GTX 970 at 2440x1440 on 33" Benq monitor.
I see Oculus are recommending a 970 for the rift rather than a 980, though without mentioning ED. I'll see how that goes before upgrading to a 980 for VR.
Wise decision. Like you I have a GTX 970.
This year AMD are launching their "Arctic Island" range of 14nm (nanometer) graphics cards and nVidia are doing the same with their "Pascal" GPU range. Hopefully Q2 this year. These cards will be at least 2.7 times faster than the current generation of GPUs. nVidia are
claiming the Pascal GPU is 10x faster than their Maxwell GPUs!
So this year we'll see a jump in GPU performance and while the top-end cards (GTX 980 replacement) will still be mad-hatter prices (£500+) the mid-range cards (GTX 960 price equivalent) will be in the realms of the possible price-wise, they should perform at least as good as the current 980s/Titans.
A typical GTX 960 is a little over half the power of a GTX980, so the Pascal GPU equivalent will be faster than a 980 by more than half.
That's good news for several reasons. Existing cards will drop in price sharply. And you should be able to pick up a new generation GFX card (AMD or nVidia) that is better than a GTX 980 for £150-£200, half the current price for that level of performance.
Just in time for VR to give you a reason to upgrade!
