What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I added the beautiful tigers to my Port Royal Zoo

Screw plans!
Finishing asia?
Nah bro i build 2 (3) habitats and do arctic!
Finish arctic?
Nah bro i build 1 and a half habitats and go to the entrance!
Entrance?
Hell yeah, i demolished my big, ugly not really anything but a bunch of boxes staff area and build a new one, integrating an old okay flamingo exhibit and expanding on my aardwarks.
Right now i have also added an aviary and started some work on a sable antelope habitat conected to the complex.
But first, lets add a little overview over my entire zoo.
For the work zones, the bottom left is asia, about half done with the colored markings being plans for my new exhibits. On the top we have arctic, 2/3 done. Top right the forresty area is southamerica, just having one habitat and a bit of decorating left to be done, but i dont really have an idear how to do it so thats left open for now.
Bottom right is africa, with 3 habitats done, one needing a major overhaul (the big one) one needing some work detailing (should be maybe an hour) and to the right of the way i want to build 1-3 more habitats, i havent decided on what exactly i put there yet, but i kinda wanna do giraffes and penguins. If you guys have any idears, pls tell me, right no their are nyalas, implied one for goats and watussi cattle, wild dogs, meerkats, warthogs aardwarks and now sable antelopes.
But the exciting part is that hole in the middle and the bottom.
Its the "historical" part of my zoo, with the lower part being partly destroyed to build an entrance building the next days.

But now for the actual habitas, we first have the og, one and only first habitat i have ever build, the aardwarks.
Its really nothing special, but i kinda like the simple look, so i simple expanded it with the area in the foreground and gave them a stable.
overview 2.jpeg

The other habitat i build today is a small aviariy for an asian pheasant (in my brain its the golden, but if we get any more pheaseants, whatever it will be will be put in here) and some smaller flying birds. Alternativly this could also be quite nice for a small mammal like a civet, fishing cat or a muntjak, that actually could have some birds with it.
I tried to make it look like an older classical aviary and i think i succeeded.
For now, its the living ground of 2 female peacocks, living out their older days away from the males and annoying loud tropical house, were the rest is held in.
overview 4.jpeg

Between the two exhibits i build a little memorial with informations about the long history of the zoo.
This also marks the first time i build my own sign and i quite like it, even though building them is a little pain. I cant imagine how some of the signs in the workshop came to be.
Im gonna try to get better at it and maybe find out how to do even smaller signs, so that i can spread them around my whoule zoo.
overview 3.jpeg

And thats it! I hope you liked my progress of the day and my zoo in general. Also, pls help me i have no clue what asian animal to use for the spot in the background of the last picture. Right now im unsure between an implied habitat for blackbucks or an asian deer like the axis or sika deer, or just using the cassowary, letting the first australian animal into my zoo. Maybe im gonna do none of that, who knows? I just hope im actually gonna finish the sable antelopes tomorrow and not just spread to somewhere else, eventhough i and my old art teacher both believe an unfocused scatterbrain to bring the best, even if uncoordinated and unpredictable results.

Today I got pack to my Alhambra project after a long time procrastinating my next building task (which is a tedious one).
I've started the interior of the palace you see in the background of this pic:

This is beautiful. You are honestly one of the best builders, be proud of yourself! Give yourself a pat on the back and just marble at this beauty

I am totally not addicted and i totally did not do two more exhibits today.
Oops.
Well but now that i have done them, the sable antelopes and wilddogs are living way nicer!

Starting with the sableantelope, their habitat is simple, but i like it, eventhough the custom fence was a pain. I was somewhat inspired by their habitat in thezoo berlin, and why not even close to a recreation i mostly took inspiration for the fence and just how lush it was.

My favourite part of the habitat is this little spot with a nice overview of the habitat. I saw a bunch of these little niches in my last 2 zoo visits and want to incorperate them a lot more in my builds.

For my doggos i did some detailing, but honestly, i really feel like theres something missing. I do like it but it feels incomplete.

And lastly as a treat, i love my dogs. Most of the time they walk around as a group and i just love it.
Look at them patroul the upper part of their habitat, just adorable.

More work on my current Franchise - now up to 9 habitats, added in the second North American themed habitat (another circle ha) for the Grizzlies (far left). Was worried about the habitat size, and while it's a tighter fit than the others, it still does work. I also added in my koala habitat since the last time I shared, on the far right. I also made a shop shell for the New World theme, but I'm not that great of a designer, so it's just going to be for me for now.

Next up, I need to hold off on adding anything else except maybe Kangaroos, for several reasons: 1) I need to work on beautifying my zoo with more natural elements. 2) they're going to be Lions, Giraffes and Elephants that need more space and 3) they also need more money, so I need to plan better how to finance it. Giraffes will probably be first of the three since they're not quite as expensive, but I'll still be holding off.

