What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Got done with my wolf habitat today. Built a cabin viewing area using logs and those great glass panels, and then a cave viewing area too on a higher level. I decided to mix and match the real rocks with the new fake ones - couldn't quite get the colours close enough but I ended up liking the effect. The cave is fake rocks, the rest is real, so it looks like the habitat was constructed around some natural rock formations (or at least real rocks were originally used in it) but when they added the cave they used fake rockwork instead.

My next plan is to build two habitats for Himalayan brown bears (one for the male, one for the female and her cubs when she has them). They'll be a stand-in for Eurasian brown bears as I said upthread. After that I might start on an African section but we'll see how I go. As always, I really wish we had white or black rhinos. I might just use the Indian rhino as a stand-in in the meantime anyway.

Ummm... I'm sorry, but your wolf habitat sounds extremly awesome. May I politely ask for a screenshot?

It sounds cooler than it is, probably. I'll see if I can get a screenshot but I've always struggled to post them here (considering the game is hosted on Steam, you'd think the forum would be able to host screenshots from Steam, too).

I've learned today that I have a special Talent for designing Camel/domesticated Animal Enclosures. The Llama Enclosure I've built was already absolutely awesome and the Bactrian Camel Enclosure I've built today was also great (even though at first I've built it too small. Might start a Thread about this Zoo. Not sure about it yet

Also started to run out of Roof Design Ideas after finally getting good at it 😟
I'm sure you'll be able to make a great exhibit - you are always passionate here and interested in building and pretty sure you'd be phenomenal at it too. Trial, error and perseverance make for fun building, I find - I'm definitely no expert and keep trying and changing things for ages before I'm even a little bit happy - I also went for realism with my latest build and structured everything accordingly.
I just had an idea and Googled some research material for building style and then went to work - oh - and I started on Sandbox map - makes for quicker building (less stress on PC) and don't get distracted by other exhibits - I found it flows better.
Not to sound like I'm lecturing, but - please enter - would love to see what you come up with, what ideas you have and what do you have to lose 😁

So because my tropical zoo definitely was coming to its limits, it jumped into cold water (pun intended, lol) and startet my first franchise zoo after playing in challenge mode all the time before. I was finally able to check out the little torpedoes, I mean, penguins. Goooooosh, aren't they fun?! They are spending less time in the water than I had expected, but make me smile every time they... run. :D Also, they are breeding like crazy! And I love their sounds!

Can anybode tell me how (the heck) to place this wooden play-enrichment platform? It kept telling me it was lacking space. I decided to use the icy rock instead, which looks artificial enough in that environment ;)

After playing more with the new pieces as well, I agree with everyone who loves them, and especially the fake rocks. Really versatile!

What really annoys me is how much of trial and error the terrain/water is. I don't know why, but whenever I roughly "sketch" (=prepare) a habitat, I manage to put in the water super nicely, creating a shallow bank. In order to modify the habitat and because it is easier to place rocks and foliage, I often remove the water and it is NEVER possible to fill it back in. I always end up with a very steep water line, which makes it look stupid when animals enter the water. Often, I don't even know what I changed in order to reverse this. That's quite annoying because it often ruins the intended aesthetics. Other than that, I think I'm really getting better with the water work!

Maybe the File is too big? I don't know about the File Format in which Steam saves normally but try to change the Picture to jpg if it isn't already

Edit: just noticed that you where able to fix it

Sometimes I'm great at building. The Black Bear Enclosure in my other Zoo is great. Especially the View they have from their little House at the Bamboo (and I think they can also see another small Building from there). But sometimes I'm not that good. Especially if I'm trying to design a very big Building because it is connected to a Enclosure with tropical/subtropical Animals. I hope when I start to get tropical Animals in my current Zoo, I will be able to create a beautiful Building for Gorillas (I love Gorillas a lot) and other Primates.

Maybe I'll try again if I can somehow build what I want to create for the Competition. I just fear that it could end like with my abandoned Nuclear Power Plant I've built for another Competition that has a Piece Count that was way too big (I think even one of the Cooling Towers was above the allowed Piece Count). I've even thought about a bit of Lore for it how it was before the Catastrophe. For Example a Dog living on the Grounds of the Nuclear Power Plant and a Duck Pond where the Workers loved to sit during their Break.

