Very much this, why not 70's inspired designs?

Am I the only person who imagined something more like Advent or Vasari from Sins?http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...solator.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080606061300
A hollowed out asteroid with engines strapped on with cockpit/weapons/heatsinks popping out here and there.
Curves and arches are functional and architecturally more robust and durable, is that in space as well? Or is that just Earth's gravity pushing down, making it robust?
That said, humans generally have a propensity to make luxury vehicles sleek and curved; with military vehicles being box-shaped (except where applicable, of course).
My understanding is that this is generally true for collisions and impact (be it astroids, other ships, or kinetic weapons) and the only time flat panels and corners are useful are in stealth vehicles designed to deflect incoming sensors... not exactly my area of expertise though... but with planetary landings, probably makes sense to maintain aerodynamics huh
Bricks can fly just fine.
i guess I should have clarified, "atmospheric planetary landings", which FD says is in progress...
A home brew / dogs breakfast look. We made it all by ourselves. Aysymmetrical.
Doesn't the lore support the Alliance having hybrid Thargoid/Human ships? Part organic, part mechanical? I think that would be cool to see as faction specific ships for the Alliance.
