I started an attempt at a wolf habitat this morning. It's annoying because I know exactly how I want it to look, and I've done a nearly identical concept in the past, but for some forsaken reason it isn't working this time. The plan is to have a ground-level section that goes up to a raised section where there will be a cave. Guest viewing will be both at the bottom and the top, with the top then spreading out into another part of the zoo at a higher elevation (I'll be using this elevation throughout the zoo's periphery, and also using it eventually for the penguins/seals underwater viewing).
I have a handful of ideas I want to do - this mountain area for wolves/Himalayan brown bears (because there's no Eurasian brown bear (not that I'm complaining, certainly not desperate for another brown bear) my "lore" is that the exhibit used to be for more local bears) which will also transition into an area for red pandas/snow leopards/Japanese macaques
- The "aquatic" section for seals/penguins.
- A South American area for giant anteaters, capuchins, tapir, jaguar, and giant otters.
- A Living Fossils tropical house for reptiles, exhibit animals, and cassowaries (maybe peafowl too - this is really where the green peafowl would be nice to have, though).
- And of course the quintessential African section.
Getting it laid out in my head is proving challenging, but it's fun to have some goals in the game again.
