank you!

How many panoramas do you want to build?
KönigDerKaffeebohnen: Yes!

Like my old grandmother allways said: "If it isnt part of a panorama, it isnt worth my time"
No but seriously, panoramas are just a huge upgrade from standalone habitats!
70 Percent of a habitats appeal is its fence and a nice panorama is simply the prettiest back drop imaginable.
Also its allways cool to look around and see stuff from an angle you didnt even had in mind, as each panorama works from multiple ways and has an infinite number of opportunitys for a breath taking view!
Nothing is like the feeling of looking at something, while also seeing parts of something cool in the back ground amd honestly just talking about it makes me miss my old zoo where i did a great job on that

Tldr: Yes

You can do what you want :)
I wouldn't pack them together. I'd be afraid the gemsbok would trample the aardvarks flat ;)

One of my most used animals are red pandas, so they also made it to Bear Lake Park. The rear part of the habitat is open, since they can't escape because of the little river.

Next we have a mixed habitat for beavers and cranes. I don't know it this mix could be done in real life, but it works well in the game.

Any suggestions on how you created this? Looking to do the same for my mixed african habitat & lion idea

For the Panorama? I simply made a big hill behind the lions and a trench between them.
The trench got filled with water and i simply build a fence inbetween so that the animals cant cross it, but hid the bulkier part underwater.
The fence should look sturdy, but not take away to much of the sightlines, it takes away from the natural feel.
It also helps to have the path a bit elevated, so that your gonna look over the fence anyways. Work with trenches, use water to hide the sturdier parts in it or rocks and plants in dry ones.
And the last tip is, just look at it alot!
Put yourself were the visitors would be and take note. Where can you see well? What is hidden that you want the visitor to see?
What do you not want your visitor to see?
Its alot of just trying things out, looking at them, hiding your fences, using trenches well and generally just playing around with perspectives.
Good luck! Cant wait to see it!

Finished the laaaast habitat of Murmeldorf, just in time.

I still have a lot of fine tuning to do, there are some bare buildings and shops and such, buuuut... that's good work for when I'm not creative and don't have much time.
I am DIEING to build high budget again now and have been in the mood for an asian focused zoo now for weeks. Sooo... today the blank tropical map of Yuma City Zoo was born.

Yuma City has a high budget and three themed section. A kinda lively urban section with mostly indian animals, called "Rang Biranga" (colorful in Hindi, according to google translate which can never be trusted but I like the sound of it), a jungle-y one called Bunga-Bunga (flowers in Indonesia, same as above) and "Shizukesa" (calmnes in japanese). Yes, pretty similar idea to my old Unity, just Asian focused and with me planing out the places of the habitats aaaall from the start, I'll hopefully stick to it this time. 32 habitat species is a heck of a commitment, it must be said.

I am super happy the new DLC played into my wish for an asian zoo and wasn't completely different :D

I started to lay out the main work zone buildings for each section as well as deciding where every section starts. You can reach all from the main entrance and they should connect there again.
Next step would be laying out guest fascilities and plan the position of the habitat. 32 habitat species.... I feel a little overwhelmed. Hope I didn't bite more than I can chew and this project will end like ... every other project that was not Murmeldorf. Ugh.

I scrapped part of the gigantic lake in my asian section (and deleted the boat ride, my poor guests will have to walk everywhere from now on) so I could build a habitat for the leopards we're getting soon.
The plan is to have a section for asian cats like the leopards and tigers.

Aramar, you can really build a zoo.

Lately, I've been struggling with ideas. I again redid Longview Zoo as my in-game HQ; now I'm satisfied. I have:

  1. North America
    • Prairie dogs
    • Gray wolves
    • Alligators
    • Pumas
  2. South America
    • Capuchins
    • Spectacled caimans
    • Giant otters
    • The Pantanal:
      • Capybaras
      • Anteaters
      • 1 tapir
  3. Little Asia
    • Japanese macaques
    • Red crowned cranes
So, now I'm about to build Montego Bay Zoo (I did in the past, I'm redoing it. It was inspired by Aramar's Port Royal Zoo). What should I begin with?
