What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

I had one in my hand last night and the Warthog is comfortable. The pinky trigger and button is not to my liking but the build quality is second to none.

Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS. Just bought it recently to start practicing ;)

I used to have a cheap joystick, but it never worked well - not a patch on the T-Flight - and other than that only used mouses.

My wife wants a Razer Naga Elite gaming mouse, and will get it for Xmas. I might give that a go as well.

I'll be using my HOTAS! :D Thrustmaster Warthog throttle and joystick, with Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals. :)

You had Psykokow's HOTAS in your hands last night and it was comfortable?

I'd be very careful about admitting that in public if I were you :p

I use a Naga and it is bloody great, its just basically the number pad buttons on the side of the mouse for games where you need alot of binds it is great.

I even use it for FPS games too, my husband cant use it thought as his hands are just too big for the small buttons. So any guys who are thinking of this mouse should really have a little try out of it in pc world or indeed your wife's before ordering online.

It was well worth the time it took to get used to it.

No probs! It is a pleasure to be able to help a fellow elite-ist!

Let me know how you manage with the software as I'm a bit behind schedule there :p

Having a wife and two kids is kind of time consuming...;)

No joysticks or gamepads for me. I find them to be awkward and counter-intuitive.

Razer Naga, Deathstalker and Nostromo ought to do it. Already working on my "Die, pirate scum" macros lol

That is the conflict I am having. Of all the control methods I have to hand (oh look a pun :p ), I always find that the keyboard an mouse is a great combination of flexibility and precision.

Slightly off-topic, but having now played with an Occulus Rift, I was wondering whether Frontier were thinking at all about using it for input? I'd love to accept/decline missions by nodding/shaking my head, or to target a ship by gesturing at it.

I was talking about this only the other night with my other half. I know there are some rift demos where you can look at a menu then press enter and away you go (think its blue marble or titans of space). This would be amazing.

I'm worried I might sneeze while playing and accidentally launch a missile salvo :p

Titans of Space lets you look at a VCR Play style arrow, it blinks a few times then activates and continues the tour. There is a demo called Trial of the Rift Drifter where you nod and shake your head to answer questions too. There are actually quite a few of these things... there are even whole games you play just by looking!

This is one of the things I mentioned at Elitemeet. Some demos support the idea of the controller working in a contextual manner, so for example with a 260 controller; looking at a ship and pressing 'A' would target it. Looking down to the 'Yes' and pressing 'A' would start the mission without having to 'switch modes' or anything unintuitive. It is a simple but powerful option that the HMD gives you.

Well, I am now the owner of a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X. I could not wait any longer. I need time to learn how to fly and master the skill of using a proper joystick.

By the time ED is released I won't have to go through the embarrassment of not being able to 'find the any key' so to say.

I played some Oolite and am pretty pleased with the results. It makes it so much easier.
I also played some Strikesuit Zero and that showed me I need to relearn how to use joysticks again. It is vastly different then mouse and keyboard.

The most difficult is to remember what all the buttons do in the game because there are so many functions.

If anyone wants to know a little bit more I can review it more extensively insofar that is necessary. It is all pretty straightforward.

so for those of you going to invest in an saitek x52 but are finding it out of stock, or if you are thinking of investing in a HOTAS, you may want to hold off a little while.

Saitek are about to launch a new stick to possibly replace the X52, the x55 Mach. Not alot of info out there just a promo vid, but looks like a similar handle to the one used by most other manufacturers and their x65f model that is based on the F16 and A10 etc

Saitek X55Mach promo.

Saitek apparently visited Star Citizen hq a few months ago, so hopefully this will be made with space sims in mind.
