What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I have to confess something.
Maybe, just maybe the oceania craze did get me a little bit, just a teeny tiny bit.
And the fact that im living next to one of the few places with a full blown australia area didnt help.
Sooooooo....
Lets just say, my filler emu and wallaby habitat are gonna be extended to an entire mini area.
I wanted to make an elevated viewpoint in my zoo for a while, and guess this is my time to do it, as you can see with the nice and elevated building in the back ground.
australiahouse.jpeg

Currently i only worked on the main viewing area, but the area below thats currently without walls will be a staff area. Idk how realistic it is that i put a food kitchen into every second building, but you all cant stop me, backstage building is fun and a treat, even if they are still all on my to do list, cause making what the guests are suppoused to see pretty is the priority.
Inside the viewing gallery i messed around with the indonesian roof and its really fun, even if ending it is a chore. Im currently very happy with how the left side looks, only needing a few more decoratin with flower pots, benches and trash cans, but the latter propaply wont be a thing till i get free build as they are path restricted and i do not see how putting a path through this will be in any way shape or form fun. Ps. Frontier freely placeable benches and stuff pls.
This main viewing gallery also isnt closed up and open air, while the holding of the koalas, quokkas aka brush tailed bettong stand ins and currently still wombats that i will also give a seperate of viewing shelter in this building, will be enclosed with a glass roof like a tiny greenhouse. Its also just the right size for the eucalyptus feeder to fit in perfectly.
australiahouse2.jpeg

This side will also be indoors for the guests, eventhough i will have to move my pretty palms then. So far i havent really used flowerpots so i want to live this place up with many plants, only using potted plants, so that will be fun!
australiahouse3.jpeg

Lastly, when you look outside of the windows, this is the view, primarly showing the emus and wallabys, which also means it will force me to complete the decoration around there habitat for a nice view, making me finally finish this area a little more, same with my tropical house entrance seen in the other pic with the goal for the remaining year being to mostly finish up this section of the zoo as my heart piece of quality controll. Never thought that my first really great area would be for australian animals, but i take it.
australiahouse1.jpeg

And thats it for now, maybe im also gonna put in a tassie habitat or a birb WE, cause admitedly ive been dying for lorikeets or budgies, but we can only wait and see if we will actually get those.

Upgraded my system from mac to PC and it’s looking good! Now I can open OakWood Zoo and actually map things out once again. Did some touch ups to the Oceania section, now that I have a bit more room to work with I will be adding the Tasmanian Devil and the Quokka to the zoo (and the little/African penguins but we’re already working on that).
Also wrong thread, this is what did you do in planet zoo today, not for your irl zoo photos.

Seriously though, big compliment on both the game and builder, the first one especally i wouldnt blame anyone for thinking that its a real picture

Do you have a video with a tour of Oakwood? I would love to see one!

My most recent one was quite a bit ago, all the way back in April.

I am planning to do another one soon, now that I have access to the park again I can start adding pieces from the last 4 months back in. That'll take some time though, I also wanna just add the 3 remaining animals to the Oceania section, so next tour video will be probably in 2 weeks or so.

Well well, i did some more work on my australia house and lets just say i quite like it.
First up, i actually hooked it up to the paths and it was way less tedious then i assumed it would be, even with the path being a bit wonky at the transition.
But that isnt the real thing i wanted to show you.

This is. The mostly complete inner viewing gallery of the shelter of the koalas and quokkas. Id say it turned out great, way better then i hoped for!
I just wish the traverseable area was better, but thats the usual problem of the game, the conflict of building pretty and keeping the traverseable area in mind.
Quite annoying but is how it is.

Ive been a busy bee, so now the australia house is mostly finished with only doors and some indoor decorating missing.
But most importantly the koalas and quokkas outdoor enclosure is finished, and id say its unlike any other ive seen so far!
Atleast i havent seen anyone building a lakeside koala habitat so far and i gotta say i think it looks great!

Also first one to guess what fence piece i used gets to choose an animal for my zoo, lets see who will know it first ^^

I can also confirm that the koalas gave me 0 trouble regarding climbing and of my 3 koalas theres allways atleast one in the trees, which is quite nice.
Or atleast at them, as you can see this goofy goober still has a lot to learn regarding the whole "verticality" thing
koala3.jpeg

Meanwhile this handsome little man shows him how its done, sitting on the same tree and looking just the cutest. Gotta say after my first time using them they won me over. While i so far didnt really care that we got koalas in the game, now i really appreciate them and must say that by now frontier really has done a great job with them.
Working on their little house was a ton of fun and i cant wait to keep going and hopefully keep the pace and quality up to my current rather high personal standard.
I feel like i improved alot and im finally at the point where i can just do and will make something good looking if i put enough time and care into it, not stressing anymore if something was possible or trying things and getting frustrated when they didnt work. In some ways i got less ambitious, in other ways much more as ive learned when to conform to the easier ways and when to actually try my own things and especally grown much more compfortable with more pieces with especally the conservation theme really rising in my favor as my new go to pieces to handle any job.

Made some good progress these last few days. Unfortunately I won't be able to play for a few months. Hopefully when I come back in December there will be exciting new stuff !

I think I made a mistake with the plant selection in this Zoo. Learned a lot on the proper use of grassland / tropical and desert foliage but I kind of feel like starting over.

Sharing this even if it is unfinished because I will most likely be starting a new Zoo when I will come back, to make something I can be happier about, while going through the process of getting back into a creative mindset.

It looks very nice, but I'm confused: what do mean about the plants? I have no green thumb, that's why I'm curious

The fence is the Australian Education Sign Holder thingy!

Oof, this is a tough one.

I’m gonna go with the Cougar. They’re just so cool and I would like to see a habitat for one by You!
Damn by me? Allmost sounds like im kind of a big deal!
Havent used them yet, so that will be fun, question is just where im gonna fit them as the current loose ends of my zoo are asia, africa, africa again and water, but i guess i could add a small SA section behind the tropical house with lamas and cougars, that does sound quite dapper

I like your building style. It’s very themed and interesting!

It looks very nice, but I'm confused: what do mean about the plants? I have no green thumb, that's why I'm curious

For my palette I chose a mix of desert and grassland plants. Specifically, the "Creosote" (I think) bushes and elephant grass. You can't really see this in the pictures I shared but when I look at the views from the path something about the mix of these two plants feels wrong to me. It's more a matter of instinct, but something along the lines of "these two plants do not belong together".

I have an older Taiga Zoo where I like the feel of the nature much more. Even if Taiga plants need a lift-up in PZ (in my view), I do not get the same feeling there and this is what I am trying to emulate.

Thanks a lot for asking the question though, because looking at the pictures I realise that what I like in the Taiga zoo is the consitent light green undergrowth, and the darker shades in the trees. It's this lack of consistency in the Desert zoo that bugs me. I am glad I started to share here, just interacting like this made me realise something important.

Yeah I find that aswell. Building natural taiga areas feels much more consistent with only a few kinds of foliage to bring out the atmosphere one would expect. I could add a couple bushes or half sunken trees, cover with long grass and it feels right.

While desert and grassland areas require detailed knowledge of what plants work well together, at times I can use up to 10 different plants to really bring out a grasslands/desert garden like area where it seems diversity of foliage is the key. For a typical garden I could be looking at a palette of say buffalo grass, drinn grass, century plant, Creosote Bush, Crimson turkey Bush, sage Bush, triodia grass, spiny headed mat rush, and nitraria retusa bush.
