What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Today I'd like to share with you what I've been working on since yesterday morning. This is very a much a WIP so if you spot blank areas without foliage etc, that is why. This is the beginning of the "Southeast Asia and the Islands" trail at my sandbox zoo, Seapines Zoological Park, which is set in South Carolina, USA. This is a picture to the entrance to the trail, subject to change. Ignore the lemur habitat, it's just a habitat that acts as a centerpiece to the park, which splits off into other areas, such as this one, or eventually Africa.

You did all that since yesterday?! Looks absolutely fantastic, so many details! I love your custom fences and your rock and foliage work!

I played around with the indoor area for the binturongs and added a roof. Other than that, I was mostly watching the animals today. Both the sun bear and the binturongs hat babies and they are ADORABLEEEE!

Unfortunately, since I'm going to visit my parents, tomorrow will be my last day with my gaming computer for one week. I might use the free time to create some billboards or maybe even a logo for the zoo. And after that, I need to fake an aquarium :D

Thanks everyone!

@darthquell The binturongs are on their way! Just have to quarantine first!

@Lea_G Thank you!

@FoxyDee I definitely will, I'm just going to wait until the entire trail is done before I do.

I'm currently not happy with how that cave turned out, so before I develop the trail further I'm tearing it down and combining/replacing it with something I had planned to do further along. Stay tuned through the weekend (hopefully) to find out what!

Sneaked in a loooong session, where I built a shared habitat for Binturongs and Sun Bears and added a pair of Malayan Tapir to my Orang Utan habitat all in Unity. Don't know if I'll add more SEA animals to Unity. Maybe dholes. Not sure yet. But I guess most if not all SEA animals will sooner or later find their way in one of my other zoos.
Also did some house keeping in Unity, Boy, big zoos with welfare on can be stressful sometimes. I felt I lost track about breeding in several habitats. I used to make notes a while back, but forgot about it for weeks now.

Just tried a few minutes career again. I can't do this XD Not that I'm not able to, it's just not fun. I wonder what was different for me with JWE. There I mostly enjoyed.

To me that seems pretty clear. The "carreer" mode was embedded in the open ended game. We started on a blank canvas, the first island with nothing more than the entrance, had absolute creative freedom how to build the park (except for yet not unlocked buildings/clones/modifiers) and generic objectives to progress further in the "story" untill we unlocked the next island and then started over there again.

And you always could (and sometimes had to) revisit older parks because your overall progression was linked between all islands. After a certain point the initially more story driven part ended on every island and it basically became a free play/sandbox mode. You never had to switch between entire modes, just do the stuff you had to do anyway and then got 5 linked islands in the end that could be used however you wanted.

I've never been a fan of strictly split story content with narrow objectives in games that due to their nature are naturally not the best platforms to tell stories (What kind of intense story can be telled in a game where you spend 80% of the time floating in mid air and your actions are limited to where you put stuff at?). On top of that, if you are someone who really likes to express creativity and want to put your stamp on everything, why wasting time on a canvas that someone else already painted on so it was and will never be truly "yours" to begin with.

I wish they integrated the story parks or fragments of it in the franchise and challenge modes (in a similar fashion to JWE), altough the challenge mode unfortunately never received the same functionality as the franchise mode.

I've made a lot of Progress in the Aquarium Building of my still nameless Zoo. Due to the big Area that is needed between 2 Paths to place them above each other, I've just built the upper Path and the Stairs out of Floor Pieces, Ramps and Rocks. It looks great. I've also mostly finished the Penguin Enclosure and fixed a Problem with the Entrance that will lead to the tropical Dome. I've also made a perfect Screenshot of a escaped Seal

Hey everyone, I've decided to build a DLC-only zoo with animals from each pack. I wasn't sure which biome to go for but ended up choosing the temperate European map and I've been building a castle structure that will be surrounded by a moat, inspired by my memories of castles and National Trust locations I've been to here in the UK. It serves as the zoo entrance with walkways on two balconies that frame a central courtyard.
But then I became tempted to put peafowls in the courtyard, breaking my DLC-only rule, because I thought they would look great wandering around. This of course completely broke my fountain as guests started to walk through it and the benches too, trying to get a good view of the animals.

What do you all think I should do? What's pleasing to you? Keep it DLC only? Get rid of the fountain? Don't put the peafowls in the courtyard but get rid of the fountain anyway? Feedback is definitely welcome :D

^ Could just put some benches in the inner side of those circles of flowers...

That is a very thoughtful post and you are right. I agree with all of this. But especially the quoted part. Perfect metaphor for it. Yes, I absolutely do struggle to work with someone elses work. Even in the zoos of my faveourite YouTubers, which I followed right from the start through their videos, I can only visit for a moment, but could never actually play it or expand it myself. I don't feel comfortable working with someone elses "art".

An elephant enclosure is slowly taking form. I don't have a full plan for it, but just building it as the African area is taking form. I believe this will be the main viewing area for the females' enclosure. On the right there is a small platform for educational speaks and the start of a nature track, which will partly follow the elephants large area as well.

True. When my zoos reach a certain size, I always select only the very promising species to breed and keep the others on contraceptives.

Very well spoken, same for me. I like the timed scenarios more, because they are more like "beating the game" instead of an artificial story. I didn't really like the carreer mode.

Wow, that is super beautiful! The front reminds me of Hever Castle, although I sadly haven't visited it yet. I would get rid of the fountain, put some benches and/or maybe a small statue in the centre and keep the peafowls.

And I just couldn't resist... I had to throw together a little logo and check what it looks like in game :D

Fountain has been moved and I'll keep it nice and spacious in the courtyard :)

Still considering the peafowl situation...Easy to keep em in that area by putting impassable plants underneath the paths but I really need to get guests outta that area, so we'll see. Thank you for your input :)

Yesterday I worked some more on the entrance area of Bookland and deleted the zebra/gazelle habitat. The scale drove me nuts, with the huge building and small animals.
Rebuild the gazelle habitat (hope it stays that way now) and needed forever to build a plastered moat. It's still not how I would have want it, but it'll do I guess.
It's ridiculous that I care for realistic habitat safety while building a zoo with a rather fantasy-like concept.

Work in Progress Elephant House:

Did I have a good time making this? Not really no, but I am getting close to a resultat I feel kind of satisfied with. Still need some work on the inside, and mostly detailing on the outside. I might change some of the wall types at one point. It ended up being a lot of breeze blocks. Balancing creativity with realism has been quite a challenge with this build. Even more so because of terrain work.

Edit: why does Instagram think it needs to cut the Edges when I want multiple Pictures in one Post? The People there should also be able to see it in all its Glory without me needing to create 8 separate Posts😑
Would like to check out your Instagram and perhaps follow, if it is open to public
