Steam tries to "help" you by scheduling your updates. Check on that. Mine was scheduled for 4pm yesterday.

You can tell it to pound sand and do it now, which I did.

And here’s the super-shocker - turns out not everything from the beta stayed in the beta: my keybinds carried over, saving me having to set them up again.

I believe you can also set some games to high priority (I believe this means it will update as soon as an update is ready and not schedule it).

I have ED set on high priority and never had issues with it being scheduled (it downloaded yesterday as soon as I started Steam).

Mine didn't - I had to remap them. I had even backed up the .binds files but when I took a look at them the bindings I was using during the beta weren't in there. I've no idea what happened.

For me, the game started downloading via Steam at around 6-30ish yesterday, although I couldn’t get in until after midnight. You could try this to force the download OP – it has worked for me in the past:
