When is the Issue Tracker going to be looked at?

I've created 4 issues today for the Alpha. One of them I later found out was a duplicate, but it wasn't suggested to me when I was creating a thread.

I have another two to make, but I can't because the issue tracker is now broken! You try and submit an issue, click Next Step once you've spent ages filling out details. And nothing happens.

OK I have worked it out why I couldn't create an issue. It's because there is a minimum character limit of 30 characters for both the Description, but also the Reproduction Steps section.

There is no indication on screen there is a limit for the Reproduction Steps, so people just think it's broken and give up. This also applies to adding invalid characters to the Reproduction Steps section.

Found another bug with the issue tracker.

Enter a title for your issue and go to the next screen where it checks for similar issues. If you then edit your title on that screen (the similar issues update), when you go through to the next screen the 'your hardware' section is missing.

If you try to submit the issue, the summary screen is blank.

But bizarrely, it warns you of the 30 char minimum if you go in to someone else's report to confirm it and use those fields on the confirmation form to comment.

I have just started using it since yesterday after being away from the game since before it was introduced, and having worked in development and seen/used several similar tools, I can't imagine how this works in a production environment. And as you point out in the OP it is fairly obvious it is not being used much, whether because it is broken, or by design. Or both.

So, I just "confirmed" (get it?) that you can actually confirm your own issue (or anyone else's issue) as many times as you like. It also seems you don't need to complete the reproduction steps for a confirmation, just the description (as long as you don't accidentally type in the reproduction text box).

Great system - so for you keeners out there you can confirm your own bugs ten times with the exact same c&p text for the description [Working as intended, shurely? eds.]

I didn't put in ten to see, as I don't want to end up banned for breaking their already broken issue tracker, just a couple on one of mine to see if it would allow it, and it seemed to. I assume once you get it to ten it would change over, feel free to experiment if you want to risk it. ;-)

I am pretty sure I have confirmed other issues and pushed them over the top as the 10th without having to have reproduction steps, and have seen many issues at the voting stage with 10 (or more) similar confirmations almost none of which have reproduction steps. So am assuming they are not needed (or are also broken perhaps).

Yeah that's been like it from the start. I've always gone from the standpoint that even if it gets automatically confirmed (which doesn't always happen when you reach 10), then it still has to be checked by a person and they can easily see the IDs are the same.

But, there's nothing to stop you using alt accounts. Each has a unique email address.

I do wonder whether there's a set time once or twice a day when a query is run to check for issues with 10 or more confirmations and confirm them. I've never been able to work it out myself.

Thanks for contacting frontier. We take your calls very seriously, if u would like to speak with a representative press two. If you know your parties extension press pound now. If u would like to listen to frequently asked questions stay on the line.
If you have any have anymore questions cycle your complaint by turning off your brain, wait five minutes then ask again!

Reading the patch notes its apparent that the majority of reported bugs have not been addressed in this update thats taken 3 years of production which in turn confirms the process(issue tracker) is not fit for purpose.

3 years ago frontier introduced a BGS breaking bug..... If you do BGS be fully aware that this exploit still exists and based on the Odyssey patch notes fdev doesnt care diddly squat - https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/2672

Aha I been waiting for this thread to pop up again somewhere. Just to note that Dav said in the recent LS that hes aware of the Issue Tracker Bug Report but cant reply to it or something, but he knows the Issue Tracker has been reported as a bug :)

I know it has too, because I've kept at it and got some of the fixes to it pushed over the course of the Alpha (notice the reproduction steps, and vote numbers are now working).

But it still has been 6 months since Arf said it needed work.

Odyssey is not released, and so there is an option to choose that as the version of Elite Dangerous. The consoles are still in the dropdown list as a platform choice for some reason.
When you are searching issues, or creating an issue and checking to see if it's a duplicate, there is nothing to distinguish between Horizons and Odyssey issues. They are now two separate clients and so the issues should be marked as such.

hahahaha so they're saying the bug tracker is bugged? I guess that's slightly better than admitting that they were just ignoring the whole thing completely.

I have to admit after the launch of Odyssey (without beta directly after the Alpha), the massive problems players are experiencing and now being pointed to this thread, I'm totally dishearten and demoralized. 😪

I really wished our contributions would have impact, as they had before this tracker was installed.

It's sad to lose faith but it really feels like the Alpha was just designed to drum up support and hype so that those who didn't preorder would get worked up.. alas with the issue tracker being absolutely FLOODED for years with so many bugs that never get fixed. They must've known this release would be a mess and that Alpha wasn't really for fixing. Coz they didn't listen.

Day 1 the issue with the inverted item wheel was brought up... still not fixed!!!! It's a joke.

Hahaha what??? The old system was just as bad, the entire reason they installed the tracker was so they wouldn't have to deal with the complaints on the forum. I've personally submitted a lot of big reports under the old system and not a single one was fixed, even after multiple acknowledgements from moderators and such.

Depends how you did it. And yes it got worse back then, but it was not always the case.

Sad to say, it's pretty evident that the issue tracker is a hastily thrown together, never fixed ramshackle of a spam filter. Fdev consider it working as intended because they can keep deleting thousands of submissions without bothering to look at them.
