What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I have decided to pause my NZ zoo for a couple of reasons. One is that there are tonnes of animals I have still not built for. The other is that I have pretty much every species bar one or two that I need for the NZ zoo so it feels right for a post end of support project.

In the meantime, I decided to set myself a challenge of building mostly for animals I still haven't placed in any zoos. I used a random number generator to decide that I should build habitats for 42 species with a deadline of new year's day. So fingers crossed I can do it.

The first animal I chose is the fossa. The mesh is quite hard to work with and I think I probably need some kind of wooden support frame for the roof but for less than two hours work I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

I was trying to get some good shots of the kiwi for a thumbnail and wow, its impossible to take a bad picture of them! So cute! Also sorry I know Ive posted a lot here today lol)

Of course I couldnt take pictures of the ones in the exhibit cause they all died right away cause the keepers do jack sh*t when I ask them to do something which is so mind numbingly frustrating. They literally comment "the kiwi habitat is dirty, it needs cleaning." SO CLEAN IT THEN DONT JUST WANDER AROUND WHY AM I PAYING YOU????:mad::mad:

Yesterday I started with the hugh backstage-staff-area. I've build the office building and the workshop/animal delivery.
All of the buildings were built from old discarded shipping containers.
Next is the animal clinic, the greenhouses and the stables for the food animals (the predators in the zoo also want to eat something and they certainly won't be satisfied with a carrot)

The last inhabitants of Marsupial road are here: koalas! I'm quite happy with this habitat because I did something different to what I usually do, but it's very hard to take nice screenshots of it. It's a three-part habitat for separating the animals when needed and it has an elevated path so that people see better the koalas in the trees.

The good thing is that koalas can also climb the pines. Can you spot it?

Finally, it’s starting to look like an actual zoo 😁

And now it’s time for the final piece of Oceania, while the Kiwi was the last new animal in the section I do want to redo the Wallaby and Kangaroo enclosure and add a bit more to the Wombats as well.

Also anyone know how I could use this enclosure in OakWood? It’s from my children’s zoo submission but I really like it,

keep in mind we already got armadillo, skunks, prairie dogs and red foxes.

My best idea is to add Aardvarks, take out the shed and replace it with a dark nocturnal modern building, cause it’s a bit too old and rustic for my liking. But I would love any other suggestions 😄

If your going for realism aardvarks might not be an ideal choice. They dig alot and i doubt the enclosure for them would look this nice and lush even after a couple days.
On the other hand i dont really have an idea on what else to put there.
Maybe keep it as an implied exhibit for now?

Add some climbing structures and that’d be a solid Gray Fox habitat! 😂

No but seriously. Badger maybe?

Ive seen a couple open air enclosures for native snakes, namely european adders and ringneck snakes, lately and they looked pretty similar, maybe that could be an idea. Maybe you could repurpose the shed for a display of local reptiles and amphibians and put the newt and salamander ( or bullfrog, turtle if the zoo is in NA ) in there

I think I’ll delete the shed tbh, I like the idea of the exhibits but the shed is too rustic and old for the style of the zoo. I’m gonna wait until we get the anniversary animal, maybe it’ll be a small animal that can fit.

Fair enough. But i could also see the rustic vibe being turned up intentionally to theme it as a old abandoned hut near a pond or lake: You know a place where you could stumble upon a salamander. Maybe you could even really do a pond next to it, in the hope that we might get ducks some day :D
