What is the big deal with ship interiors???

I couldn't wait when playing NMS to get a Freighter, it only took a couple days afterwards to get tired of being mandated to go through the same process every time I wanted to do anything in my freighter. I'm also a pledger of SC and own a couple of ships in which I'm mandated to having to walk or run through the entire ship prior to taking off or after landing. I would think it will be the same if and when ED makes the interior of our ships walkable.
Great example, in fact this pops into my mind every single time when ship interiors are brought up here.

Whenever I do play NMS (very, very rarely) I avoid my freighter like the plague - it's dull, repetitive and doesn't even look that nice visually. And at the end of the commute all you get to do is interact with basic menu UI. No thanks.

Sure walking around my Keelback cockpit would get old real quick, but being able to get up and walk to the SLF bay to get in it's cockpit would always be fun. Strolling around my Beluga next to a neutron star and rotating the ship with a handheld remote would be absolutely amazing, however.

Ok, so first thread post... Hi y'all o7...
At the risk of being 🔥 to oblivion for my heathen views, but what are people hoping to get out of having ship interiors?!? It seems to weave into every other thread and ignite passion like no tomorrow... I mean, sure - I'm in VR, and I bloody love getting up and having a little wander round my cab in different ships, but surely once you've had a wander round your ship and gone "ooooh" a few times, there really isn't anything else to it... I struggle to see how gameplay is going to be incorporated and what the added value would be... wandering round other ships, like damaged megaships - now that would be awesome, but my own ship? Meh....

So what does everyone expect/want/hope to get out of ship interiors that would justify the enormous amount of time and effort for the devs to facilitate? What am I missing? 😎
Kegerator, espresso machine, weapons locker, table with a bong on it lol.

well if you get out your ship into an SRV in the middle of nowhere there is only so much "ooooh" you can do right?

Same with exploration, jumping endlessly to see the same pixles & Jpegs you can see 5 minutes away?

the "debug camera" to erm find bugs is just for a few "ooooh" moments right? (BTW they made a whole feature out of this one)

many more examples but there is endless gameplay in ship interiors, some of us can see it and imagine it, others will need showing the path to glory and follow in the footsteps of others.

Why walk around station interiors then? They could just keep everything tied to a menu screen. The ship interiors would add a whole lot of charm to your collection of ships and therefore would exceed the benefit of stations in my personal opinion. Viewing a star or planet from the side window in one of those corridors visible on your large ships would be pretty cool, even if it grew old for you. Elite itself grows old quickly, so what the hell is the difference giving the player more to enjoy?

I never actually played the original Elite, but I'm sure I've heard of a "Trouble with Trumbles" scenario (a tribble parody). But something like ship infestations could make for interesting in ship gameplay. Infestations could be caused by tainted cargo.

Grand Theft Spaceship could also be an interesting new career option. They would be "hot" and you would be wanted anywhere that would be decent for outfitting, with shady ports to offload them. (This could be done without the exteriors, but I can think of a few things that would make that more interesting.

In port piracy/espionage could also be a thing. A ship is known to be carrying sensitive data, abs you need to sneak onboard and access it from a specific part of the ship.

I can think of a few mechanics that could be introduced for visiting passengers... and prisoners (how about a new brig modules, and the possibility of a prisoner escape), or even a criminal hiding in a passenger mission.

I could probably think of more that could be done, all in top of the "I'd like to walk around my ship from time to time"... which I'm absolutely certain I would do. Possibly not regularly, without extra gameplay mechanics, but still.

Bit of a strawman argument here - I get in my SUV and go do stuff... I arrive at the "same few jpegs" and never fail to be amazed at the beauty that the designers have put into Elite, but then I go do stuff", My point I guess, is that I don't see why it whips people up so much. If we were talking about boarding a burning mega-ship, or hatchbreaking and boarding another pilots ship, then yeah... it's worth it because it's part of gameplay. But just for the sake of it? Nah... and the debug camera is just good marketing of a process already embedded in game development - kudos for making it available, but it's no biggie for the devs - ship interiors would be quite a bit of, in my view, pointless work

Now this sounds like what would sell me ship interors! 👍

Something I said a long time ago about ship interiors .... not one person who says Elite Dangerous doesn't need ship interiors complains that they have to walk through their house to the front door to get outside. Not one person says "why can't I just teleport from my chair to outside my front door?"
Every night I think "why can't I teleport from my sofa to my bed".... 😁

...just go and build bases in NMS. I deleted it 3 months later. Most of game is running somewhere and building something. When to play?
Why the partial quote?

becuase if would have bothered to actually quote the entire sentence, then your remark comes into a different situation, and tells more about your motives to simply rage at NMS than to actually bother to read what I wrote... it is clear that you are not the intended target for such functions, based on your reply with the partial quote, that totally takes it out of it context.

And here is the entire sentence that you selectively choosed to only quote part of.and the bold part is what was decided to be the only stuff to be quoted.

So this would cater to all those who like to spend hours building bases in NMS, decorate your Elder Scrollls homes, and all other such games where you have some creative freedom do design and showcase your "stuff"
