What would your Local Zoo Pack look like?

My closest zoo would be Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium. So many options to choose from.
I’ve gone with the following pack
  1. Tasmanian devil
  2. Emu
  3. Goodfellow’s Tree kangaroo
  4. Sri Lankan leopard
  5. Siamang
  6. Asian small-clawed otter
  7. Blackbuck
  8. Rhinoceros iguana
Other inclusions could be
Little penguin
Maned wolf
Wallaby
Squirrel monkey
Wombat
Agouti
Serval
Fallow deer
Tamarins or marmosets as exhibits if they ever included mammals

My local zoo is the Houston Zoo.

  1. American alligator - besides the small group that just came back in 2019, we used to have a white alligator named Blanco that lived in the reptile house for years, until they moved him to a nearby crocodile facility (Crocodile Encounters or something like that)
  2. North American otter - the Children's Zoo has been here for years, and in the future will be part of the Texas Wetlands section, so it'll be 1 huge area representing Texas wildlife. I want this otter, whether we get an Asian small clawed otter or not
  3. Whooping crane - recently came in 2019, they have a nice enclosure that resembles a swamp
  4. Capybara - these little guys just arrived last year as part of the South American Pantanal section (best area in my opinion)
  5. Howler monkey - also arriving last year in the Pantanal. I believe it's the black howler, but I haven't been to the zoo for a while
  6. Puma - the puma is a powerful cat from across the Americas. On top of that, it's the mascot for the University of Houston and the zoo houses the mascot; the name is Shasta VI
  7. Fossa - currently housed in the small cats section (I'm sure they'll be moved to the Madagascar section when it opens later)
  8. Houston toad (E) - I can't have a Houston pack without the Houston toad, an endangered species discovered in the 40s and one that the zoo has a conservation program for

The nearest zoo to me, Greenville Zoo, is relatively small and I’m actually not sure off hand if we have 7 viable habitat species not currently in the game, but let’s see:

  1. Amur leopard
  2. American alligator
  3. Ocelot
  4. Greater rhea
  5. Siamang
  6. Schmidt’s red-tailed guenon
  7. Bat-eared fox
You know what, I’m happy with it. I think the only viable species past that would be the debatable alligator snapping turtle, a handful of other small primates, and the Masai giraffe.

Or if i go for my state’s larger zoo, Riverbanks…

  1. California sea lion
  2. Matschie’s tree kangaroo
  3. Hamadryas baboon
  4. Fishing cat
  5. Golden lion tamarin
  6. American alligator
  7. Prehensile-tailed porcupine
Either looks fantastic to me.

Local Zoo is Grassmere Park in Nashville, TN

1. Andean/Spectacled Bear
2. Cougar (possible "Star" Animal)
3. Red River Hog
4. American Alligator
5. Grey Kangaroo
6. Cape Porcupine
7. White Cheeked Gibbon (the other possible "Star" animal)

Not sure on the exhibit animal but we do have an Alligator Snapping Turtle.

Just missing the cut: the Bontebok, the Eland and the Two Toed Sloth.

The closest zoo to me is ZooAmerica in Hershey, Pennsylvania (connected to Hersheypark)--it focuses exclusively on North American animals and so it would effectively be a North America pack with a couple less conventional choices (deliberately avoiding likely NA Pack candidates like the cougar and alligator).

1. American black bear
2. Canada lynx
3. North American river otter
4. White-nosed coati
5. North American porcupine
6. Elk
7. Sandhill crane
8. Corn snake (exhibit)

The closest large zoo is the famous and historic Philadelphia Zoo. Many of its star animals are already in PZ but many others are not.

1. Maned wolf
2. Fossa
3. Red-capped mangabey
4. Lar gibbon
5. Red river hog
6. Mhorr gazelle
7. Hamerkop
8. Green tree python (exhibit)

Metro Toronto Zoo:
  • Olive Baboon
  • Przewalski's Horse
  • Matschie's Tree Kangaroo
  • Short beaked Echidna
  • Hairy Nosed Wombat
  • Bennett's Wallaby
  • Two Toed Sloth
  • White Handed Gibbon

Special shout out to the Cougar, Moose, Beaver, and American Alligator (all animals we might get in the upcoming N. America pack)

