What really happened in the Gnosis?

Everyone is freaked out about something that we all know, was going to happen. Don't blame FDev for bringing narrative to a desolated universe without dynamic events.
And you're missing the point that there's a g army of not-known-humanoid bugs inside that Hydras, probably, and they're appearing in more places and no one seems to ask if is there's an organized invasion coming?
What's in the damned Cone Sector that they're trying to hide?, something smells fishy, and buggy!
THEY INTERCEPTED THE GNOSIS BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT US TO KNOW!
I tell ya'all, a huge region of space is locked, we were the first people trying to make the jump and actually find out what's in there, and out of nothing... a huge division of Thargoids vessels appear and intercept us: they're gathering their weaponry around the Cone Sector! is there a goid me.. ga... ship waiting for us!!?
Maybe we should investigate more in the region of space we have the capabilities to do something, and learn anything from the Far God cult, maybe they have a key to discover some information about this race and how we can stop them.

Do we really, really, really need yet another thread?

As FD have said "COL 70 SECTOR" is meant for
"FUTURE CONTENT."

They noticed that when they did a global "lock all stars COL 70" that this little donut hole of stars had a different set of names. Someone at Canonn found the error and suggested the flight there to explore. Someone at FD didn't notice this until it was too late and decided to make a "story" out of the interdiction. You know the rest.

One of the upcoming updates (no I don't know which one) will eventually unlock whatever is hiding inside of COL 70.

Or maybe the real answer is "We locked it off because Michael Brookes had an idea, and since he left nobody can find the sticky note about what to do with it."

Not quite. The Cone and Col 70 are completely separate. Col 70 is a sphere approx 1,000ly in diameter, with various unlocked regions inside. (Barnards Loop, the Orion, Witchhead, Flame and Spirograph nebulae are all in there and readily accessible.

The Cone is further out (from Sol). The Cone sector was unlocked but surrounded by locked areas (not Col 70).

It’s been known for ages and plenty of people have tried to find their way in without success, as the permit locked wall around it is far too thick for normal ships to be able to.

There’s nothing new about trying to get into the Cone, it’s just that Canonn are the only ones with a ship with the jump range necessary to make it.

The point about permit locked regions still stands in general - they’re all for future content. The Cone had been an unusual case within that though due to it itself not actually being locked.

Well, there probably should be another thread about the Gnosis, but from an in-game lore perspective: what "really" (but, erm, not really) happened?

Perhaps that was what the OP intended?

Because there are certainly some questions to be answered there. Canonn got clearance from the Pilots Federation to bypass permit-locked space. The Pilots Federation assigns the permits and presumably knows why each permit is there. So they approved a research vessel's jump into what they knew to be Thargoid space, without saying anything at the time.

A clerical error, or a cynical use of civilians to test the Thargoid response? And what was the role of Aegis in this?

From a "lore perspective" I'd love to know how the Pilots Federation "knew" that the Cone Sector was suspected of being a hive of Thargoid activity (concerning this new fighter that was encountered). No one has ever explained HOW they came to the conclusion that this one Cone Sector is suddenly a hive of activity for this particular type of Thargoid vessel. What magical telescope did they use to determine this?

I wouldn’t think that Canonn got PF clearance. Normal ships don’t need PF clearance to jump past permit locked space, so why would the Gnosis? Unless there’s some lore to say that Megaship flightplans need PF clearance? (Never seen anything along those lines personally.)
