What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Started working on a giant otter habitat in my newly started tropical biome zoo. The water area is long, narrow, and curves through the terrain to mimic a rainforest river.

Welp i did it again. My lions got another addition to their habitat with a seperateable second habitat with its own outdoor area and indoor holding thats connected to the main habitat through the pathway on the left. My lions now sport with 4021 m^2 of traversable area a habitat allmost as large as the mixed savannah habitat in the background and exeding their requirements ~4 times. The idear is that if a lioness has her cubs she and the babys could be seperated here, something often seen with large cat enclosures. Another idear im playing with is actually taking the space away as a standalone habitat for 2 striped hyenas. My favorite zoo has their habitats for lions and spotted hyenas connected in a similar way and lets them explore the outdoor habitat of the other from time to time, enritching both species in trying to mark and "reclaim" their territory from the other species in an ongoing war of scent marks. Dunnu if im actually gonna do that as i also like the seperation possibilitys just for lion management so we will see. Still gotta do a seperate keeper acess point and a more effective guest barrier, but mostly im quite pleased how it looks so far.

Another shot from above does show well the size of the habitat, featuring 5 different viewing galleries and lots of space for my pride of 4 to enjoy their time. They even use pretty much all of the space, even if the new habitat + the shelter would have been enough to cover their needs, but hey who doesnt love a big ass bonus area to call your home?

Today I remade my petting zoo in my NA zoo.
There was a void section that I added my petting zoo that fit in between food court and the “New England” section which has viewing platforms for moose, beavers and gray seals. The line to get to the New England section has a line to take you to the petting zoo and the area was getting flooded by guests. It got so bad that I had to move the petting zoo closer to my welcome center and my Florida/Hawaii section. Don’t love the location but at least the crowds are easier to manage. I still don’t like how guests overwhelm the petting zoo areas.

Finally got around to adding the last new 'A' animal to my Alphabet Zoo (A) - Alpine Goat.
It runs at around 20fps even when paused rofl.
Outside of wanting the animals to age up/breed etc I usually play paused so I have an easier time managing the 200+ animals and building.

I guess your Alphabet will start and end with A then.
Nah, I tried a single zoo right at the beginning ( it's sitting on standby for animal supplies ) . The Alphabet Zoo is actually a group of Zoos I started when I realised I wouldn't be able to get them in one zoo ( to my standard at least ). With roughly 15-20 species. Some letters have their own zoos. Some are grouped with others. B, C and S are solo zoos, DEF, GHI, JKL, MNO, PQR and T-Z are all multi letter zoos.

Correction: MN, OPQ are multi with R being a solo. I thought PQR sounded weird in my mind rofl.

I'll probably split the solo zoos up into multiple zoos of their own to make them playable for more than a few moments at a time rofl.

While browsing the work shop I came up with scenic pieces for my barnyard. I realized I can always add a section for a duck pond and a horse stable.
I tried making a duck pond but idk I’m not satisfied with it, some workshop duck ponds just didn’t cut it for me.
I really hope ponies will be added one day.
I want to do something with certain barn animals for each of my zoos. My zoos highlight certain barnyard animals depending on their regional representation.
The highlight of my NA zoo is my donkeys as they are an NA species.
The highlight of my SA zoo is my alpacas, I made a very large enclosure for llamas so they can share with their cousins.
The highlight of my Asian zoo is my pigs and chickens.
The highlight of my EU zoo is my goats chickens and cattle (while majority are European I feel these are the best reps).
The highlight of my AU zoo is my sheep and cattle, noting the sheep farms of Australia.
I’d like to make my peafowl habitat accessible for my Indian zoo.

I finished the Giant Otter habitat today and christened it Otter Oasis compete with Otter Talk. It’s kinda shaped like a bone. Wide ends with land and a narrow middle that only has water to ensure the underwater viewing area is the only way to get from side to side. The hard shelters and bedding are on the land mass opposite the keeper gate land mass to ensure they go back and forth for food and to sleep, that way the water is always occupied to keep the guests happy and donating. Originally I put 2 Bairds Tapir in with the otters but it got overcrowded so I had to make a second habitat next door. That ended up becoming a shared habitat for the Bairds Tapir, Galapagos giant tortoise, collard peccary, and Capybara. Their raised viewing area ended up being the perfect place to add a lookout gallery into the second otter land mass, which was previously not viewable to guests.

Today I started a virtual renovation of my city's zoo. First up is the Tropical Asia area, where the habitats of Malayan tapirs and greater one-horned rhinos are the first course. (PS: Actually, Javan rhinos or Sumatran rhinos are more suitable for this exhibition area)View attachment 396118View attachment 396120View attachment 396121View attachment 396122View attachment 396126View attachment 396125View attachment 396131View attachment 396128View attachment 396132View attachment 396130

Malayan tapirs have become such a delight to see in this kind of posts, since they were revamped to their real glory... Before, they were very rare and a pain to the sight...

Well, my very full and happily breeding Alphabet Zoo Series animals aren't helping my storage limits ( at 195 give or take at the moment rofl )

So, thought I would see about starting my World Zoo Series of zoos. I mentioned it in this thread ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...-has-every-animal.625116/page-2#post-10372052 ) And included some example biome map images showing potential segments to use as zoos.

First one .. Southern Portion of South America
I started off by extracting the biome map section I was looking at
I then used google maps to grab a terrain overview of the same area to give me an idea of mountains and such.
And then finally, turned it into a heightmap image.
Imported into a new zoo as the base heightmap and realised I need to rotate 180 degrees to get the entrance where the land is.
It's obviously higher than what it should be, but I wanted to have clear variance in the areas. It can always be smoothed down where needed.
The animals for this huge zoo ?
Cougar in the green section at the top - one or more habitats
Alpaca down the yellow and int the green at the bottom ( walkthrough habitat or 2 )
King Penguin in the waters around the Falkland Isles ( which I will need to move over a bit to not be too close the main land ).
They're the only animals showing in this part of the map in game so good enough for me.
Of course these animals aren't ones I have problems with so I might not play this zoo yet. But, while I was looking through the animal list I saw quite a few more appear in the north central part of South America and less water. So may do that next and hopefully those animals will help thin my storage out a bit.

Rotated the heightmap 180 degrees and moved The Falklands out a bit more. And looks great. Will need to smooth things down to reflect where the entrance sits ( at the top centre just behind the stone pillar rofl.
Water will definitely be an issue though. Went down to 11fps and lower going up 3 layers. So, assuming the main issue is the depth in this case, I will see how deep I need to make it and fill the land back up to reflect that ( probably via the heightmap to save costs of course rofl )
.

Yesterday I did build an enclosure for the polar bears.

We all know, build a habitat for polar is not that easy because of the size the habitat needs to be. This one is still slightly to small, but I didnt want to build it bigger, because I did not have any ideas left. I think it is pretty empty…
what do you think about this habitat? I am still very unsure.
