what else are they making harder for new players? How many hours it is taking now?

The game is dying right now, in a dip lower than in years, fact

For it to be dying we would expect a downward trend. Fact: Since the drop after the release of Odyssey its been pretty stable, taking into consideration seasonal variations.

For your opinion to hold true, we should see a continuing decline in the user base.

Opinion, engineering is harder now than ever before because of some facts and some small sample size observations
It is not black and white, some things are facts and some are opinions
Some of the factual data is not a large enough sample size

Now you're making no sense.

But to focus on the main thrust, that engineering is now harder, i don't see how you can come to that conclusion. With material/data traders you just grab whatever you can get then cross trade for what you need.

As a new Player, who finally started playing the game a little over a week ago, I think my take on this is important.

Using streaming views for this game is stupid. I've done mostly trading, and it's not going to do well for views, the pace of the game is wrong for that. As for how combat works, I don't know, but there will be large lulls in the entertainment value as you go from point to point. Of course those streamers are not streaming this any more, there are other games that are better for a stream.

As for how hard the game is to learn, it wasn't that hard for me. Granted, I've tried really hard to avoid combat at all costs, so I can't really claim to be a good pilot. I tried to fly with flight assist off, and that was incredibly difficult, but it was clear that one has to turn flight assist off to maneuver the ship effectively in combat or trickier with trickier docking and mining. There is so much information to learn at the beginning, but it's actually pretty well explained, and follows a logical pattern in the presentation.

I have already bungled my way to a type-7 with just doing cargo trips. I just bought a Dolphin for passenger transport options with style. I could use the Type-7 for passenger transport, but I want my passenger vessel to look sleek.

As for multiplayer I have sadly not had much of an opportunity to play multiplayer. I can say the wing option looks cool, but I really want to join a squadron, but I can't figure it out. Honestly I'm asking for some advice on this, but I'll ask in the appropriate forum. I really messed up my first time in multiplayer where I attacked the system patrol with a fighter right off the bat in a bounty hunting mission... I was really embarrassed.

I think this game is amazing. I think the real reason for a lack of new players is the up front cost of getting a set up for playing the game. It's like 250USD for the controllers that I use, and I want the VR head set to really but I don't have the money for that just yet. I think this cost is what is really keeping out new players from this game not the game play. Also this game is very niche so there are not many players interested in it. If you want to know why your friend left from your friend group, that's just asking for emotional damage. I'm going to try and see if a few of my friends would like to play, but I'm not expecting them to really enjoy this game, as it is not for everyone.

the work engineering unlocks and upgrading is boring for me

that is just all stuff in the way of what I came to enjoy

and I am actually playing the game, the others I bought it for were like hell no, that is boring work except for one haha
Maybe the game was never designed to be something that you just do because youtube told you to. There's a lot of players here who have found their own way.
It's always a choice but ppl make the game what they want it to be.
May that be grinding or having a project and letting everything run off that.
Work things out for yourself.
More fun that way if you don't want to be a very bored grinder who just wants the best stuff without understanding anything else.
This game is not trying to be your standardised, generic and by the numbers clone.
No matter how you wish it to be and it never forces it either.
Blaze your own trail...
Some trails are more boring than others, choose wisely..

LOL you pass by a ton of troll posts, and then you say you smell a troll after 6 pages of discussions that you skipped reading lol whatever
read the thread lol
instead of attacking people, read the thread and make a point
maybe you can make a point that validates the waste of time the fetch quests exist for that detracts from playing the game

wasted most my day on the boring fetch quests for Palin and Gwent
without them, the thrusters suck

I don't know how easy these quests were a few years ago. Pretty sure that they are part of the hurdles that stop new players joining the game though. 5000 ly took hours and wasn't fun, it wasn't like going to do something I chose for fun, it was just another hoop in the list of them to get to play the game instead of go to work in the game

You're still not getting it and expecting the game to come to you.
It doesn't do that.
And it's much easier these days than what it used to be but i guess you missed that as it was years ago. Before your time..
It's no less true though.

I love when these posters claim the game was harder and easier now

ignoring factual examples of the increased difficulties and providing no examples of things that supposedly are easier LOL

I also love the two posts saying the game isn't dying, and that the onus is on me. Like wake up. Half the youtubers are gone.
The top row on twitch has two people with 100 bots and 20 viewers followed by a guy with 5 viewers..
When I started playing it took me three months to get a Cobra MK3. With my new Epic account which I started with Odyssey, it took me a week.

When I started, beginning missions would pay out 500cr or so if you were lucky. Not the 10s of thousands you get now for one mission.

I'm not going to break into the Yorkshiremen sketch, but you should realise when the game launched a decade ago, there were a hell of a lot of enthusiasts who remember the 1984 Elite, and didn't mind a bit of a tough challenge

But I completely concede your point about engaging the new players who may be less aware of the history of the game. They picked it up at a bargain price, and they aren't expecting a decade's worth of gameplay. You may not think it, but the tutorials are much better than they used to be

Not that this fact is much use to the newcomer who sees the sheer cliff face of the learning curve ahead of them. I'm not a big fan of just giving new pilots money. It's a bit like filling in a crossword puzzle for them. Winging up with them for fighting is an excellent idea, but like you say, you don't want to make them feel like they are just tagging along

I suggest the way you do that is to fight alongside them in a less expensive ship. This could well mean that all of you may spend more time looking at the rebuy screen, but that's what the insurance is for. Teaching them that a little bit of death never hurt anyone is a good lesson to learn in the game, and is more valuable than any Credits you could farm for them

as it was in 2020 with the highest player counter in history of the game before Odys

why do so many think getting the FC is the end of the game instead of the start?
Getting a fleet carrier is certainly not the start. Been playing since original beta/gamma, and I don't have a fleet carrier and never want to have one. But anyone that does, they need to earn it. It should be a massive investment, not something you can get after just 20 hours of gaming.

was a pain, but finished teh 5k ly trip that the people I bought the game for will surely not do lol

Why do you keep taking about the people you bought the game for as though its some form of point scoring mechanism?

If you want to wave your wad at people, try Star Citizen. People are often impressed in that community about how much money you've spent.

For all we know these other people are all in your head and you're just using these imaginary people to support your position.

Either your points support themselves or they don't. We can all say "all my friends love/hate this game"

We've seen in the past people here and on Steam forums saying "I'm going to tell all my friends not to play this game because its bad", which often provokes some ribbing along the lines of "what friends?"
