General / Off-Topic What song are you listening to right now :)

@ArtiX
I grew up with Slade, Sweet and Abba. Then I discovered electronic music like Kraftwerk and DAF, and worked for a while as a DJ. Today it's funny to see which 80's videos that have become popular. Like Gary Numan or Flock of Seagulls. Back then I considered both bands having a limited audience compared to Visage, Ultravox, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, ABC, etc. Time changes taste.

Eat Static was my reintroduction to electronic music, which as you probably know, had hard times when grunge became big. I missed the quirkiness of the 80's music, and Kraftwerk. Then one day at a festival, I heard this strange "techno" coming from a large tent, went in and was amazed. Danced with a girl I didn't know for five hours straight, until the main name of the night card entered the scene at midnight. Eat Static. They turned the tent into an inferno of moving bodies in a way I'd never seen before.

In the 80's I played all the mainstream, but personally liked some of the more edgy stuff. Here's one of my favorites from back then, and it still is:

A song about idealism and and altruism and a dude liberating three East German families by virtually cutting holes into the Iron Curtain fences in 1989, shortly before the Wall fell altogether. The lyrics are both plain and perfect, German language & indie rock at their best. This is storytelling. Kettcar are one of my favorite bands.

O7,
🙃
