What is this?

I was rising above the core from Sag A* on my latest Deep Space Survey when I ran into a weird object. It had a name even before I scanned it and behaved as a signal source, although when I dropped in there was nothing.

Here's a video:

I've been told it's the barycenter of the system, but I'm still holding out hope that I missed Braben's secrets by a few seconds...

You can get that effect anywhere. It freaked me out at first too. I'm not in-game so the details may be slightly off, but do the following:

- create a course on the galaxy map
- go back to your ship
- return to the galaxy map and now select the system you are actually in
- go back to your ship

the hologram should show as a signal source.

I think that is right.

That. Or aliens. ALIENS!

I have also run into cases where, briefly, the central star shows on the nav panel as two things. Identical distance, identical name. One has an icon of a star, the other has the signal source. Presumably that is some sort of bug*

*And not the Thargoid kind. :)

that's the center of the system, just select the system you are in on the galmap to make it show up

Given all the sonic stuff over the last few weeks, with the whole UA and planets making noise you can use to identify them, may have to experiment later and try listening to the baricenter of a system just to see if there's anything interesting there....

There is. If you record it and play it backwards, it says "Go Home, You Left The Gas On!"
:D
