Horizons What does owning a settlement do for the faction that owns it?

Like the title states: What does a settlement do for the faction that owns it? You can gain control over one by winning a war/civil war against a faction that owns one but what does that do for the faction? The only interactions I’ve ever had with settlements have been negative. You either blow up a power plant or disable a grid, take out skimmers, and so on but what GOOD does it do for those who own it?

if it is a settlement with a starport then the faction that owns it gets influence when in boom and if players are trading there.

Anyway Ontheminute, my group uses the trade from other players as a passive way to gain system influence, we can do nothing and if they trade at our bases then our faction gets an influence boost. I hope that helps.

This entire thread boils down to, Bragging Rights for the Faction.

mmmmm .... the INSTITUTE OF GALACTIC EXPLORATION AND RESEARCH... which is the faction for the "first great expedition" has more systems and bases than us... sooo you have more bragging rights?

The point I was trying to make is that the "player faction" doesn't actually benefit the players.

Effectively, you are playing the BGS to promote a faction whose only association with you was that you, collectively, got to name it and had influence on where it starts out.

Yes, sure. But I also like to roleplay and drop biowaste around their station in copious amounts and then boast about it.
Haha! Cool! Rep inbound! ... have you ever done that to us? Once a communist player pushed a communist faction up to fight for control for one of our systems.... was that you? .... or just one of your fellow comrades?
All good either way! We fully accept that as Imperial slave owning, jackboot wearing fascists that we are the bad guys here. We love it.

I don't think it was me. We're more active in the bubble's border. We had a long conflict with some crazy Imperials, though. AFAIK, we actually come along decently with Imps when Power Play comes into play. And I trade slaves to Imp systems, too - I just match ton for ton with Personal Weapons so they can get the Résistance going.
