Well, did some in depth poking around on my big franchise zoo. If I sell all spare animals, instead of releasing to wild, I can still turn a profit, flipping a deficit of 50k a year to a net gain of 11k. The negative in the year just prior is because I accidentally unpaused on the 31st of Dec before selling the spare animals collected over the year. Only new stuff I have added since whenever I last worked on this were Old world swallowtail, European peacock butterfly, Danube crested newt, and Fire Salamander. I found that the Monarch and Cloudless sulphur population had some how collapsed, so I restarted them, and hopefully with them, and the exhibit animals, along with catching up on animal research, might help get me back in the black without selling every spare animal. I might have a decent stock of anniversary event animals, and cc credits, but I can't pay staff with those.
Barring that, I'll need to continue expanding my India and Central/South America sections since I have extra entrances in those areas, as well as finish North Africa, and my Europe sections. Still leaves SE Asia, Oceania, the Serengeti and Central Africa sections to eventually plan if I can get the zoo to turn a profit again consistently. Barring that, I may have to in depth go over every single food and gift stand and every item within to raise prices where I can.
For an interesting comparison, my IRL local zoo, Oregon Zoo, is about 259,014. So I'm at about half that in size, and much less in species diversity and animal count, but most of those aren't on display anyways.
