What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Making a timber wolf habitat based on bestiary of Warcraft 3.

This is the thing It's based on.
Please say that you're building a whole Zoo in that Style.

Started to build the Entrance for a new Attraction in Marine Center Hawaii (yes, still creative with Zoo Names) that is named Journey to the Antarctic. It will house King Penguins and (even though they aren't antarctic) the Grey Seals once they get replaced with Sealions in their current Outdoor Enclosure because the Sealions are better capable of dealing with the tropical Heat. Would be really nice to have a antarctic Seal for it.
Then I've tortured myself with contacting my Health Insurance because of Problems and my Wish to switch to another Health Insurance but I've asked if I can have this Day free and it took way less Time than I've expected (but still need to wait for a Answer for my E-Mail and need to call if they don't answer) so now I can already continue with the Construction of the Building

Edit: just found out that Tortoises are capable of using the Dingo Pool
and found out that one of my Crocodiles is 101 Years old 😯

Got to snap at least 1 pick of the new balloons. I didn't get to enjoy them that much, unfortunately

Today I finished up my Formosan Black Bear habitat:

And I also worked on some detail/rock work for my Gray Seal habitat (NOTE: I took the colorful houses from the gray seal habitat blueprint created by @SimplySavannah, so the credit for that aspect of the habitat belongs to her!):

Let me know what you guys think!
Amazing work! Both habitats are stunning! ❤️

Fantastic work there. Can I ask how you did the rock walls in the first picture? I'm not that intuitive as many people and I see these smaller creations that look great, but it's not until it's explained to me (or shared on the workshop where I subscribe so I can reverse engineer it myself) that I understand it. It's like I think "oh wow, I never even thought about doing that." Like someone had recently shared a rock wall they created by using a plaster wall piece and putting the flexicolor aquatic rocks around it. It never would have occurred to me to do that.

Thanks!
The walls I used there are the dry stone walls, and I lined them with the Arctic architecture beams for the wood trim. I then placed rocks nestled around it (taiga rocks) to fill in the gaps and make it look more natural. Does that answer your question?

It does! That doesn't sound too complex and turns out very nicely! See it's things like that, I wouldn't even know how to do unless i ask lol. Thank you so much!

I worked on the Asian area of Zarpa. We were in the Asian square with the big building housing a restaurant. Now the small long building on the side has a viewing area for Chinese pangolins!

On the other side of the square, you have a small habitat for peafowls:

@markun love your black and white ruffed lemur enclosure! May i ask, would you mind uploading the enclosure (or even just the climbing structures)? I could never build something so nice.
Adding more rocks around the moat made it escapable so I need to go back to it and see how that can be fixed.

I'm off work this week and taking my first "stay-cation" in nearly 10 years, so I've had lots of time to play the game the last few days. Jamestown Zoo enters its 42nd year with 25 habitat animals, and a fully planned expansion for 5 more, hopefully a ll done by end of week. It also has barriers set for an additional 5 animals but it's all speculative and may be a while before they are actually in the game (if at all, in some cases). Long range planning thinking of expanding another 2 habitats for the Australia area (far upper right), and putting the Bison in the big open area, left side/middle area). And...this all takes up only half the map. That's room for nearly 40 animals in just one half of the map...granted my computer will stop running before I run out of map room most likely.

I've mainly focused on the cold weather and South American sections this week. Oh, and added lights all over!! I have much to beautify all over the place as well as hiding those ugly plain facilities with some individual touches, but getting the set planned animals in has been helpful to get me to that point, so only 5 more to go before I start in on that. Never mind that my guests think I have beautiful scenery anyways, wow do I have them fooled.

Guest needs for hunger and thirst are being addressed but overall happiness has stayed above 80% the entirety of the zoo's life. Complaints about trash are decreasing (slowly). Had to hire a slew of caretakers in year 40 to finally address it fully.

Before I get to that beautifying, I'll tackle the 3 animals for Africa next (Wild Dog, Warthog and Fennec Fox). In all of this work I've been trying to be better about not making enclosures fully surrounded by pathways, so I feel like these expansions will end up looking a little more natural than the core zoo area. Another long range plan I'm thinking about, so to the right of the African food court area/below the lake, setting up a primate area, since I have zero primates in my zoo right now.

The small Tropical food court is done. Also, you can now really see how high the hilly trail is...! Imagine running up there. I'm out of breath just thinking about it, haha.

The pygmy hippo habitat is finished. There will be an underwater viewing area, topped by an above-water viewing platform. I really like how this habitat came out. It looks so green! These little hippos have super high foliage tolerance, which is great.

