Haven't played the game in a couple weeks, but I've been doing a lot of map-making in the meantime 😅 I feel like I do more planning for my zoos than actually building them sometimes. I'll be using this map in the actual zoo for my map displays, so it technically counts as something I did for the game today I suppose 🤫
Great looking map! Where have you gotten the animal images from, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you! I mainly pulled the images from various San Diego Zoo map pdfs, cropping screenshots and removing the backgrounds with this site: https://www.remove.bg/upload
Then I slap em all on a Google Slide. I believe the main person who designs the maps is someone named Martin Schwartz (his site here: https://post54a8.myportfolio.com/san-diego-zoo) and I've also pulled from some of the images on there since they're in higher definition. All just for fun of course.

Thanks for the reply! I've always wanted to try my hands at designing my own maps, but a near-complete lack of Photoshop skills doesn't exactly work in my favor on that regard.

My personal recommendation for making custom zoo maps is actually Google Slides! I find it to be very user-friendly and easy to use, it's what I made that zoo map with in addition to several custom education boards for my zoo, here's one for Clouded Leopards I made a while back (definitely could use some updating imo):

It of course has far less options and tools compared to photoshop, I assume, but for fitting images, text, and shapes together it's the best thing I've used, plus it's free 😄
How did you make this map? It looks amazing.
Thank you! As I said above, I compiled a bunch of animal icons cut out from various real zoo maps onto a Google Slide.
Each icon has a white drop shadow (100% opacity, 12px blur radius) to give them emphasis from the background, any labels or text has a black drop shadow (also 100% opacity, 12px blur radius) for contrast with the icons. The colored boxes on the sides were made with the shapes tool, and the colored blobs indicating the different zones were made with the line tool, specifically the curved line tool. I've also uploaded a screenshot of my zoo from above so I can plan it all out with accuracy.

Ok, we're back at Montego Bay Zoo! This time, we go from the green South American paradise to the rocky deserts of North America:

It's not huge or particularly impressive, but I felt like having a little section would've been a nice clash (plus, I wanted to use ALL the Americas pack animals. Now I have)

Here's the sign:

Didn't know what to call it. North American Desert felt lame...

Here's the big centerpiece, the coyotes:

Not very decorated, but it's meant to replicate an open, dry area for them to live.

Behind them, the mixed habitat featuring prairie dogs and sheep:

I think it came out good, and since I lowered it, the sheep use the climbing rock at the perfect level. For effect, I added this little cage to prevent the animals from venturing close to the guests near the ramp where the keeper gate is:

All in all, not too shabby.

And finally, here are the armadillos:

I think it's nice, but I'm always welcome for feedback and tips (the monetary tips, not advice)

So, since there's not a whole ton of detail here, some closeups of the animals:

The coyote pups are Bobby and Bonnie. I was gonna name the Bonnie and Clyde, but I was thinking of King of the Hill and went with Bobby instead...

And finally, here's a little desert garden in between the sheep and coyotes:

(Part 2)

So, here's the layout so far:

It's getting there. I made a custom tropical stamp, which is highlighted here:

This is working wonders for me to put a backdrop behind the scenes to make it look immersive...

And here's the new plaza:

Those weird planks behind the buildings are meant to serve as like barrels and supplies (like real restaurants). I'm not done yet. I'm more concerned that GUESTS WON'T USE PICNIC TABLES:

Ok, that is all. Not sure where to head to next, but I bet it'll be a blast!

Visiting ZooMiami gave me a hankering to start a new tropical zoo. In the very beginning stages of Kapok Ridge Zoological Park. So far all
I have are 3 habitats and the entrance but I’m starting with sharing the Jaguar habitat.

I used the in-game South America pack large shelter to be a multi-purpose structure. It’s my favorite in-game blueprint because it’s so large and versatile. It’s being used a shelter, an elevated viewing platform, and has information and souvenir shops.

The habitat has a main level, and a lower level cave for the Jags to sleep in that is on the same level and around the corner from the underwater viewing window. There’s an elevated catwalk that extends over the guests pathways, the beginning of my homage to Jacksonville Zoo’s Land of the Tiger habitat. I will be attempting a new full recreation of that habitat further into the center of the zoo later on.

I love how the catwalk looks atop the rocky ledge

I was getting a little frustrated since the Jaguars weren’t using it at all…..but then….

We had a successful crossing! Can’t wait to develop it further.

I have gotten some more nights of work in the game and made little steps of progress with the elephant area. Taking a lot of inspiration from Singapore Zoo as always, I'm making a wooden walkway to a kind of arena. I'm getting lots of ideas for this habitat at the moment, so I think I'll expand it quite a bit.

Whenever I feel happy with my zoos I look at this thread and remember what a great zoo actually looks like.
