What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

Very nice zoos everyone!

I am on a mini vacation starting today when I come home from work (yay!) so I hope I'll be able to jump back into my spooky zoo. I finally named it and it's called Fae Zoo. Since I'm going for an autumn/spooky/fairytale theme I think the name fits very well. :giggle:

As I keep saying, I have been feeling a bit fed up by the limitations of the game and the not-fit-for-purpose maps and biome system but decided today to go with my previous decision to try out a Finnish zoo using the Asian temperate map.

It’s far from perfect, not least because we can’t have snow on the ground in clear weather but I need to do something as otherwise I’ll just stagnate.

Unusually for me, I started by making a selection of buildings and fences and picking foliage before any actual landscaping or habitats.

This helps get a sense of the look and feel and how the zoo will develop. My hope is to use as few workshop blueprints as possible.

Excited to see how it develops.

I'm on the same page here. This approach is something I've always wanted to do before starting my zoos but never ended up doing it. It should be very helpful to make your zoo feel more cohesive.
Even the pro builders and plants people keep talking about this 'plant palette' selection being crucial to make a well-rounded project.

I haven't had a lot of energy so I went back to my ... very first franchise zoo which is, as you'd expect, not great. I've been slowly revamping habitats. I changed this;

I used the new bat exhibit and my 'explanation for why they look free flying is that they are technically not a zoo animal - but a wild population that lives there and, over the years, the zoo has started to take care of them as if htey were a captive pop.

With the new exhibit management system, I no longer spend all my time in this zoo dealing with bugs, instead I spend all my time dealing with the peacock explosion.

Slightly better view of the bats. I also have one albino but she stubbornly refuses to breed.

I added a gulpy spot and a place to rest along the path that leads up to the top of the hill.

Decided to open a new zoo, because my old one got to the unplayable due to lagg state. :(

So i played some Planet Entrance today. Cannot wait to finally get to enclosures, I hate building entrances, at the same time, I feel like I need to build them otherwise the zoo feels weird to me.

Ah yes the peacock explosions.
Sometimes you just need a sweet reminder why switching to sandbox was a great choice
