what do PvP players get out of attacking other....

Did I tell you about that FDL that tried to ram my DBX at Deciat? He went straight to the ground, nice fireworks ;) If today's Deciat Gankers are all of this kind...God save them!
That's one end of the scale although it's fair to say the other end of the scale is at a very different level. Best way of telling the difference is going into the systems in a PvP combat ship and see what they do when you shoot back.

If it is someone who can fly a ship they'll probably end up giving you some good build advice and flying tips after they blow you up anyway.

Well my DBX had two Railguns G5 and one Pacifier G5 as well,in fact I was waiting for him to recover from the plunge but...about the rest of all the Players I've met in Shinrarta that interdicted me, honestly they were not the best examples of flying skills and build minmaxing,I believe that real PvP players just don't bother about trying to prey on "easy targets", if they want a good fight they have their own playgrounds, meaning not going to annoy people in Deciat ;)

i was going to an engineer trying to dock. and this guy who was waiting near the dock starts firing at me inside the no fire zone. seriously no firezone where anti ship defense systems are able to attack him. after few seconds he fled by jumping obviously because he was getting lasered by authorities.

what was this guy trying to achieve?
i was clean and had no cargo. even if he did kill me he'd get nothing but bounty

perhaps just a inexperienced griefer?

You don't need to be inexperienced to just feel like doing something for the fun of it. Next time he tries it, he might just eat a rebuy.

Certainly a decline in the quality of these individuals around known hot-spots. A lot won't bother if they see your loadout is combat capable.

My guess is they were doing it for the LULz and they were in close to the station because they thought they could cheap-shot you before docking. I would have mocked them on the system wide comms.. but thats me.

Do not ask why the viper strikes, that's just its nature.

If you can, evade or kill.

Don't search for an logical explanation, logic isn't a factor, nor is a code of conduct, standards vary, so expect the worst.

The depicted behavior is also perfectly permissible within the game.

If you were aligned to a power the cmdr would have had a valid rp reason to attack, otherwise they just get another kill, not much else to it probably. Deciat has by far the highest population of gankers of any system in elite so you should decide before you go what your approach will be. If you have the right loadout you could put it to the test, otherwise I recommend solo mode, but only at deciat.
yup this makes alot of sense i was in a hostile power territory. he probably thought he could nuke me and dash

Just scroll back thru your history and block em. Problem solved, insofar as that individual goes. :D

Was away for a while... blocking gankers only prohibits, that they contact you via chat.

has that changed? (so, open without selected individuals?)

Is the reason why so many gankers and griefers are in Deciat is because of Felicity Farseer? She is arguably the most useful engineer and they suspect other commanders who travel here are flying un-engineered ships, easy picking?

Any commanders who are expert anti-gankers who purposely stay around Deciat to kill these gankers/griefers? I suspect not many because the gankers/griefers can also block these anti-gankers.

I'm not sure that it's changed. I remember a few years ago a group did some tests and reported "Hey, we thought Block was only for comms but it stops instancing too!" Then the forum went ballistic and we had Hotel California etc. FD confirmed that the behaviour was intended.

They like killing live ED players. NPCs doesn't get it for them. If some of them are serial killers waiting to happen go with killing ED players versus actual live people. Frontier and ED may actually be saving real lives. Scary but welcome to 2021.
