What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Was using mouse KB.

Now I am using a Thurstmaster T-Flight.....the game is amazing now!

Also as a side note. This $50 HOTAS system, is extremely well done. Usually I am worried about the base of the stick being too light, even separate from the throttle, the stick is nice and heavy and stays on the desk very well. Only if you hit the edge of the stick range does it start to move on you, and twisting doesn't move it at all.

Its got just enough buttons for everything you need...mostly. Only things I had to take out from the controls was Strafe Left and Right, but mostly because I couldn't find 2 buttons that worked for that very well.

I plan on getting a X52 pro, or a Warthog when I eventually can......those sticks look...sick!

I'm using the X-65F Combat Control System, manufactured by Saitek. It is a beast of a control system and now that I've created a profile specifically for Elite Dangerous I feel I can take on the universe

To those who have been using the X55, how is it handling? I've been leery of getting it due to half the reviews for it blasting the HOTAS for it's shoddy construction and button ghosting.

What problems have you had with it? Or is there QC finally beefing up and handling the issues?

Was using a 360 controller, worked fine. I bought and now am using a x52, mainly because I bought a Oculus DK2 and I wanted the feel of being there.

May i ask if you feel it's more precise for targeting and in general in dogfighting?
I'm using a 360 controller and i think it's too sensitive and becomes a problem when trying to target. You have the x52 not the pro, right? I'm considering the x52 or the pro. Do you think the upgrade worth the money?
Anyone fellow commander ho has experience on both the 360 controller and x52, x52 pro, i'll appreciate his thoughts.:)

I have a Saitek X55 (Rhino) HOTAS....hated it for the first half an hour while I got used to it and now I couldn't imagine flying without it.

X55

I shelled out on a saitek x55 rhino hotas set up about a month ago. Was waiting for something like this to come out before replacing my old x45.

I like this stick a lot. obviously compared to the X45 its a far superior piece of kit.

The throttle is a tad stiff, I have it rolled to its least resistant setting but its a tad stiff for the weight of the base. The weight of these things feels far too light to me, in the heat its easy to slide the stick or throttle or tip them.
I'm going to open them up and stick leadshot inside the bases until they stop moving.

Some of the throttle switches I find a bit.. out of place? hard to reach some switches if both hands are busy (I'm not about to start using my nose).

The slider switch doesn't appear to work, I don't know if thats a game support issue, a saitek issue or I have a duff slider. The mode switch doesn't seem to do much either but again I haven't really played with the profiles or anything yet.

As a product it's slick and cheaper than that £300 warthog thing. Generally I'm happy with it.

I have the cyborg 5, its feels a bit flimsy, like its going to break soon, I think i might take it back and trade up for an x52.

Currently using:

• TM Warthog Hotas
• Saitek combat pro pedals
• TrackIR 3

The only upgrade I want to make to this is the Oculus CV1 when it's released.

I get what you mean about the throttle being a little stiff....also if you try and use the stick lightly, but keeping the default spring in, the weight of the stick base isn't enough to prevent it from moving also, albeit not the end of the world.

I'm considering bolting them down to my table to remove this minor issue but with regards to the buttons positions - I find, particularly the throttle, brilliantly designed with just about everything at the touch of a finger or thumb.

Everyone is different, I suppose, maybe I'm just lucky in that respect but maybe your particular bindings being altered might help put it in a better stead? Who knows...trial and error I guess.

I keep getting told to get the trackIR, but I don't see the point when I still have to look forward at my screen while turning my head, it seems pointless with anything but several screens or the occulus rift, or maybe I am missing something ??

Regarding Track IR, see my EDTracker (& Voice Attack) demo - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZEINHinsdc&t=1m28s

You really don't even notice you've moving your head (slightly) but still looking at the same monitor. It's still intuitive and useful!

Folks,

What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous? Joystick? What brand? Just using a keyboard?

I have been using my XBox 360 controller connected to my PC for oolite. It works OK, but has some issues.

It was my birthday yesterday, dad bought me a Saitek X52 Pro :D

Bought my first ever HOTAS for Elite: Dangerous. Went for the budget model Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X, so far I'm reasonably happy with it - no deadzone problems bothering me (although maybe that's just because I've never touched a more expensive HOTAS before).

Also enquiring into an EDTracker for headtracking shenanigans!
