What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Something I'd not considered before seeing this thread.. I've not been paying attention to the latest news for Elite Dangerous..

Is it going to need a joystick or the like to play??

Traditonally it was arrow keys... I think its clear to see that a lot of people really enjoyed adding a joystick control element..

I myself am a keyboard/mouse enthusiast but seeing some of these sticks is... very tempting...

I think I shall go with some sort of HOTAS *s******

I was quite good with the keyboard only method on the original game but tried it recently on Oolite and didn't enjoy it so much.

Have been faffing around with mouse control on Wing Commander Saga recently and that was okay.

I think it will have to be joystick though..

EDIT - how odd - the censor doesn't like the word s-n-i-g-g-e-r

Used to play the likes of wing commander on keyboard and moved to a mouse for freelancer and ffe - but will probably try a 360 pad for dangerous.

I've tried to use a joystick very now and again in the past but just can't seem to get the hang of it. i think the dual sticks would be just as good and I've had a lot more practice with them.

Mouse and keyboard only. I played Elite on C64 nicely with the roll / pitch style and joystick. But after years of playing FPS and other flight sims with mouse on PC I can't get used to it anymore; gave up playing Oolite because of this. I hope E:D will allow steering like X3 as an option...

I have a wide selection of controllers. To Game pad to a 13 button mouse. Or running a rumble pad to Dual Flight sticks at the same time.

very nice, I've had one for years, loads of programmable buttons. good choice.

Does the saitek have forcefeedback and built in force resistance like the Microsoft Sidewinder 2? that's what I've had for years and the force resistance in particular is just great for immersion, but the X52 series looks like a really good setup for buttons and such that the sidewinder 2 lacks.

Force resistance for those that arn't familiar is where software adds "pushback" for want of a better word to the handle so that especially in flightsim games it actually gave you that feel you'd get of turning a yoke against air pressure resistance, add in forcefeedback and it's really something; nothing quite like bringing in a P-51 shot to S*** and dead stick, with the joystick vibrating and almost hopping like a pogostick to give that immersion of what it must have been like.

By comparison "flat" joysticks with no feedback or resistance just doesn't do it for me.

Some of the joysticks that I've seen here are very complicated looking indeed - are they usable by those of us born with eight thumbs and two fingers?

Saitek x52 Pro, should arrive any time in the next week. :D

I took delivery of one of these earlier this week.

Had a bit of a mare getting it to work on my Win 7 laptop (i7) but it's up and running on my old Vista machine with Oolite - finding it much easier to fight with than the keyboard or mouse.

Will be getting a new machine for the game though..

It's more a question of how much you want to spend. You can get a simple, easy-to-use, budget 'stick for about £25 - or you can spend a whole lot more on the flashier 'sticks. I'll be using a budget 'stick and keyboard.

This is my baby and I loves it:

Can wait to put it in command of my Cobra :D

Pansies! with your top hats and egg yolks on your joysticks
I'll be using the one true hardcore joystick

The ultimate in comfort and control (according to the box).

Hated this one LINK
I used to go through micro switches like a teenage goes through cleanex :)

I think I also had one of these LINK but that could have just been a fever dream.

I remember that stick. It kept breaking, I kept buying new ones. The one I have now (Saitek Cyborg Evo) has been the epitome of reliability. When Elite D comes out, I might treat myself to another Saitek - the F.L.Y. 5; it looks very similar to the Evo but I love the fact the throttle is off to the side and can be split for multi function purposes such as using one for the throttle and one for things like trim. Or to control individual engines; of course none of that will be a concern in Elite D. ;)

Is it possible when you mention a new controller that you satisfy the itch for controller **** addicts like myself... and put up a linky or a picky..

I am desperate for a good controller and the Saitek X52 is the one i am strongly considering... BUT what is this fly of which you speak?