EDC8n0I.png

And last but not least: the tropical area so far, and what you have to look forward to :)
Buffalos on the left (I said they were done... but I feel like I want to place more foliage. I'm kinda surprised their foliage tolerance is so low).
Babirusas in the center, left of the small tropical food court. Dwarf hippos on the right of the food court.
Gharials will go next to the hippos, and will share the underwater and above water viewing areas.
The hippo and gharial viewing areas will be conjoined with a reptile and amphibian house. Here I will put 3 frogs, 2 iguanas, 2 snakes, and the Galapagos giant tortoise.
Cassowaries will be placed between the foot of the hilly trail and the large plaza next to the elephant boat ride. I'll place their enrichment on the plaza side, because the hilly trail does not lend itself well to guests stopping to watch some dino birds. It will get clogged in no time.
Now I need to think of a way to keep guests out of the negative impact radius of the water cleaning facility...

Ps. I love sharing this here! It's a big motivator to continue going :D
The Tropical house was so hard! Ah I hate building stuff. But it also does a lot to dress the place up, and I am pretty satisfied with the end result!

X9C8fII.png

It's so bushy and I love it :) Created a new river while I was at it. The Land of Giants boat ride is finally connected to the rest of the zoo!

FSVLhaQ.jpg

The last remaining thing to do for the Tropical area is the Cassowary habitat to the left. You can see where it's going to be. They need quite a lot of space, I discovered, especially if you want to breed them. 100 square meters per additional bird OR chick, and they can have up to 4 chicks. So it'll be a 900 square meter habitat.

cmsRXo0.jpg

The Hippo and Gharial viewing platform and habitats, as seen from above. I made a Gharial basking rock nearest to the platform, so people can get a good look at them above water, too. I've got 7 gharials in, and what a size difference...! Some of them are absolute units.

aLAIyrO.png

I really love these two habitats. The water is swampy, which suits both animals. The Gharials can and do deep dive.

KeQwmDW.png

The way to the underwater viewing area. The sign says 'Boshut' which is Forest hut in Dutch. The butterflies are astoundingly beautiful at night! This build uses a mix of base game wood, South American stone and thatched roof, and Arctic wood and poles.

37KKcDI.png

The underwater viewing area itself. I sank South American stone into the ground, and lined the path with rocks. I couldn't make the path align perfectly with the glass walls, so I covered it up this way. Worked pretty well, if I do say so myself. A random rock is placed in the middle as decoration.

V3Mya5h.png

The Tropical house can be entered above. It leads to the viewing Hippo and Gharial viewing platform on the left, and the Galapagos tortoise habitat to the right.

RJAKMZV.png

When you enter the building. A huge tree grows right through it, and you can take a look at it from the benches, where you can also see the river flowing underneath the building. Hippo and Gharial viewing platform to the left.
Upper left are three frog exhibits: Lehmann, red eyed tree frog, and golden poison frog.

YmL7owJ.png

Frog exhibits straight ahead. Two snakes exhibits on the left: yellow anaconda, reticulated python. Two iguana exhibits on the right: Antilles iguana, green iguana.

iYERNAr.png

Snake exhibits to the left. Iguana exhibits in center. Galapagos tortoise habitat down the path.

VljMC9Z.png

Galapagos tortoise habitat! Small and cozy, green and flowery. It was nice building something teensy for once :) It's a challenge too, because I tend to build far too large habitats.

KUqBpLr.png

And finally, an overview!
Cassowaries will go in the red area, they are up next.
The cassowaries are right next to a big food plaza where people can eat before and after they went on the boat ride, but I don't feel like building that one yet.

Instead I'll probably move to the Hilltop area in blue! There will be a small food court there, perhaps an animal on top. It will need to be something attractive to lure guests up there. It is quite a trek, after all. On the other hand, the hilly trail is narrow and small, so perhaps not. Do we have some kind of warm weather alpine animal? Dall sheep come close, but I'm not sure they can deal with the hot weather.
I'm thinking of doing an antelope habitat on the other side of the hill, that people can access through a tunnel.
The black arrow, I'm not sure. It's gonna attach to the Land of Giants, so perhaps giraffes? It is a long stretch of land though. A long and stretched habitat it is, then.

----
"New Zealand Getaway Zoo". My main challenges will be:
  • Building elephant habitats (never built for them before) and obtaining the elephant reward (breeding both species in one zoo).
  • Building an elephant boat ride (never done a boat ride before).
  • Deciding on zoo sections and how to make use of the terrain.
    • entrance area
    • tropical area
    • land of giants
    • hilltop area
  • Multiple viewing angles from all around the zoo.
  • Cool panoramashots.
  • A hilly trail that looks down over the zoo, making a beautiful view from both the top and the bottom of the zoo.

Not going to show pictures because I shared alot last night and visually not much has changed, but I added in Warthogs and Fennec Fox to Jamestown Zoo today. Also decided to just go with 31 animals before I start architecturalizing (is that a word? it is now) the facilities, and went ahead and added in the upcoming Bison habitat since the blank area of the map stood out so well. Who knows eventually I might put pronghorn in there too. So now that's four animals to do, but one from each section of North America (Bison), South America (Jaguar), Africa (African Wild Dog) and Arctic/cold area (Reindeer). Getting exciting to getting close to a spot where I can stop adding animals for a little while and work on making my zoo look better all around.