I struggle with building and I struggle with making things nice looking, especially when it comes to nature. A lot of times I get so involved in being sure I'm financially set for the animals, that I get the animals and make their habitats acceptable and just move on. I go back and look at the animals but I don't spend a lot of time redecorating once they're in the happy welfare part. I'm really hoping that'll change here, and inspire me to go back and beautify some past franchises. As far as building, I've accepted I'll probably always struggle to an extent but will get better with time.

Currently prepping a new franchise zoo for next week's elephant breeding challenge. I called it "PachyDorm Fraternity" in honor of all the folks going back to college at this time of year.

Because they're expensive to feed, I won't put the elephants in until the challenge is closer. For now, I'm prepping shops, exhibits, and smaller habitats to build up money, training up staff, and generally trying to get everything functioning well so that I can focus on the elephants next week.

Having a good time with my Asian project. Playing around with the binturongs for the first time, and they are fun!

While all my climbing structures within the enclosure are useable by the animals more or less as intended from the start, the structure going above the guest area is tricky.
Most of the bamboo poles are accessible for climbing, but they are not able to move on to the round platforms. Even when I delete the beams going through them nothing happens. I have tried several things with them now, but I might have to redesign them completely.

(By the way, there is a binturong hanging around in this picture)

Today i faced that sad reality, that my zoo is big, maybe to big for my pc to handle.
I will try aggain when my pc cooled of a bit and without visitors, hopefully then the performance of my pc wont cook me alive when i sit next to it.
Wish me luck
I'm about to face the same problem too, I'm afraid. Sad because I don't want to compromise the detailing.
Meanwhile,

Then i hope that you have more luck then i have. Sadly the stability is not really there, so i decided to start my new project planned for the end of the month earlier.
I allready started a bit on terraforming and doing the thing i dread the most, the entrance.
Scary i know right?
Anyways right now im still taking suggestions in my thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/choose-some-animals-for-me.588276/ for which animals i will put in my zoo and will post the updates mostly in a new thread that i start when i have some actual progress to show of.
The improvement in the game is extreme and it honestly was way more fun to play with the more smooth and less hot version of the game.
Just sad about my zoo that i couldnt finish it, but oh well, lesson learned.
40+ animal zoos sadly are nothing that my pc can handle to well

As I play sandbox I will play with no visitors for now, but I know more sooner than later the project will become unplayable anyway.

Btw, I finally made some progress on the central palace. It was originally intended to be an education center that hosted educational animal shows in its courtyard. I scrapped that idea and tried to make a old-style bear pit but it didn't work out either so it turned into something else eventually...

Building the quarantine/vet section for marine animals certainly brought back memories from the good old ZT2 days. Marine parks always were my fav to build even back then and gotta say that hasn't changed one bit and thanks to all the amazing modders out there those tanks don't have to stay empty anymore (except for the pics here sadly) :D

It's not completely done obviously but I'm happy with where it's going, even though the paths and water are yet again a huge pain to work with

Yesterday i started my new project and this is a sneak peak into what i have allready done.
The gimmick of my zoo is that i let people from these forums choose animals for me, but spoiler, im also a person on these forums, so i started work on my own pick, the giraffe!
I allways wanted to use the giraffe as the first animal of my second zoo and here we are.
I mostly worked on the interior of the giraffe house today, putting most of my work into the sign, the fabric roof for the guest viewings and the sleeping "cages" for the giraffes, a new first as i never bothered doing them before.

I have started a new project called Autumn Falls Park. Last year I made a tiny Pumpkin Zoo (only had the Himalayan brown bear, timber wolves, and the dall sheep) and I wanted to continue this year with the same idea. AFP will be a bit bigger than last year's zoo, and it will be populated with animals that can handle colder temperatures. Wolves, bears, seals, reindeer, red panda, etc. Those kinds of animals. One of the reasons is also the upcoming DLC. Now regardless of what it's going to be, I do think it'll be filled with species that can also thrive in colder areas of the world. Most of us suspect it'll be NA/Europe, and if that turns out to be true, I think those animals will fit perfectly into my new zoo.

I am also trying something new this time. I have downloaded a color palette, and that is with autumn colors that go well together. I've put it into the giant 32m billboard so I can always check on the hex codes and combine the colors properly. I'm still learning and trying new things. I want to make it a little bit more colorful this time, but still cohesive.

WIP

Entrance. Needs much more love. I'm thinking of changing it completely. For now, it'll have to do. I'm playing in franchise so any big projects will have to wait a little bit until I earn more funds.

As you enter, you are greeted by this warm welcome sign and some peafowls. In the background, you can see the color palette.

This peafowl shelter is from the workshop, I think it looks great. I like the simplicity of the habitat, but I'll have to change the border. I don't like it much.

Onto the right is the path leading to the underwater viewing spot and animal education point of the grey seals. Their habitat is unfinished and I don't have any ideas at the moment what to do with it. They are a pain in the butt. Their traversable area is horrible.

Opposite to the grey seals is going to be the reindeer. I have started work on their shelter and some fencing.
