When a friend is down, we do our best pick their spirits up

So RIP consoles, and a close friend who plays on Console is shattered about never getting Odyssey. So after a little chatting today I have convinced them to give PC Elite a go instead of calling it a day). Now I too am upset at Frontier for things lately, but I am still passionate about Elite, even when I posts more negative posts lately in frustration.

But thanks to Covid destroying many peoples working lives, my friend can hardly pay the bills let alone buy a new PC, so in chatting with my kids, and them agreeing to forgo their pocket money for a few months, they have agreed to help get my dear friend a PC so they can play Elite. We broke the news tonight and they are estatic over it and it brings some joy to me to know this person is going to continue to play Elite (And I don't have to try and play using a controller on the Playstation any more when playing with them, how do people fly well with controllers beats me).

So all in all, a little joy in the sadness of the console cancelation of this week.

Looking forward to seeing my friend kick off their new account later this coming week once their PC is ready to pick up. Can't say I am now a little excited for Elite and that's been a while since I had that feeling.

This should be better than a Playstation :)

A nice post on the forum?
Totally agree with HRDiagram, that the real point is not the PC but having freinds like you!

Your friend will as we PC players know experience more of what Elite and other space Sims can offer. From the 3rd party software like voice attack and EDMC, amazing HOTAS choices and VR, multi-moniter and utrawide.

It will once again breath new wonder into the experience!

I have known them for over 20 years and they have helped my family out in times of need when we done it tough, always pay it forward when you can. It makes the world a better place. I was more impressed with my kids took me less than 2 seconds to all say yes, I have 6 kids. They are my champions!
Must be some decent parenting in there somewhere....

Was just thinking about this...

If FDev decide to offer account migration for console players, I wonder if it'd be viable for FDev to hook-up with a PC manufacturer or, at least, a GFX card manufacturer and arrange for some kind of promotional discount on PC hardware?

Obviously, such a move would mean the hardware supplier losing a bit of profit but, in return, they'd be guaranteed a bunch of sales.

Dunno if hardware manufacturers would be interested in this in the current climate but it might be possible.

I am moderately concerned about the quality of this component.

With GPU prices already on a downward trend, I'm doubtful of the practical utility of such a plan. Regardless, I don't think it would be especially well received, as it could be interpreted as profiteering off the plight of customers who, rightly or wrongly, feel they've been blindsided or hung out to dry.

I dunno.

I mean, if a console player needs to buy/build a PC in order to continue playing ED, they're going have to buy stuff somewhere.
If FDev can play a part in arranging a discount on PC hardware, in order to ease the cost of moving platforms, I can't really see how that might be construed in a bad way.

1. Frontier freezes development on player's preferred platform.
2. Frontier sells player second license, for a game they already had, to enable play on a less preferred platform.
3. Frontier partners with hardware manufacturer/system integrator to sell more stuff to said player to get acceptable performance of game on less preferred platform.

I'm having difficulty seeing how this isn't going to sound scummy.
