Not without, if the proposal to PvP-gate PowerPlay goes ahead, without losing access to existing content.

.... which is supposed to be pvp orientated.

Its an easy fix. Add a check to see if the player is pledged to powerplay, and if the person theyve blocked is likewise.

If they're both pledged, normal instancing rules apply (however, comms arent transmitable)
If either of them aren't, current block rules apply.

Home in time for tea and medals.

While I would agree that, from what Sandro has said recently it is "supposed to be" PvP oriented, its pan-modal implementation has meant that it is not a PvP-gated feature (and won't be unless and until the proposed change is implemented) - hence the confusion as to what it *was* supposed to be rather than that it may be.

Casual in your mind, perhaps not others. Blocking people in open Seems,,ha (not said)
open mean open. You can close the door by playing in group mode or Solo..Don't prevent other minds from enjoying their experience(maybe your a griefer?

The block tool is supposed to be there to prevent "griefing" / "trolls".
But like a few features in game, it is open to being abused.

And even if someone goes around open mode blocking people for no reason, it does not stop you enjoying open with others.
After all, why would you want to play with someone who doesn't want to play with you?

I used to think that, but after playing it for 2 months I was left confused.

They called a PvE token pushing system, that didn't reward PvP at all - the PvP system.
I'm almost certain someone in the office was slipping booze into the coffee machine.

A lot of the dedicated powerplayers (myself included) regarded it as this: the movement of pve tokens and their accumulation by players in confined 'choke point' systems is what would drive the pvp, as rivals strove to ensure their power had the most, both through protection of your own and denial of your rivals. As I and a few of the more involved keep saying, thats what kept it fresh and interesting till the standing order for.a lot of groups became 'move to.solo/pg and min/max'

Its an odd mistake to make, but unsurprising for a design team with extremely limited Modern Multiplayer (let alone MMO) experience.

The thing is, every MMO ever the players drop into a min/max system.
So it's no surprise people do it in Elite.

And no matter what Frontier do, players will still circumvent the spirit of Power Play to min/max.

I've been rejected from raid groups in WoW for not having the "right" gear (even though my gear was good enough, it wasn't min/max)
EVE Online corps used to only accepts people with maxed skills in certain areas, that no "casual" player would have (some lvl5 skills that took months)
Warframe meta for damage output annoys me, it's why I like the YouTuber Tactical Potato - he always says to enjoy the game and forget min/max.
Planetside 1 people had to have the right "certs" for some outfits to let them.

The list goes on and on, some people want to win at all cost - even to the detriment of the game.
If you're going to worry about those folks, you'll never enjoy the content no matter what Frontier does with it.
Even after this change (with or without Open only), people are already talking about ways to min/max uninterrupted.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Because you didn't try. You were booted.

No reason people should be held back because you didn't put in the same research and effort as the other guys.

I was a guild leader for years. I would have booted you too.

It's like league of legends and elite is the same way.

You're only putting yourself at a disadvantage by not keeping up with that stuff.

This is why outfitting for open compared to outfitting for solo min maxing plays into this.

And now they are going to fix it.

Happy belated birthday by the way.

Oh I understand if people want to meta play, then there is loads of work to be done.
But that wasn't the point.

Meta play is harmful to a game.

A game, keep that bit in mind.

These are games - not jobs, not a second life (despite one having that name), not a replacement for a sucky life.
They are games.

And meta play harms the community of folks who have real lives, other things to do etc.
As there is no joy playing a game with someone who just wants to win, even if it destroys the game in the process.
And Devs need to learn to ignore meta players and make games for personal enjoyment, not for people who are addicted and can put 80 hrs or more a week into meta.

Monopoly is a fine example of it.
The basic game, played to the normal rules can be good fun.
But people start to add rules to it, then they start meta playing it - which drags out a 30 minute game into a 4 hour game and kills the fun for everyone else.

There are familes out there that won't touch the game because meta play causes arguments.

Online gaming is the same.
And gaming shouldn't be a job, because if it is, you've got a problem.

Happy belated birthday by the way.

Cheers bud.

Someone once told me having children "keeps you young".
At this point in time, I disagree. I feel twice my age and it's the kids fault - all that running around aged me!

lol

;)

Lets go through this one last time, shall we?

Fifth columning is the act of joining a power to intentionally hurt it (for example, prepping a negative CC system). There is no way to stop it in the current mechanics, and even if PP was open only, at present you couldnt stop it without massively penalising yourself (as you are penalised for killing so called 'allies'). It has absolutely nothing to do with this change.

Undermining is the act of going to an enemies system and killing its NPCs, in the hopes of increasing its weekly cost to the controlling power. At present you can do this unopposed in either solo or a well curated PG, possibly even running a bot to achieve this while you go to work. This change intends to address this issue, as well as similar issues with fortification, preparation and expansiob.

The two are completely unconnected.

Goose please reread my post, especially where I said it is all SMOKE AND MIRRORS. I am not the one linking them together, those who are are trying to use 5C as an excuse for "open only" have made the argument about Solo and Private... you yourself say it can't be countered in Open really.

And by the way I've been aware of what a 5th Column is since "V: The Final Battle" came out in 1984 interestingly enough the same year Elite came out.

Yes. One is a way to actively play to undermine a group's effort. 5C is moving pve trophies to 'bad places' to damage the overall effectiveness of the group. Undermining is an attempt to remove a groups control of a system. Two unconnected things.

However, part of the 'Open only' idea is for the PP groups to stop these activities from occurring, by shooting people they currently cannot, because they have defined both these activities occurring in PG/Solo as 'cheating'. So they are both fundamentally related. And why, with the game designed currently, doomed to fail. The PP players cannot stop enough people for PVP to have a large enough impact on either 5c activities or undermining activities.

Not everyone really wants to play with Onyxia....(for those that do not understand the idea...search that name in YouTube, seriously...most toxic thing you will see a 'leader' do ever)...to me, it is what is wrong with a lot of guilds who take the attitude displayed here.

Yeah well those guilds reach number 1 status. Have a good report with blizzard. Understand the game and can give proper feedback for the future tuning.

You get in what you put out.

Nothing wrong with trying to be the best.

It doesnt have to be in video games either.

90s! :)

What took you so long? [mad]

And this explains what is wrong with any MMO out there.

I was watching the hotel burn.

At this point all anyone is doing is waiting for the final decision as to what they are going to do.

All I know, as I have stated before, whatever they decide will have massive amounts of salt included.

Little Napoleonic Pillocks :)

Warm smell of colitas.

It would certainly mellow everyone out a little bit!

Of course the major complaint will still be that the BGS is affected by everyone...so the Hotel will stand and continue explaining the issue to those that do not....

Why not?

Get all of them, no. But if players camping an opponent's home system can have a significant impact on other PP activities, why not this?

I searched the name in YouTube and found what appeared to be a silly video talking about strategies for beating a WoW boss. After that were gameplay videos about 'Onyxia' and WoW, I guess?

Can you explain what you're on about here?
