What have you done FD, exploration is ruined with this garbage.

yes, it is change and people are reluctant to adapt.
and yes, the ui is indeed poorly thought out and messy but setting a few bindings should be doable for anyone.
however, after playing with it for a while ... yes, it's garbage.
(eagerly awaiting ziggy's diagnostic. i think i won't need 2 months)

but it's going to stay, and can have its good sides. e.g., i just shamelessly collected 100 imperial shielding in less than 30 minutes thanks to the fss and a handy 'unforseen persistence consequence'.

Different modes was the only way to go to program so may keys. Easy as cake, piece of pie if you think about it for a few minutes instead of mashing keys and getting PO. I'm having a harder time figuring out how and where they put all the menus we were so used to. :)

Im not saying its bribery but i think the FSS is rather profitable in exploration aswell. :D

I'm thinking another troll post as the OP Jazzy has not responded back or maybe it was a one time rant.

One thing I don't do being a person who acts their age, is troll posts. I have an IQ larger than 1, Just but it's larger. :p

I have more to do today than monitor a post. Yes I am very disgruntled at the mess of key-binds this game keeps unloading on us with half baked systems. I have been a member of the forums and game since day 1 alpha, I own 6 backer accounts (1 for myself and my 4 boys, and my daughter has a normal account, plus a spare I use for testing ideas and letting friends try out Elite).

I have spent hours trying to find a good balance with controls. I play Mouse/Kboard as I find it much better for targeting AI and players alike in combat, and finding once again more combo's to use these new functions is becoming annoying. I play many Scifi Space games, its my preferred genre with Elite at the top of the list, but lately I don't get FD's direction at all. A break could be just what I need, as I said "No you cant have my stuff, cause I will most likely be back sometime late next year. I am toying around with X4 currently, and now my kids want it... Damn you school holidays and they home to see what I get up to each day after house work!

Fly safe and happy exploring :)

fair enough. i'm pretty sure you would be able to get over the binds hassle if you had the motivation. maybe later, after a break.

dunno what exactly bothers you about the new system apart from that 'technical' problem, but i guess it bothers you much more what it is not. it is an ok mechanic for any average game, it's just hard to grasp that a game so original like this, with an actual galaxy to scale and all, decides a 'core improvement in exploration' is to be a new ball chasing gimmick ... well, no, it isn't motivating.

it's still early. the system is clearly a first version, doesn't even seem finished, so odds are it will be slowly improved. other changes to exploration, like the shared reveal and the codex knowledge base, are quite good.

I am a little confused, if setting up half a dozen new binds, with one unique keybind required (for the mode switch) is proving so difficult, how the heck did you manage to bind all the other functions prior to 3.3?

I quite like it, it took a minute to bind the controls but intuitively, the fss mode lists what actions are available at any particular moment along with the controls you have bound to them. It was very easy and interesting to use. Can't wait to go exploring. Your mileage may vary however, especially if you aren't used to RTFM.

I find the new system fast and easy to scan even big systems. Great for collecting Mats also.

I just wish the "modes" thing was gone, FSS = scanning mode, anything else = combat.

I'm glad that you replied knowing that it wasn't a troll post. I see your game experiences. We don't really care. We all have amazing years of game play. But many like me love to help out players. When Beta came out I programmed most FSS and other new bindings on a keyboard later dialing it into a HOTAS for the PC and PS4 getting it right when it went live.

But when your original post is more about emotional frustrations and putting down Frontier then we are not so inclined to help. There is an answer out here for every controller combination in the game. Experts with keyboard and mouse are here. Just ask nicely. Don't let your initial emotions decide what to type on the Forum. Forget Frontier responses. The player community has the solution to every issue because some of us don't have a life playing this game coming up on 5 years! :)

This is a very complex online game with players in a community helping each other. Whatever the issues other players have figured it out. If you go it alone then Elite Dangerous will always be frustrating. Four boys and a daughter will love you when you have the ED answers. Being Christmas you could be Santa Clause with amazing Elite Dangerous support with these kids playing the game. You decide.

Regards

I made it work on a Hotas4 so KB+M should be a piece of cake!

LOL...

It's really only a couple of new keys, then you can have some redundancy.
I use pretty much the same controls as for the GalMap.

While not in it as long as you Jazzy, I tried the beta and was frustrated with the effort needed to get my keyboard and mouse to work, so I left it and went back to adulting while leaving for a bit. Came back, backed up my binding file and started from scratch with key assignments. It is taking some getting used to but at least I am starting with some default selections that I can adjust, and I am getting the hang of it. I'm in this for the exploring, I kind of want to check out everything (I am way out in the black with my main account), and this system has its positive over the long flights to nothing in the old system. There is a number of QoL things they could add, and some initial look see scan or information would be great for systems we may not want to explore (to go through the effort when there is just the one star is an added hassle with no benefit, for example), but starting over helped. Maybe now I'll finally make the jump to the HOTAS I have in the box...

My entire FSS is programmed into the joystick, I don't even have to move my hand away to scan an entire system. I'm not going to claim it's for everyone, but a lot of people never bothered with exploration previously because they hated the jump-honk process, maybe some of them will now get involved with exploration seeing as there's slightly more involved and a better chance of finding stuff.

It's just a shame they opted to do it in a way that means that other players have stopped playing the game.

From a similar thread...

The controls aren't all that bad. Actually pretty straightforward once you've got it sorted. It's just not very intuitive and is a bit seemingly strangely redundant with extra UIs and modes.

I have more of an issue with having to park my spaceships and mess around with bits and bobs on maps to go exploring than anything else I suppose.

From a post of mine in another thread...

Set your mode switch binding first to switch between analysis and combat modes.

Next assign a binding to enter FSS view and another to exit FSS view. These can be the same.

Assign the axes or similar controls for dialing in the world signal types, zoom in and out stepping, and pan and tilt movement in the FSS view.

Assign (reassign) the "honk" button or similar you want to use. You'll need to be in the analysis mode to do the "honk," or in the FSS view there is another control binding option to do the honk from there. I don't use the latter.

Assign a button to enter the DSS view (this will be the same as the one to chuck the probes as well when in the DSS view).

Assign the pan and tilt controls for the DSS view.

Assign these in your fire groups as needed.

I like it. Using the new scanner mode is a lot more engaging than endlessly supercruising around systems.
