I'm not saying NMS is not good... IT IS good, but it's not my genre...
My main scope is to fly and control a ship in space and on planets. The environment needs to give me reason to go around and doing stuff.
NMS there's no piloting... Every single activity in the ship is a time sink and loading screen. Flight Model is too much arcady, it's like driving cars in Out Run. The game is all about collecting and farming.
I'm curious to see what they will deliver for VR but I guess I won't stick a lot around it until they develop a proper flight model.
I'll give it a try again in VR, just because I have VR and I have the game.
No Man's Sky should be the kind of game where I'd prefer to play it in Ironman mode, because it's at the beginning when such a game is at its most interesting, and perma-death greatly changes how you approach things in the game. When I started playing NMS, unfortunately, I felt it was so grindy at the beginning of the game, I can't see myself ever replaying it.
As for the future of Elite Dangerous, I figure we'll be see be able to land on non-life bearing worlds with atmospheres, walk around stations and ships, walking around the surface of worlds, and then finally landing on life-bearing worlds. Not necessarily in that order, and some may be combined, but we'll see that at the very least.
