What the new secret feature should be

Well, personally, I really hope so. But PP2.0, thargoid war, new ships - none of that requires Odyssey. The new feature probably won't require it either.
The new ships need Odyssey to buy them in game however like the Horizons ships back when the Base Game was a thing can be used in either version.

I think the point is that Odyssey is the main game, and additions are made for Odyssey. Because Horizons 4.0 is also based on the same code base it's possible for some things to be added, for sure. But it's not the main version of the game.

Are you sure you weren't expecting to be disappointed?
Nah, I stopped expecting anything when they (had the intern?) "fix" the launcher by removing the stop that returns you to desktop when the "Unable to establish connection" message pops up. The message that indicates you won't be able to connect to the servers and actually play? So now I have to wait for the game to load all the way into the menu before I can quit and try to start the game again. It's such a waste of time I'm thinking it was put in by the same guy that designed engineering.

I fully checked out of whatever mild expectations I had after that. 😴

fdev said the mandalay would improved improve ship handling in atmospheric environments, now we can only land on 0.1atmosphere planets, but the ships wing cant work well in there, the new feature should be thicker atmosphere

Unless by "atmospheric" they meant it figuratively: as Halloween approaches, there will be spooky, atmospheric scenarios, in which the Mandalay would fly better, allegedly.

I'd get my coat, but I've ran out of ARX.

Or - the "main game" is the minimal viable purchase version, which is Horizons, and Odyssey is clearly labeled as a DLC..

ETA: In terms of the code base, I think you're right though. For example in Horizons you can see the "Storage" tab for Odyssey mats in the right hand panel, but can't access it.

Personally I hope it's NOT base building (aside from hating base building in general), it'll just be another feature/upgrade I can't do in VR lol ... just my opinion, not a universal truth.

AFAIK, the spire sites and Banshee hunting at abandoned military settlements do need Odyssey..
Isn't that the only new content for Odyssey since the release date?

Just in case I clarify that I'm referring specifically to the space legs game content, not the 4.0 codebase

I'm too new to know first hand, but according to a comment from @jojon:

The only deliveries of such I can think of off the top of my head, is avatar gestures, avatar seating, mission givers at settlements, and the Thargoid Spire platform game... (EDIT: Oh yes -- and the protect missions... EDIT2: ...and AX reactivation mission variants... EDIT3: Ah, there was the carrier interiors, wasn't there... wonder how long I can keep recalling a tidbit at a time... :p)

There have been quite a few new things added to the on foot content, not sure I can be bothered to look them all up.

In addition to all of those, Scorpion SRV and Colonia on-foot engineers. Dockable megaships didn't get a walkable interior until a few updates in either, though sooner than FCs.

Broadly, I think it's best to view things as:
Updates 1-12: actual Odyssey updates. Mainly bugfixes and polish, but some extra content additions too.
Update 13-18: "Aftermath". Thargoid war content which is mostly using spaceships, which includes a few on-foot features.
Update 19-??: "Ascendancy". Powerplay content which they've suggested will also have some on-foot features but mostly use spaceships.

Looking further back, there weren't that many Horizons-specific features added after the 2.4 release was done - a few more types of Guardian sites, some new ships with a Horizons-only tag, a few story/mystery POIs ... but most of the content added in Beyond didn't require Horizons, for one reason or another. With Odyssey, they said that they were moving to a "develop-then-release" model rather than the "release-then-develop" of Horizons, so it probably should be expected that there weren't any further major additions to it planned.

Galnet News may have just dropped a hint (covered a few posts above). I think it must be a combination of Base-building and access to some atmospheric worlds. Imagine having the ability to utilise chemical and gas reactions to create commodities and the type of bases you can have depend on what atmosphere the bases are built on? super excited!

I'm calling it now, it won't be base building (I have said in the past it won't be base building).

I am usually wrong about these things.
I've said it will be base building and I too am usually wrong. 🤔
Same here, and the worst part is I'm only right when I use reverse psychology and predict "There wont be base building".

Update releases...yup, no base building.

Sucks when I'm right :(

Yeah imagine the Mandalay with its wings designed for atmospheric flight being agile and stable enough to scan a flying Gaseous Whale/Snake or take samples.
I could see Gas Giant atmospheric flight being added to Odyssey as a free update due to the the lack of a requirement for different ground assets, while the volumetric cloud tech is already in game. Its a good prediction along with base-building.
