What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Vibration isn't the same thing as true force feedback. Did that stick also push and pull itself around as well?
As a user of a G940 stick I can say that it does push but I and another of my combat flight sim squad find that the center of the stick range is a bit notchy and doesnt feel as good as the MS sidewinder. It is a shame that there are some issues with the stick as it had great potential to be the best set up. It is now discontinued with no sign of a replacement. Some people are big fans and dont have any problems so a second hand set up might be an idea if you fancy one.
PS I am about to buy a Warthog :)

Yes it has full force feedback, if I release the stick and plane goes up and down it will pull the stick with it, you can also specify the value of tention etc. It's a full force feedback feature. Some people have problems with G940 "limp" but with latest firmware and latest drivers it works awesome.

I wish I could afford to buy a Warthog and pedal set :(

Does this mean there might be an 'official' X52 profile available at some point?

Depends if we get some sort of control scheme export/import feature which we don't have at the moment so you'll have to spend the time binding it yourself if you want to use one.

Folks,

What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous? Joystick? What brand? Just using a keyboard?

I have been using my XBox 360 controller connected to my PC for oolite. It works OK, but has some issues.

Saitek X52 Pro kit and a Logitech G13 Gameboard.

After reading a lot of reviews/youtube stuff, I think I'm going to go with the Saitek X52. Or a XBOX controller.

Too much choice!

I'm sure you can just copy the profile from the Saitek SST software, and then make it available on your web site.

When I get my back side into gear and turn the computer back on, I'll test it out.

Aye, profiles are just wee tiny iccle files, they love being shared. So much so even Saitek share them for some games. Would be a real shame that if Frontier found a rather useful set up they didn't share it. While, yes we can create our own profile, it takes time to tweek and mess with to get it right, a pre-tweeked one would save a lot of time... :)

That is a pretty good idea, to get a sticky post during alpha or beta where people can share their configs for various controllers. I'd like a section for it on the FD website.

2 more question for a warthog owner if I may, as I want to be sure of its suitability before I throw money at something.

I know the warthog has an abundance of switches, but very few push buttons in comparison to say the x65. Is this a concern / problematic for space sims or anything that is not an A10, eg craft war thunder, husband plays MS flight sim x ?

Also can you envisage any problems for someone who is kind of small?

For people who want to read the manual of some of these joysticks I have found them online so you can look them over to avoid surprises after purchasing.

Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X:

Saitek X52:

It is a Dutch website, however, if you click on the product and notice the tabs, the most right one is called 'Download Documenten'. Go there and find the manuals.

The list:

Hope that helps.

I decided to go with the HOTAS X by Thrustmaster. I'll get me one on Monday with a little luck.

I wanted to wait and see some reactions from alpha testers. But I have other games atm that could benefit right away.

Heeeeere I am!

Let's put it this way. Maybe it does have less pushbuttons, true.

But the impressive capacity of the T.A.R.G.E.T. Thurstmaster software freely downloadable it's a dealmaker.

Granted, it takes some time to learn how stuff works, but chances are if a guy is into a flight sim where even EACH SINGLE circuit breaker in the cockpit is modelled and buys 300$ of joystick, maybe he is into getting to know stuff
;)

Also can you envisage any problems for someone who is kind of small?

Worse case there's a bit more of hands waving to be able to reach some of the switches. But it's not like the first X-box Big joypad ;)

Look, if it makes it easier I'll snap some pics of my hands on the HOTAS and post them here, ok? :D
NO charge!

thanks Komemiute, dont worry about the shots there are loads of reviews on youtube, but thank you again for answering my questions.

The software is the thing that I will think is the huge difference, and apart from the fact I have had to really search for minus points for this stick (push buttons being one of the few for space games) along with your posting has me convinced tbh.

It was between this and the x65f I hear its a nice stick but just not as good software and build quality is no where near the Warthog. I down loaded both the pdf's from the saitek and Tm websites and whilst the throttle on the x65 seems to have alot of options but the shear amount of options the warthog has over all is impressive.

As for the husband it will be me that gets to do all the setting up and learning the software, its my job to fix the pc's up and he gets the end result. However, ED is all mine hence the question about hand size. If he is lucky I may even let him have a character slot. lol.

We have an oculus rift dev kit (soon to be dev kit 2 I hope), and as soon as I heard my very 1st computer game I played as a girl of 7 or so was coming back I pledged.

When I heard it was a rift game I went founder. So now I just am trying as always to figure out how to get the best experience possible for me for ED and SC, for him whatever flight games he likes. I have to say everything I hear about the warthog seems to fit. Shame there are no more old style PC shops with things like this on display any more.

Thanks again for the feedback really liking this stick the more I read about it.
