What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

I've only played with a colleagues personal x52 pro and we have no plans to support programming for the MFD on it. Other than that the x52 pro works pretty much the same as the non-pro version. It only looks a bit different and there are like a few metal buttons but the majority of it is exactly the same plastic.

Will you guys ever think about supporting it in the future though? Seems like a waste to not support X52 Pro features like this. I can already see it doubing as a contact scroll screen or shield/hull guage.

I'm fine with mouse and keyboard at the moment. Going to have to get a HOTAS setup when my DK2 arrives though....I'm just not sure which one at the moment.

I use a few pieces of gear, my primary control is the Saitek x52 Pro probably my favorite thing because it looks awesome and helps with the immersion. I also have commands mapped to my Logitech G13 game pad, G19 keyboard, and my Razer Naga.

Total control.

I will be using the following controller systems..

Ed tracker unit
Advanced Control Pad [ROCCAT power grid]
Logitech Force 3D pro joystick
Keyboard [of course]

Hmmm, so, really, I have no excuse for dying he he. :)

Will start with the Xbox One controller, I've been using that throughout beta. Maybe I'll go with a Saitek HOTAS down the road.
I know many Players that have played with a Pad Controller and switched to a Joystick/HOTAS and all say they same: they didn't want to switch back, Joystick/HOTAS is far the best Controller for such a Game. Like a Wheel for a Racing Sim.

And all what I can say is: after I played 5 Seconds with my X52 pro I know already, that this Players have right. Alone the Feeling with a Joystick/HOTAS is much more "right".

I look forward to us getting full and proper force feedback support in ED as well. Made anew for space sims.

There are forces and effects that can be represented absolutely everywhere on a space craft via haptic feedback. Landing gear operation, landing and take off forces and vibration, atmospheric flight - both entry and exit, atmospheric exit thrust forces, impacts in asteroid fields and with other space objects including other ships or docking rings, ballistic weapons fire vibration, combat damage vibrations from ballistic weapons fire and missile hits to shield impacts. Then there could be the vibration forces from using afterburners or sudden reverse thrust. And even some opposite force when nearing red/black out - a slow force building up when near blackout and then maybe a stick shaker reminder.

Getting full and proper force feedback (haptic feedback) support into Elite and Star Citizen will go a long way towards helping joystick manufacturers possibly taking a risk and developing a new FFB stick/HOTAS. Cost, and the problems with returns and repairs are the main reasons they stopped making them. With today's manufacturing processes and materials, force feedback sticks and HOTAS could be far more reliable and cost effective. But demand has to be there first, which is why I support the idea of force feedback (haptic feedback) support in Elite and Star Citizen.

Personally I'd love to feel a little rumble on the left hand throttle as well.

There are many different haptic feedback forces that could be coded in Elite to revive force feedback and make it anew for space sims, space craft operations in ED.

Love force feedback!

Cheaper Options

Apologies if it's been asked before, but does anyone have a half-way decent option for a stick for those of us that don't really play that many sims and so have no real need for a £150 monster? Possibly the £50-80 mark would be better. Any suggestions?

T.16000M (£42). The best pure stick at that sort of price point. Not sure if it's the best solution for ED though without a separate throttle (which'll cost ~£80); you're probably better off with the HOTAS X (£40). The stick part won't be as good, but almost certainly worth it for its throttle options

This is what I am currently using

I'm using exactly that gamepad, i've configured pitch, roll and yaw axis but i'm too bad or i've a wrong controls config, it's nearly impossible aim targets :(

Too difficult controlling this game for and old EvE online player

I've only played a couple of days but I'm excited about the future for it. I played with the PS4 pad and got by fine but today I bought a Thrustmaster Hatos X, looking forward to the other half going to bed so I can give it a whirl :)

I'm using the same controller (F310) with some thumb stick extenders, which certainly help.

However, I'm also using the Logitech profiler to tweek the sensitity. Unfortunately, to use this you need to change the controller from X Input to D Input (the switch on the back), since the Logitech profiler only works in D Input mode. This will mean that ED doesn't see your controller as a gamepad, but as a generic joystick, so you'll need to input your own custom control settings in ED from scratch. However, in my opinion the extra control you can get from reducing the sensitivity using the Logitech profiler settings is worth the effort (note: you'll probably want to reduce the sensitivity of the pitch axis more than the roll/yaw axis).

With tweeked sensitivity and thumb stick extenders I can achieve, for me, an acceptable level of precision, although I'm sure that someone with a good HOTAS could do better. I hope that by the time we get to the final game (if not earlier) FD introduce an in-game method of creating simple sensitivity curves for gamepads.

Cool, thanks! I might just be able to get ahold of that T16000M on a trial as I think that's what a friend has. Would the HOTAS capability be much of an improvement, seeing as there's negligible price difference between the two?

Currently using this.

Testing with my current setup, mouse/keyboard is by far the easiest. Since I plan to play the game on the Oculus Rift DK2, I assume an Xbox controler will be easier.

I have one, but hate the haptics, so I guess I'll stick with the HOTAS setup and lose horribly thanks to it.

Normally, I prefer the mouse and keyboard. However, I really suck using it for ED. I ordered the X-55. Hopefully, I get one without any of the issues others have reported.

What issues have come up?
I've just tried a Thrustmaster T16000M and it's not bad at all. I found it being pushed over at points when I got too enthusiastic, but that might be because of my lack of experience and also the lack of sucker pads on the bottom. Definitely an option then, but I did see how having an auxiliary throttle would be a help.

Various sim forums have reported problems with AMD USB causing a ghost key issue and something about a plastic part on the inside sticking. Workarounds are to get a USB card and apply some plastic safe lub. These workarounds are acceptable for me. I have a old MS sidewinder joystick that would probably work too, but it's the non force-feedback one. I will try it just to see how it feels.