I'm the same. I just full-on deleted my Living Fossils house because it wasn't working out, whereas last time I built one it all fell into place perfectly. 😅

My morning goal is going to be finishing off that backstage area (/expanding it) and decorating the area with more trees, maybe an ice cream and slushy shop to round-out the whole 'penguin' theme, and figure out what I want to do next. I'll probably have a crack at starting my African section.

Many awesome creations lately!
It's great to see this new influx of willingness/enthusiasm to play the game again and people showing their creations after the Aquatic pack. I really hope this lasts more than with previous packs, also amongst content creators. I don't want another 1-2 dry months without meaningful activity and creations.

My case is kinda of funny cause I'm quite inspired now but not particularly because of the Aquatic pack (in fact, I haven't even used any of the pieces or animals yet). I keep working on my humble zoo with European and African species. Today I'm showing the only habitat I've built in the European area of the zoo. It should house fallow deer or red deer but reindeers are taking their place.
I will stop there until we get more European animals: I don't want to just use wolves and brown bears and call it a day. So I'll continue with the African area which should be more consistent.

Your Reindeer Enclosure looks great. I like the Viewing Area. It's really a Shame that we don't have more European Animals. I'm currently building a Zoo that starts as a small European Forest Zoo and 2 of the Enclosures I wanted to build, can't house the Animals they are intended for. One of them is the Ibex Mountain with absolutely no Animals and the second one is a Wild Boar Enclosure where I keep a Warthog and need to lie to the Guests about it being a Pygmy Wild Boar 😆🐗
I don't like the Idea of using Timberwolves in a Enclosure that is intended for European Wolves but sadly we do currently only have American Wolves in the Game

Finally got my seals in today! Still a little slow at boxing, unboxing, checking navigable area, adjusting water, then feeders, then back again, but I think that I'm getting better (since we have to to make it work). Do have to keep reminding myself that sometimes, the simpler solution may be adding rocks or construction, rather than doing anything with the terrain itself (which has been my default until now).

Got Animal Talks in for the first time today for the other 4 dlc animals. The game is giving me warnings that my educators spend a lot of time walking. I'm thinking that means I should assign each of them more talks to do (like I'm being inefficient and not giving them enough work), but need to make sure that it's not the opposite (that they're walking too far to get to a staff room, for example).

Realized that my caimans had way too much room, so I split the habitat in half to get twice as many in... and they've still got way more room than before. So I decided to leave them as is, but also try my hand at a smaller above-ground aquarium style exhibit for them, built around the size listed in the game. Got that mostly set up, but didn't have time to test it or get the animals in, so I'll do that tomorrow. While I've got underground pools for almost all my animals (whether they require water or not, because I just like them to have a pond), this is my first time trying something above ground, so we'll have to see if it works. If it does, I'm thinking of doing a walk through house for my caimans, with multiple small exhibits for them instead of a big one -- since they have a 1 to 1 gender ration for adults.

I agree with you, I also spend so much time on Youtube at the moment! But I was also playing less in the past two/three months due to personal reasons, like simply lack of time. Of course, my enthusiasm was fueled enormously by the new DLC, but even without it I would probably have played a lot more around the holidays now. So I rather hope I'll have enough time to play in the new year.

I have also come to the solution that I won't touch the water as soon as the animals are in. Unless it is absolutely necessary, of course. I have also tried to use rocks for making the "finetuning" instead of reworking the terrain and having the risk of not being able to put the water back in.

As much as I like the animal talks, I have fired my educator for the time being. I'd really like to see some guideline/tutorial about how to set up their workzones. Because the one I had missed his talks even though he only had two per year. Also. wenn the talk started, there was a real pilgrimage of guests towards that enclosure, so I believe there should be more at once in order to equally distribute the guests. They are also littering quite a lot when they crowd that much.

I just spend the whole day playing in my new franchise zoo and I must say I like the mode more than I had expected. I was able to sell my first penguins for conservation credits and finally added the seals. They are so gorgeous! They are definitely clipping through rocks and barriers a lot more than the other new animals, but I just love how they look and move. So adorable and probably one of my favourite animals right now. I'm now trying to get my finances stable and decorate the zoo with some buildings. Later on, I want to make a smaller enclosure with dall sheep and llamas.

I've had this Problem too at the Beginning. If you decide to use a Educator again, try to place a Staff-Room so that every Enclosure is approximately in the same Distance from it. The Problem with them is that they don't run when they are late🙁

I've had some Bugs with the Seals that made it look like they're doing Tricks 😂