Cincinnati Zoo Animals Pack
  • Sumatran rhino
  • Tayra
  • Aardwolf
  • Chinese alligator
  • Coquerel's sifaka
  • Florida manatee
  • Mexican wolf
  • Electric blue day gecko
I tried to go with some of our more rare, unique species you're unlikely to find at other zoos. Of course, Sumatran rhinos don't live here anymore, but whatever

So with the rumblings of packs based on the San Diego zoo being whispered about, it got me thinking about packs based on the zoos nearby me.
Parameters being: using current game mechanics (so no aviaries/aquarium animals) and using animals not already in the game.
Closest accredited zoo to me is the Greensboro Science Center, and the pack would go as follows:
1) Sumatran Tiger
2) Maned Wolf
3) Fossa
4) Fishing cat
5) Serval
6) North American River otter
7) Carribean Flamingo
8) Eastern Box turtle
My local zoo (Ramat gan Safari zoo) prides itself on successfully breeding Elephants (both african and asian), hippos, white rhinos, chimpanzees, orangutans and gorillas, but these are all in the game.
So I'd go by the animals not yet in the game, even though they are not the flagships of the zoo.

Ramat Gan Safari zoo:
  1. Hamadrayas Baboon
  2. Guereza
  3. Scimitar horned oryx
  4. Addax
  5. Giant Eland
  6. Persian leopard
  7. Emu
  8. Alligator snapping turtle

Seeing as Canberra and Dubbo are both similar distance I’ve also done a pack for Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo. Dubbo doesn’t have much in the way of exhibit animals so I’ve included an extra habitat animal being the echidna.
  1. Emu
  2. Blackbuck
  3. Przewalski horse
  4. Asian small-clawed otter
  5. Siamang
  6. Scimitar Oryx
  7. Dromedary camel
  8. Echidna
Others that missed the cut

Eland, quokka, Samaritan tiger, white handed gibbon, addax and Barbary sheep.

Thought about this thread again today, because over the past two days I have visited both of my local zoos again. One, Colchester Zoo, is huge with a strong collection of mostly large mammals that next year will be celebrating its 60th anniversary. By contrast my other local zoo, called Call of the Wild Zoo, is a tiny place that only opened to the public in January of this year, so they both offer something almost completely opposite to each other.

First, I will redo my earlier Colchester Zoo pack - the Amur leopard is now here and several similar species to my original choices (a gibbon and a sea lion) have now also made an appearance. In total, there are 30 species in Planet Zoo found at Colchester. My new choices would be:

1. Bush dog
2. Colombian black spider monkey
3. Gelada
4. Greater kudu
5. Grey crowned crane
6. Linne's two-toed sloth
7. Red river hog
Exhibit. Burmese rock python

And now for the Call of the Wild Zoo pack - all these species have arrived within eight months of opening and so this could be considered the 'fledgling zoo/startup zoo pack'. Eight species in the game can be found there already. My choices for a new pack would be:

1. African crested porcupine
2. Bennett's wallaby
3. Mantled geureza
4. Ring-tailed coati
5. Serval
6. Six-banded armadillo
7. Victoria crowned pigeon OR Crested wood partridge (* both of these birds are also found at Colchester Zoo, but I figured I would give Colchester the crane instead)
Exhibit. Veiled chameleon

My local zoo is the Houston Zoo.

Woah, coming back, I got some of these. Also, visited the zoo about a month ago and, like @Cynogale bennettii, imma redo it. Some of these were added and others got a relative that can kinda fill that gap, so:

  1. Greater rhea - it would be a great addition to the SA pampas
  2. Black-and-gold howler monkey - more monkeys, loud noises that would be amazing to hear in-game
  3. White-cheeked gibbon - now that brachiation is possible, these would be a blast
  4. Fossa - our cat-like carnivore from Madagascar
  5. Nubian goat - yeah, it's kinda "basic", kinda "meh", but it'd be a good addition for petting zoos. This goat will make a fine addition to the collection
  6. Ankole cattle - looks like the amazing Texas longhorn, y'all. Wah-wah the Watusi. Take a chance and get up with this dance
  7. American black bear - I mean, c'mon. These are cool guys, more arboreal than the brown bears. Plus, the 2 at the zoo are brown in color
  8. Houston toad (E) - critically endangered, the Houston Zoo is (obviously) trying to save the Houston toad. So, can't have a Planet Zoo Houston pack without it
