What is there to do in HIP 97950 (the starter system)?

I'm trying to get the most out of the starter system to explore all of Odyssey's features. I'm trying the new missions, the DSS, and just checking out some on the ground sites. For the latter, I've mostly just found sites that were already "claimed" and I was trespassing. I was hoping to get a taste of exobiology while here, but haven't seemed to find anything to scan. Is there even anything in this regard in the starter system? Also, is there anything in particular you recommend trying out before leaving this system for good?

Even when the system was unlocked, in fact especially when the system was unlocked, the best thing to do there was leave.

The only thing I regret about the 97950 permit lock is the haz-res next to chamberlains which overlapped a low-temperature diamond hotspot which made for some fantastic pirating grounds for those of us with Archon Delaine's Diplomatic Immunity, but you're not going to put together a decent pirate ship just with what you can source in that system.

The main thing that's particularly notable in there is the view from Chamberlain's Rest of the spectacular planet's ring arcing overhead, which I suspect is the reason the devs chose it to be the first thing new players see.

Am I missing something with planet scans and exploration? It seems pretty dull to me. I'm just finding some junk, places I can't enter without trespassing, or fights (and I don't care for the on ground combat so I avoid it entirely). And do exobiology things to scan show up as a marker like any other feature after using DSS? I haven't found anything.

I'm not trying/expecting to be a billionaire from all this faffing about on ground, but I was hoping on foot would get me at least some interesting sights and lore. I only picked up Odyssey recently, but I'm kinda tempted to just go back to Horizons. The new stuff is meh and Horizons ran better (Odyssey gets choppy at times).

It is possible that the only thing you are missing is interest in that aspect of the game.

If there are biologicals on the planet DSS mapping will show areas of the surface with a blue overlay you can with the bound controls filter so that the overlay will be for one particular biological.
Now the blue area merely indicates that any of that particular biological can occur there it doesn’t mean that the whole area is filled with it. The area that don’t have the overlay won’t have any of that biological in them.

Depending on exactly what biological it is and some personal, or second hand from the forums, experience will tell you what sort of terrain is most likely to yield results when searched.

I dont think there are any biologicals to scan in the starter system, although I could be wrong. There's no way that the single starter system out of all the billions of systems will have too much variety in it, I think you will need to venture out.

If other features are showing up, I'm guessing you're not using the DSS, just seeing points of interest and ground sites in your left panel? The Detailed Surface Scanner is for firing probes at a planet which returns the blue 'heat' map that shows where biologicals are and what they are.

But in the bubble you don't need to DSS the planets, as it's all been discovered, unlike outside the bubble. If you go to the system map and look at the planet information for every planet it will tell you how many biologicals there are, they are already known in already discovered systems. You can still scan them and get cash, and go through the gameplay loop of locating and scanning 3 samples etc, but you wont need to DSS the planet to know they are there.

If you were to go back to Horizons you miss out on landing on atmospheric planets and just more interesting places to land. (shamelessly stealing from Alec's thread)
